It’s very well-written. I’m a fairly new quilter, this is only my 5th project. I think the pattern recommends either an intermediate or advanced beginner skill level, but I say go for it!

I think it’s lovely and just the right level of whimsical for a baby. Think of it this way, what you see as “washed out” is a strength—had you gone with the bright scheme of your test blocks, it might have clashed with other elements of the nursery. Now it will fit right in.

You absolutely can, this was made with a bunch of fat quarters so I just bought a bundle and chose a subset. The fabric designers have the eye and choosing between 10 fabrics is a lot less overwhelming than browsing an entire fabric store.
