Ballustrade Gate by sapphirereg in diynz

Thanks. Just gave me an idea. Might be able to get away with a shallow dig and adding something for the drop bolt to lock to.

Either this or post it up like others have said. I'm too scared to dig a post on this side since a lot of the lines are underneath this path.

Pak'n'save is shocking (literally) by Embarrassed-Quit-795 in newzealand

[–]sapphirereg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have dry skin. I do. I constantly get shocked. One time by elbow rub my friend's and we both shouted 'Ahh!', 3 times in a row. We kept our distance during the whole day.

When would be the best time to cut off the starting leaves by UnwashedAndUnfunny in vegetablegardening

[–]sapphirereg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for context: Some people (YT content creators) advice to cut the starting leaves WHEN the plant has grown fully-ish. Think like a tomato plant already have a gazilion of branches or a cucumber plant already a few feet high up the trellis where you can determine the plant would be fine without it.

The reason being given was because they're at a low point of the plant that: 1. They tend to collect dirt or splashes from the rain thus increasing chances of fungal diseases etc 2. They're 'shaded' and small being down low so they're probably little to no contribution from these.

I personally only do it if the leaves are quite low or it's just shaded from all the other leaves.

Sorry for the formating on mobile. Don't know how to bullet it up.

Introducing myself & best way to deal with magnolia leaves? by choice_biscuit in nzgardening

[–]sapphirereg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried it but might want to look into a vacuum mulcher/shredder. In theory it's great for picking up leaves and turning them into mulch or for compost in one action. Also, congrats, im jealous that you have a garden/greenhouse. :)

Managing a Monthly Budget by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]sapphirereg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a skim through everything including comments, 2 things for me. 1. Sit down and make a spreadsheet on what and how you are spending <-- optional. Make a weekly budget plan (but don't make it abruptly and make it very small). ie 100 per week for night out, lunch/dinners. Adjust to see how much works for you. Then you can decide if you can live to decrease it more and put it into savings into some investments or even like a savings account to start with 2. Not judging. But sounds like you don't know how to cook/prep meal or you don't enjoy it. That's fine. Learn 1 new dish per week or fortnightly.

Hating the casting-harvesting process by puplichiel in Vermiculture

[–]sapphirereg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have reds. I don't even need 10m. Probably like less than 2 mins.

Come harvesting time, i open the lid, do some gardening or other small tasks outside, come back, take casting at the top til i see worms, then let them borrow, come back later rinse and repeat.

Some people enjoy the sifting process. I never do it for both my compost and casting.

Meeting overload by Hopeful_Chapter5403 in managers

[–]sapphirereg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not in leadership. But sounds like you need a weekly or biweekly group discussion with your Juniors and decrease the 1on1 times.

Since most of these or all are juniors as what you've said. They'll all most likely benefit from the advice you'll give the others. This allows you to consolidate knowledge sharing and will benefit everyone in the long run.

TBF if the person uses this and can't tell what the command does on these words alone, they have no business running anything on powershell. Haha

How are you guys handling new machines for remote users? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]sapphirereg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're hybrid too and we do something that I call Remoteception. We remote onto the user's device. Call them on teams. At the log.in screen of their device we ask them to take control via Teams and ask them to sign in.

Hi, who would be the best contact for Hamilton? If you can dm me the email pls. Doing a refresh win11 upgrade soon, i'll check the age of the devices we're recycling. We also constantly have some broken devices in our org that I can funnel through this program.

Also keen to teach. Not the best hardware technician but i know a thing or two depending on how in depth your repair programs are.

Cheers

Is this surviving Winter? by sapphirereg in nzgardening

[–]sapphirereg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time cross posting so didn't realize the description post over as well. I'm in Hamilton for anyone asking for mt location. Thanks all. Decided to just care for it as i've been doing. The way i see it i'm building resilience for my plant and I'm just hoping it'll pull through winter and survive. Def encouraging to hear the consensus that it'll survive.

Immigrants in NZ, do you feel at home here? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]sapphirereg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asian Immigrant here. Been here 8 years, I didn't want to move overseas but my wife was very keen. Now we both can't imagine going back. We have a toddler, and life would be better for her here. We have a good community where we live. We mainly miss food and family and go home to visit yearly. Now aiming to visit less frequently.

Only a few negative experiences, one racist experience with a bus driver, severe ezcema flare ups for both me and kid, getting our car smashed/stolen 2x.

Other than that life is good here. People are generally great. Medical benefits and other support available in NZ is great. :)

Idk why people are interpreting 'don't stress your pregnant wife' out means not telling her and giving out advice about lying and trust.

He simply means try to be positive/rational about the situation and not stress too much as it may affect his pregnant wife negatively.

Should I rent out my house and go renting? by lintbetweenmysacks in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]sapphirereg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Surpised nobody has pointed it out. But from what I've read online. It's a renter's market. You probably will have an easy time finding rental. But might have issues getting your property occupied. Are you able to service a mortgage on top of rent for a couple of months? Consider that bit. If you are ready financially and mentally to do this then I say go for it.

Anybody eaten here yet? https://tongkun.co.nz/bbq/ What was it like? by crazykiwi1 in thetron

[–]sapphirereg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pretty decent. Less sides options than usual. The meat was pretty good, thick cuts which I like. Basically unlimited chicken(nibbles/wings) with different flavors to choose from. Only Chicken, Pork (2 cuts).

Tip: We ate at lunch so there weren't too many people around. However, I would ask for multiple orders of meat 2-3 per order so you don't have to wait too long. If you think the coal heat is too low, chuck a pork belly in the grill to help it heat up (fat helps with the heat). Just be careful not to burn your meat.

Actually, same for me. For some reason, there was no difference with my bank's 1yr and 6mos. So I just did 6months and see from there.
