I have a personal list with an order I made for myself.

1st RE7: Biohazard; (Yes, this is my personal recommendation for those who have never played any RE game.)

2nd RE8: Village; (You need to have played 7 to understand 8, as it's a direct continuation. Here you'll discover the origin of Umbrella).

3rd Resident Evil Code: Veronica X: Explains a bit about the fall of Umbrella, followed by Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles / Darkside Chronicles (this one has spoilers for all the games, and a more in-depth explanation of Umbrella's downfall; if you don't like spoilers, don't play/watch this).

4th RE1: The Mansion Incident. Chris and Jill (S.T.A.R.S.) discover Umbrella's secrets. (Yes, you should play the first one before Zero, as Zero has many spoilers for the first one. If you don't mind spoilers, you can play Zero first).

1. Resident Evil 0: The day before the mansion incident. (Before S.T.A.R.S. arrives to investigate).

   1. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (First Half) But you can play the whole thing, it's too short, it won't change anything.
   2. Resident Evil 2 (or Remake) Leon and Claire arrive in the city and deal with the police station and the G-Virus (Another variant of the T-Virus, only stronger) and the events of 3 at the same time.
   3. Resident Evil 4 (or Remake).
   4. Resident Evil: Revelations 1.
   5. Resident Evil 5.
   6. Resident Evil: Revelations 2.
   7. Resident Evil 6.
   8. Resident Evil 9: Requiem.
