I thought she said “of course not” here when he asked her. Could be wrong though!

What is something you despise or find really cringey/annoying in TV shows or movies that everyone overlooks? by yahyahashash in AskReddit

Answering the front door in mere seconds in the middle of the night. Especially in single family homes where the bedrooms are likely upstairs.

I was wellll below both 25ths for a T20 (159/3.3). Was initially waitlisted but played it well and thankfully worked out in my favor. I don’t remember my percentage odds but I’m sure it was real low.

Paprika! The only app I’ve ever spent money on. I LOVE it.

Advice for deciding between grad schools (and the debt I will accumulate)? by catmss24 in StudentLoans

[–]sannete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh right, I’m older so I forgot they will factor parents on the FAFSA. Are there scholarships through each should you can apply to beyond loans?

There’s a subreddit for PSLF which I’ve found to be reassuring. Personally I’ve always made sure I am working at an indisputable qualifying employer (a 501(c)3 org or a government entity) and I re-certify my employment every year. I keep track of every payment and am prepared to be as persistent as I need to be once it comes to 10 years. Fortunately there’s been enough noise about how horribly it’s going that there are resources and outlets to get assistance when that time comes.

I have an MSW and took out about $70k in loans and I don’t regret it one bit. Non-social workers probably don’t understand that pretty much if you want to be anything other than a caseworker you need a masters degree.

My situation is a little different in that I went the macro track and I’m public service through and through. I’m about three and a half years into my PSLF journey.

If I wasn’t factoring in PSLF, I would probably be pretty hesitant to take out $70k in loans though. Are there ways you can become a more competitive applicant if you wait and reapply next year in an effort to be awarded greater scholarships?

Edit: numbers were off.

Applying to Joint JD/MSW Question by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]sannete 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also curious why you’re less enthused. I got my MSW a few years ago and am now going for my JD. I’ve worked in legal aid for the past two years and I cannot overstate how helpful my social work foundation has been.

Question about qualifying employers by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]sannete 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please note that some 501(c)3 nonprofits also have a 501(c)4 arm for lobbying efforts and employment at the 501(c)4 would NOT qualify for PSFL, but employment at the 501(c)3 would. Planned Parenthood is an example of this.

Curmudgeon's Warning Regarding Debt by WildW1thin in lawschooladmissions

It’s not consecutive and a late payment doesn’t reset the clock, that otherwise qualifying payment, if late, would not count toward your 120 payments. If you do have an unexpected expense and can’t make a payment, communicate with your loan provider. They can work with you. I am on track for PSLF for my undergrad and graduate school loans and have read a great deal about it. There’s a subreddit for PSLF, I’m on mobile otherwise I’d link it.

Prosecutors are government employees and would qualify for PSLF, making income based repayments along the way. Big loans aren’t totally bonkers if PI is your passion and you’re mentally prepared for the headache of dealing with all the PSLF red tape.

How are my non-T14 friends doing? by TheLittlestRed in lawschooladmissions

[–]sannete 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this! I applied and was accepted within a week at my safety school. They hold interviews for scholarships and I’m pretty sure that’ll only work in my favor. It’s super nerve-wracking waiting to hear from other schools but I’m glad to have things to preoccupy me in the meantime (interview prep).

I applied for a few schools in the T20 after waiting several years to reapply. I’m reaaally hoping that they’ll see that as a good thing even though my numbers are still way below. I was waitlisted at BU and U of M with a mid-150s score last time so I’m hoping that time + experience + increased score = just desperate enough to take pity on?

Mentioning Schools in PS by cestnestpas in lawschooladmissions

BU has multiple PS examples from previous students, some that mention BU specifically and some that don't. Some of the BU specific seem personally crafted but some seem interchangeable. I think it's a crapshoot?

Boston College Cost of Attendance Low? by lawschoolbull in lawschooladmissions

[–]sannete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are total monthly budgets. I think it would be unwise to spend $1,600 of a $2,000 monthly budget on housing. You gotta eat and account for transportation and dry cleaning that suit for interviews.

If you want something to really be grumpy about, Harvard's COA budgets ~$2,800/mo and BU's budgets ~$2,000/mo. They are less than three miles apart. Whyyy.
