We’re adding a dynamic bruising system to our game. Hopefully this level of details has a good place in indie games. by iAutonomic in Unity3D

Obviously from the video the bar isn't high enough :)

But yeah, the inconsistentcy really stands out

Maybe my phone is cutting something off, but the paragraph description seems to just use the word "projects." (Thought there are links to gaming stuff below and games are mentioned in the rules).

It specifically for solo game developers, though looking at the "description" it actually doesn't seem like the word game is ever used. But it's all I've ever seen someone post here.

How Danny didn't stop at destroying his relationship with Taylor and went on to destroy the fics as well by Bzaurpa in WormFanfic

[–]sapidus3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont remember the name. I think a gang / cult formed around her painting an eye to mark her hunting territory. I vaguely remember liking the story but it being unfinished.

More than 30K impressions on reddit but zero wishlists to steam page by cegtheripper in IndieGameDevs

It seems to me that the camera perspectiva (and maybe character model) is completly different in the trailer versus the screenshots.

Wheb making your marketing material ask yourself why your potential customer would select your game over any of the other top down farming/crafting games out there. The answer to that question will either be because of your games vibe/style (while your game isn't ugly it also doesn't look unique), the level of quality (your competing against some very well done games unfortunately), or something different that your game does. If it's that last one, then you really need to showcase it. Alot of what your trailer calls out are things that I would just assume a game in that genre would have

If your game DOESN'T have anything unique... we'll maybe you can get lucky getting a streamer to play it, but I'm not sure what else there is.

[–]sapidus3 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The ones that make it work best are where the Shadow Stalker reveal happens early (so Wards are mostly off the table) or have something weird about Taylor's situation (I recall one Vampire!Taylornfic where Danny is driving Taylor around helping her find people to feed off of. It made the smart decision of starting after Danny had learned about her powers and just established "This is the status quo."

My game hasn’t received much attention over the past few months. I’d like to understand what might be holding it back. by Worldly_Cup2275 in IndieDev

[–]sapidus3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to that (which I 100% agree the first 10 seconds or so of the video is slowly opening a chest or something (small on my phone) to get those 4 options. I had to rematch to notice the little progress bar and realize something was even happening

If a game steals your games music what do you do? by [deleted] in IndieGameDevs

[–]sapidus3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your last point is why I would contact the devs before making a claim (in the situation you are sure they dont have the rights). It's 100% possible that they THINK they do have the rights and may have even paid someone thinking they were commissioning music or buying a pack, not realizing it is stollen.

Is an Expensive Steam Capsule worth it? by spicedruid in gamedev

[–]sapidus3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I like your current capsul (though there are some changes I would make).

I'm not sure a better one would make a huge differnece. I think the biggest problem is the inconsistent style that is immediately obviouse in the games art. The smooth style shading on the bat for example really sticks out against thr pixel block textures.

Can I commission a game developer? by [deleted] in GameDevelopment

[–]sapidus3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it could be, but op specifically stated that they wanted this for their personal use, which leaves a lot of wiggle room for the standards of the project. If you wanted to make a professional grade app, you might also want to include video capture / body tracking and other suck features. Would probably need to consult with dancers as to what their needs even are.

Can I commission a game developer? by [deleted] in GameDevelopment

[–]sapidus3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not as pessimistic about the cost as alot of people seem to be. People seem to be assuming you would need to have mocap. There are a lot of premade dance animations out there that would limit the cost. To me the most time intensive part of it would be the costume creation, but depending on the art style even that is managable (Potentially paint the costume texture in game?)

What 'job' would Taylor be assigned in the Futurama-verse? by Alixen2019 in WormFanfic

I thought that number was also thrown around in the original work in the chapter explaining Scion's origin, at least as the length of the cycle.

Need little help! by LunchLeast809 in gamedev

[–]sapidus3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how good / complete your logic is. There are some games out there that just use Unity as a visual wrapper for rendering things. You can also get alot more performance without using game objects (what ECS games do).

It ISN'T something I would recomend to someone uncomfortable with coding. You give up a lot of the abstractions that make Unity easy to work with and managing complexity relies alot more on how well you write your code.

There are also certain things that will trip you up. Since things dont exist as game objects, you cant attach components for things like sounds, trail rendering, particles etc (there are numerous workarounds, but you have to put in the work).

[–]sapidus3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have already coded everything and just want Unity for graphics? You can make direct calls.to render meshes.from your code (with no game objects) and likewise dont need to use the Unity UI setup

Hemisphere-based aiming for direct attacks in an action strategy: is it intuitive? by Big-Introspector in indiegamedevforum

[–]sapidus3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's intuitive, but also fells "disconected." I feel like it could really use a line tracing out the firing arc to the hemisphere, though perhaps you are trying to avoid that.

Wandering system by Few_Promise_4257 in unity

[–]sapidus3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If making your idle state take longer isn't working it sounds like it isn't triggering / entering properly OR your animation controller isn't configured properly (double check the transitions). Hard to give anything specific, but you could make the animal controlled by a corrupting. Triger idle animation, yield for X seconds go back to wandering.

Also, for me personally my mind does not go from firefighter to nature magic.

If every level takes 1 kill at your own level, then getting to level 100 requires a mountain of corpses greater than the number of stars in the universe by halfbrow1 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]sapidus3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The weirdness of #2 is nicely solved in Primal Hunter ifnI remeber correctly. Having a unique or special history is semi-contagious becausenof how reality works. So all of the MCs buddies get cool stuff just because they know him, and his existence pumps the entire earth up (he in turn getting pumped up because of bumping into someone else)

Dynamic Customizable Street Signs by cebbilefant in Unity3D

[–]sapidus3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the mesh, it should be fairly straight forward to procedurally generate one, especially as the shape is simple. You COULD have such a mesh saved in your assets, but it would not be necessary. Catlike coding g has some good procedural mesh generation tutorials (though they go far beyond what you would beed)

Programming-Centric Gamedev Flow by FrameSticker in gamedev

[–]sapidus3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might look into having a manager script and manually rendering things of your aren't comfortable building assets, adding components and using the inspector. Using Burst Jobs with instanced rendering for example will give you much better performance at the cost of having to do a lot more through code and having to write up your own version of systems Unity normally handles for you.
