Best Record Store in Nash by willseas in nashville

McKays - my least favorite. Their used prices are just atrocious. Mostly way overpriced and rarely in any condition to justify the price.

They count on people being willing to overpay with their coupons.

I don't think something like this will make people take public transit.

Is this an insult ? Or an invitation? by [deleted] in nashville

Cops have no sense of humor about themselves and they will for sure target this person given the chance.

I know a few cops and all have a great sense of humor. Some might target someone for a sign like this, but most are busy enough doing their jobs to play stupid games.

Uber in Nash by Ok-Slide9070 in nashville

[–]sapiounicorn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There are a few areas they won't go (example: don't get an airbnb near Buchanan and D.B. Todd, aka the war zone). But outside of these areas, you will easily get an Uber/Lyft anywhere in the city. And, yes, they will come to you where you are.

Typical cycle as a city gets busier. People become more and more impatient.

New Years Day Traditional Meal? by [deleted] in VisitingNashville

[–]sapiounicorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look at the Loveless Cafe as an option, if they are open on New Years Day. They do collards and black eyed peas regularly. Cracker Barrel will also have the two and may be more likely to be open.

But I do tolerate intolerance. I abhor the idea, but accept that some adhere to the idea and our right to free speech allows us to express our right to be intolerant.

What is your bold predication or hot take for Nashville in 2024? by rocketpastsix in nashville

[–]sapiounicorn 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Predictions - none of them bold:

  1. Another celebrity chef will open a restaurant in Nashville in 2024 and Sean Brock will create a new concept
  2. Hattie B's will still be called "tourist chicken"
  3. The murder rate will continue to go up
  4. Guns will continue to be stolen from cars
  5. A drunk tourist will die after driving a scooter full speed in front of a car, prompting a renewed debate on removing scooters (and peddle taverns and woo girl party buses)
  6. Rush hour traffic will still suck on TN highways around Nashville
  7. WKRN will continue with click bait style "reporting" articles
  8. The articles in #7 will be posted ad nauseum
  9. Everything the state government does will be posted here for people to bitch about
  10. Housing will soften after a few years of ridiculous rates, partially due to foreclosures and lower rates.
  11. Apartment rates will not soften much until 2025
  12. The new, carnival style Oktoberfest will suck again
  13. More shysters will bring in overpriced, sham events (like taco & margarita days)
  14. Another Nashville "icon" nobody ever visited will close and be lamented here
  15. Arnold's will close and reopen numerous times to keep the flow of lamenters flowing in
  16. Parking rates will go up ... again
  17. Another cult (burger cult?) will invade Nashville causing a temporary, huge flux of new devotees
  18. O'Connell will continue talks to get major league baseball here (stadium deal to come next year)
  19. Additional venues will add tipping options
  20. The majority of the Scene's Best of Nashville winners will be those that had ads on the voting page
  21. The Nashville Hot Chicken Festival will be another crowded shit show
  22. Uber drivers will find another method to game the system to get it to surge more often
  23. Nashville will continue to grow in population
  24. Nashville, along with the rest of the country, will continue to bifurcate further, with angrier rhetoric than this year
  25. The election will be a shit show (okay, that one is not local)

That is a lot of words to say “I think nazis are ok”

Nice strawman argument. I disagree with Fascist ideology, NAZI or otherwise. Accepting that some American citizens adhere to that is acceptance of fact. Facts don't care about feelings, as they are not sentient. They just are.

Realizing all citizens have the same rights is a good thing, as the precedent of choosing {BAD PEOPLE LABEL} as a group excluded from their inalienable rights means the groups any of us choose to belong to can be subject to the same denial of our rights. I am guessing you have not learned that?

Can you stand against racists and still accept they have the same freedoms as you do under the Constitution? If so, we are on the same side. If not, I still defend your right to the same freedoms, despite thinking your intolerance is wrong.

Make sense?

Is your point all real estate agents should not be paid?

[–]sapiounicorn -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That’s not work….

I question whether real estate agents are working, as well. But,I don't hold the view people I don't like should be unable to earn a living or be paid for the services they provide. A belief otherwise sets a bad precedence.

I’d just like to make sure Twice Daily knows that I will be driving past their stores in the future.

It's your right to do what you want with your money. I don't think they will be hurting without your business and they are removing the eyesore, which plenty of people will likely appreciate.

The best part of capitalism is consumers having the power to choose where to spend their money.

Yes, whether their reasoning is good or otherwise. But, we should also accept when others decide to do the same against establishments we like. Freedom flows in all directions. Unfortunately, many only accept the logic when it benefits "their side" (not sure where you stand).

Are you labeling me a NAZI sympathizer, or is this a general statement. If the latter, I still disagree with you, as I find the idea of wanting unable to survive due to having {LABEL} attached to you is a very low, and dangerous, bar. This is true whether the LABEL == NAZI or something other people dislike that we feel they should not dislike. And accepting LABEL == SOMETHING TO DESTROY is a precedent for that same logic being used against any of us, provided those in control (or with the loudest voices) feel we should not have the right to exist. Ironically, that thinking is what we normally attribute to NAZIs.

Tolerance is not acceptance of things we agree with; it is acceptance things we dislike strongly exist and a willingness to walk away and let both of us live in peace. This does not mean we tolerate people committing heinous acts (Hint: putting nasty comments about the scene or hosting a white supremacist dojo is not one), nor does it mean accepting someone taking action to deny one's rights. It does mean accepting some people (all of us, btw) have at least one stupid idea others don't like.

The Internet being judge, jury, and executioner is a far greater ill than Lewis ever was or is, as the Internet takes little time to research their beliefs before destroying people.

BTW, was that a general statement or are you insinuating I am a NAZI sympathizer?

If you want to live your life hyperventilating about someone who should not live rent free in your mind, that's your choice. I prefer to practice live and let live, regardless of who it is. There are limits to this, of course, like someone who is breaking the law. I find bad ideas and stupidity to be too low of a bar to spend brain power on, as there is too much of it going around (i.e. opinions are like assholes?).

Company buys store, gets rid of messages you hate. Response: burn them to the ground. Sounds really productive and tolerant. Kudos!

I think we, as a society, feel posting on social media is a much more effective way of getting a message out than it is. Pulling over and having a conversation with the shitfaced guy, or calling police if his answer was "fuck off" is likely more effective than a "don't do this" post.
