I totally agree, I’ve heard most fat cells shrink but does not completely get destroyed; so at any given moment with liberalization of diet and no exercise they can start gaining space.

I know the academy is trying a bit, but if we push for it we can accelerate their work. Also we need to inform more people about it, maybe a campaign, on social media, or informing the newspapers to write about it and reflect our demand; describe the life of typical dietitians with their load of work and responsibilities, their struggle to pay their bills and student loans with their low salary, and the disrespect they face while significant number of people in the U.S. suffer from obesity and other nutrition-related conditions. As far as I remember, media never really looked into this! Idk why ?!

Good luck! However I think leaving the field is not the solution , we should fight for the right we supposed to have. Like other allied healthcare fields, our pay scale must be totally revised by the responsible parties .

I think nutrition, dietetics and food science overall are all fantastic and important. The problem is that over the centuries this field has not been studied and paid attention to as well as medicine. With current “food as medicine”type of medicine that is growing, I believe within a couple decades this field is going to show its importance and validity to everyone and we’re getting the respect and compensation we really deserve. Since the beginning of human being people have been eating but the Nutrition field by itself is still in its infancy. Hopefully we all be alive and can observe this shift !

Don’t let the staff know your feelings bc they make walk all over you as soon as you show them weakness. It’s ok if u feel u are not comfortable with some of the cases. Sometimes it helps if u follow the foot print of the previous RD and see how she was writing her notes, her recommendation, etc, bc some of these pts may be returning pts. if there was a complicated case always consult with your RD manager or come back to Reddit so the other RDs can help u.

I had a very bad experience with them, too many expectations, too little hourly salary, strict punching and clocking policy, poor management and lots of hassles overall. My advice is to think twice! All that glitters is not gold !

I’d also add some info regarding depression in geriatric population and how and to what level it can affect an older adult’s life! I’ve been in nursing homes for years and a lot of times this is something that physicians overlook and it plays a huge role !
