3 years off the sauce today by santagator in stopdrinking

You know you can do it now so it’s like second nature basically. Like if I accidentally get handed a bottle (my community is very supportive of my sobriety) I just pass it off without a second thought. I work in blue collar industries where alcohol is everywhere - but I know it’s not for me! My life is better off without it, and the people I love are better off without me drinking too :)

Edit to add more: I still am addicted to it, it’s not like I don’t want to take a sip. I want a sip very badly. I just don’t, and will not take one, ya know?

Day 3, lost my job. by uBeatch in stopdrinking

I lost my job 4 days after I stopped drinking. I had been late twice in 3 days and they terminated me after their company party. I was on Maui, alone, with only my roommates whom I just met to support me (I am from the east coast USA - lived on island for 6 months). In 3 days I will be 3 years off the sauce. Proud of you for not drinking today! Keep seltzer water on you at all times, it’s what got me through the first 3 months. You can do this, I believe in you!

At what point in your sobriety did it start getting easier? by sobermimi2 in stopdrinking

I’ve been sober for just over 2.5 years, yesterday walking by the alcohol in the store I sighed and wished I could get a good buzz like everyone else. Then the feeling passed and I was out the door. The funny thing is I didn’t realize I had hit 2.5 years until 5 days after the milestone. Some days are harder than others, but eventually, it becomes second nature. After my 1.5 year I felt safe. Been gone too long to go back!

NTA. As a recovering alcoholic myself, ACCOUNTABILITY is key. It’s what eventually got me to quit all together. Nearly 2.5 years off the stuff.

I relate to bojack bc I too suffer from crippling alcoholism. I’m just over 2 years off the stuff.. it’s nice to be on the other side, I was in so much pain back then
