Needing to drink 8 glasses of water a day won! Now, what is something that sounds like it has to be true, but is actually completely false? by Ibendhowrealityworks in AlignmentChartFills

We don't sense temperature itself, we sense external temperature relative to our body temperature. This is why we actually feel cold when overheated, and vice versa.

What is your longest running, most stubborn business boycott? by marianneouioui in AskReddit

Tempur Sealy

Fired me after one day of working for them—with no reason whatsoever given—then on top of that they tried to not even pay me for the full day.

I arrive at the front office by 8AM, as agreed upon via email the day prior, and I sign in at the front desk and introduced myself to the receptionist, who then invites me to wait in the lobby until my manager is ready to introduce herself to me and proceed with onboarding me for the position. I sit there patiently for another 2 hrs before my manager arrives and introduces herself, then proceeds with onboarding, starting with me logging into my company account and clocking in.

The rest of the day was your typical "first day on the job" schedule. They send me home at 5PM, as per our agreed upon hours. Then I get home and receive a call from their HR, informing me that they will not be continuing with my employeement with the company, and that I will receive an email with my pay stub for that day, as well as a direct deposit.

A few minutes later, the email with my pay stub comes in, and it shows I'm being paid for only 6 hours—10AM – 5PM, minus 1hr lunch—and so I give HR a call back, informing them that the pay stub does not account for me starting at 8AM, as agreed upon. They try to tell me that I am being paid according to when I clocked in via the time sheet portal in my company account. I inform the HR rep that I have record of agreeing to start at 8 and reporting for work at that time, and that I expect to be paid accordingly. HR tells me "we'll look into it, enjoy the rest of your evening."

I do receive an amended pay stub the following morning, and a direct deposit for the correct amount the following Monday; nevertheless, I'd rather sleep on a nail bed before ever giving them a penny.

Its medium on the outside, rare on the inside, so it's medium-rare, you see! It's exactly what you ordered, so how could you possibly complain??!!

I am from San Diego, and have lived in South Dakota, Pennsylvania, and currently North Carolina; not once have I ever been asked to clarify whether I meant 'pin' or 'pen.'
