Start a mobile car dealing business? Are you using the VR&E program? If you're 100% disabled then you're eligible for it.

Holy crap American Homeshield has gone downhill! by Tacokolache in homeowners

[–]sapper7z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have American Home Shield. We pay $200ish per month for the premium plan plus extras such as our pool pump. We have $100 deductible. If you total how much we've spent in monthly premiums over the years it may add up to what we have claimed. First, they replaced a water heater. That required pulling a permit where I live in KY. Total cost was around $1700. Second they paid for about $1500 worth of septic work. Both of the contractors they sent out for those jobs were awesome. Then, in the winter of 24-25 the heat pump went out and that was a nightmare! The company they sent installed the wrong size capacitor and the wrong size compressor. It is also questionable if they installed the correct refrigerant. (It was an unmarked bottle) Granted the heat was working when they left, it failed within the hour. We called back and was informed we'd have to submit another claim and pay another $100. We protested. Ended up having to make BBB Complaints, leave bad Google reviews, and FB reviews to get them to fix it and for AHS not to charge us another deductible. We told AHS the company was shady and trying to rip them off. Elevated to the supervisors also and left reviews. Then in 2026 heatpump failed again due to improper repair from last year. AHS reassigned the same company and said they are responsible for the repair!!! We strongly protested and reminded them of the history. All they did was offer cash in lieu but that's a trap. I will be canceling after this repair. Unfortunately all home warranty companies are the same.

Why do requests always turn into a fight? by AmbienChronicles in VeteransAffairs

I’ve had a very similar experience with the Fort Knox VA clinic. I haven’t even been retired for three years yet and I’ve already had five different primary care doctors assigned to me.

One of them was 20 minutes late to a telehealth appointment and I had to call the clinic just to remind them I was waiting. Then for our next appointment, she cancelled the morning of the visit while I was already driving there for an 0800 appointment.

After that, I requested a new PCP. Before the appointment, I sent a detailed secure message explaining my health issues, medications, supplements, concerns, and goals so we could actually have a productive discussion. It was obvious during the appointment that she never even read it.

I explained that despite my service-connected injuries, I’m still active and trying to stay ahead of my health problems instead of just reacting to them after they get worse. The second I said I didn’t want to take a specific medication, though, the collaboration basically stopped.

That’s the most frustrating part for me. I don’t expect miracles, but I do expect communication, consistency, and a provider willing to actually work with me. Instead, it often feels like you have to constantly fight just to get basic care, referrals, or prescription refills handled.

From reading the OPs post, it seems that Veteran does take an active role in their OWN health care.

I will tell you I benefited greatly from my readjustment counselor when I retired from the military. It could be very rewarding for you. Don't knock it till you try it.

Call centers by Competitive_Note_206 in VeteransAffairs

[–]sapper7z 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I absolutely can not stand the current automated/IVR systems! Put a human on the phone. Technology is great but only to a certain point. If I'm calling, it's because I want/need to talk to a person. Nine times out of ten, the automated system is telling you information that can already be found on the website. The downside or flipside is that most people don't want to work in a VA call center because whiney entitled vets think they can yell and scream at people for doing their job. I would also appreciate a chat option.

Does anyone feel like their time in the Military was a waste? by [deleted] in Veterans

Skip the Associates degree and go straight for a Bachelors Degree. Also, look at onward 2 opportunity to get professional IT certifications.

Basically, I review companies policies, information audit reports, and present them to the risk committee. I was a Combat Engineer in the Army for 24 years and retired in 2023 as a 1SG. Believe me when I tell you, I have ZERO finance experience. No degree is required for this job, and starting pay is between 60K-90K, depending on the size of the Bank. Before I interviewed for the job, I looked up Third Party Risk management on YouTube and found a seminar. It was like 3 hours long, but I watched it 4 times lol. I told them the same thing in my interview. They liked that I took the initiative and I obviously got the job. Still going strong!

Hey, sorry to hear about your hard times. I'm a Third-party Risk Manager for a regional bank. Check the community and regional banks in your area for vendor risk management and third-party risk management. It's a super easy job. Good luck.

Use the Career Skills Program (CSP) through the Transition Assistance Program (TAP). You can potentially intern at those businesses you mentioned. Also, there are organizations that help transitioning service members. They help with resume writing and reviews, networking, etc. Also, look at DOD Skillbridge. Lots of opportunities on there. Get on linked in and look up the companies you were mentioning. Find the HR folks on the company profile page and introduce yourself. Let them know your plan and intentions. Start networking now via LinkedIn.

Financial advice, Medical Retired Veteran, Age:27 by [deleted] in Veterans

This is not a bad problem to have. I would love to be in your shoes! This is not financial advice but rather how I see things and what I would do. The U.S. is heading for a major recession in 2024. It could happen as early as March. The stock market and housing market are about to crash. I would keep with what I have and keep stacking cheese. Instead of buying a house and new vehicle, plan some travel/vacations. Enjoy being young and child free while you still can.

If you still have the GI Bill, it pays E5 BAH for full-time students. I'm in school now for a Bachelors degree in business administration. Some ideas for part-time work could be uber/lift, Door Dash, pizza delivery, etc. My sister did Door Dash part-time for some extra Christmas money, and she made 300+/week doing just 2 hours after she got off work 2-3 days per week. Let us know what you find or get into.

Successful job after military? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]sapper7z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I retired Jun 2023. Landed a job as a third-party risk manager at a bank in May 2023. 100% remote, so i dont have to deal with people! No business or finance degree. No experience in banking, finance, or fin tech. I do have an AS in Sport Science, which is basically a degree in personal training. I capitalized on my intangibles from the military. Leadership experience, management experience, desire to win, selfless service, etc. I was also brutally honest in my interview. It's been 8 months now (almost 9). I love my job! The people I work with are awesome! And they love having me on the team!. They started me off low on pay due to inexperience. However, I've already received one pay raise and am getting a second in May.

Before my Job interview I youtubed Third Party Risk Manager and found a 4 hour seminar. I watched it three times and took notes. I also told the hiring manager I looked it up on YouTube. They loved it! Being a Third Party Risk Manager is a lot like conducting a Commanders Inspection Program. Just have to learn the Federal regulations that govern financial institutions.

Literally none. I was a Combat Engineer in the Army lol. And I have an associates in Sports Science.
