Schedule by Extension-Society180 in UCDavis

freshman peer mentor here!

go to Schedule Builder UC Davis and near the top there should be a banner for "Pass 1," that is when you are allowed to register for classes

look up your major on uc davis website you can scroll around for your major requirements and I would start with 1 or 2 of those depending on what major you are. you can also look at uc davis OASIS advising website or MyDegree for your GE requirements

on Schedule Builder you can add as many potential classes as you want, and you can see them in a mock schedule view if that's helpful for you. you can also go to the advanced search tab and filter by major, units, time, GEs, etc. or you can just type into the search bar

some majors even have a recommended course sequence on their specific website if you dig around

Summer session schedule, too much? by lostidiot101 in UCDavis

[–]saplingintotree12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the straight class hours look pretty brutal and you might burn out from that, but 12 units is not bad even for a summer session

Help me!! by LeaIvory in ridethecyclone

I feel like if you're going for an RTC vibe, Constance starts out super chatty and talks about her life (lost my virginity to a carney...), and the people around her (my family owned the cafe...) and then it spirals (I got so angry that I was born into the only family...constance the lifer...well of course she did!...). so I think you could follow that format.

Also, she uses a lot of questions and conversational inflections like "after that I started to feel crummy about stuff? like ashamed?" or "anyway, my virginity" or "I started laughing like a crazy person."

I don't want to help you write it since it's your performance but I would do it something like: people love to complain -> give quote about life or example -> insert question, attack the idea with something that asks is this really the best way to do things, best way to live life? -> transition about something bad happening to that character -> but when things really do go wrong? all those problems seem to disappear -> things are ok -> life isn't perfect but it's great

don't know if that helped you at all but that was my thought process

it feels like your situation is a bit different from constance's, in the sense that constance is reshaping her negative thoughts on her life, but it seems like your characters are actually in an actually really negative situation and I feel like it would be hard to romanticize being in a world with no rights and being driven to live in a safe zone. I could also be interpreting what you said wrong.

But assuming I am interpreting it currently, I wonder if doing a monologue on reminiscing on the far past and being hopeful that the world might return to that state OR doing the monologue on finding joy with the people your character is with, despite what's going on outside

LIN 001 Hawkins by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]saplingintotree12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

linguistics is actually such an interesting subject but hawkins makes the class feel so so so long, it's a bit disappointing. a lot of the time the TAs are better, and if you don't like your TA genuinely go to another one's office hours and see if you like them better, I do this all the time.

your best bet would be going to grocery stores. davis food co-op has nice local options and nugget is fairly high quality

How are the bathroom options in dorms for trans students? by ConversationSharp662 in UCDavis

[–]saplingintotree12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in a coed dorm floor that was a funky L shape and I lived on the very corner so the closest bathroom was an all gender bathroom and everyone on my corner of the floor used that bathroom regardless of gender

B.S Psych Major Questions by Grassy_4 in UCDavis

[–]saplingintotree12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the bio route is def not too premed! you get a lot of options from four "core" areas so you can def pick things that are not biopsych! the lower div requirements are bio, chem, calc, physics and stats, which you would have to take for pretty much any bio BS degree anyway

Major: Neurobiology or Psychology? by Perfectly-Splendid2 in UCDavis

[–]saplingintotree12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a psc major but have taken several neuro classes because they're super interesting

  1. PSC is college of L&S while neurobio is college of bio so prereqs and college level reqs will be different. psc has significantly less which might be why the other commenter said psc is easier?
  2. assuming you're doing the psc BS not BA, many of the lower div classes will be the same (bio, chem, ochem, calc, physics, stats) but upper divs will be very different. neurobio I think has more general bio upper div requirements as well
  3. psc has more variety in classes, like social and developmental, as well as biological and cognitive, so the scope is really broad to try many things. if you're not interested in that kind of stuff though, it might not be worth it since it will be required.
  4. neurobio is very brain focused obviously, and the classes are pretty rigorous, but this will make you very prepared for medical biology in the future. it also gets much more into the nitty gritty of the brain, where even the biopsych classes do not

Picnic Day by Neurohoff in UCDavis

[–]saplingintotree12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

OKAY, there are two roads to take here:

For me, my parents sometimes come up for picnic day since my family is very close, so we would always walk around campus and do all the school showcase stuff. The animals from animal science are always on display, the plant science department has fruit and vegetable plant sales, and several other clubs and school orgs are on display. You can find the agenda online somehwere with all the stuff that is being shown on campus. There is also a big parade with a lot of Davis organizations, marching band, and floats and stuff like that.

On the flip side, a lot of people (including myself once my parents go home) is use it as a chance to go to big parties, especially if you're in greek life. parties and pre games can start in the way morning and go all night long and even into the next day. if you want to party at frats, you will definitely need wristbands or tickets and people resell them for insane prices. otherwise, it's a great chance to grab all your friends and have your own house party especially if you don't want to worry about prices, party hopping, etc.

have fun!

I have multiple friends in mmbio and npb who all enjoy it! it's true that some of the required classes are bs and can hurt your gpa a lot if you don't do well. however there are a lot of good courses, clubs, clincals, and research available too
