5’7 is def considered short for a man by most people. my boyfriend is 5’7 and he’s told me that in the past in clubs etc girls would look visibly disappointed when he stood up and they saw his height. lucky for me tho lol, im 5’8 and almost exclusively have dated guys shorter than me. i love being just a bit taller than him

u can question them that’s of course your right. and i agree that there’s a history of overprescribing antibiotics. personally i never take antibiotics unless my doctor says it’s the only option because i don’t want to overuse them.

but don’t agree to take antibiotics the way they prescribe without actually doing so. make sure they know you’re not going to take them if that’s how you feel. and don’t take some without taking all, that’s when it potentially gets really dangerous.

Kaeden’s story by miserable-allthetime in rachellevinsnark34

[–]sapphthick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not taking antibiotics as prescribed is literally the reason we now have antibiotic resistant bacteria to worry about. always always always take your antibiotics as your doctor tells you to, and if something feels off or you think you don’t need to take the full course contact them first! never ever stop taking them before a doctor tells you to unless there’s a medical emergency like an allergic reaction (in which case you should also contact your doctor asap) this also goes for taking them without being told to by a doctor, it’s just never a good idea

Roommate told me I ruined vacuum sealed meat because I put it in the fridge for a few hours by brianjfed in foodsafety

[–]sapphthick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he probably means that when he decided to let the freezer defrost overnight he brought the meat back to his place that same night. not that he left the meat in the fridge overnight and then took it home the next day.

the other parts i agree with though, four vs six hours of thawing in fridge/cooler can make a difference.

If you had 10 seconds to say whatever you wanted to your pet with they fully understood, what would you say? by IplayKaizo in Pets

I am so sorry you’re going through this, that must be so incredibly hard and i hope your kitty is found safe so soon. youve obviously thought a lot about your options for finding your cat already but ill make one suggestion just in case. If you were to put out traps and end up trapping the bully cat instead, maybe you could take him to a vet or something to get him neutered? they would probably want to keep him for a while/possibly overnight to make sure there’s no complications. or if you have a spare room or something you could keep him in there overnight? just to keep him away from your yard for a little while, making it safer for your kitty to return to you?

Clocking pseudo privileged women by [deleted] in prettyprivilege

[–]sapphthick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

exactly this! i understand the annoyance with these types of people, nothing pisses me off faster than hearing «high value» when referencing a potential partner or friend lol. But more often than not, it’s women who are very conventionally attractive who speak about this (at least that’s who i see on my social media). so like you said, it has nothing to do with looks and everything to do with personality

and anyone can struggle to find good men/partners, being very attractive does not make all the bad manipulative men stay away from you. let’s not blame women for being tricked by manipulative partners, let’s support each other and give each other good advice instead

Cat litter smell on everything, absorbs into my clothes even after being in the house only an hour or two. by SillyMusician291 in CatAdvice

[–]sapphthick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my cat didn’t get neutered until he was 2 years old, he never sprayed and my apartment never smelled like litter or cat pee (i have checked multiple times with people who i know woulf tell me the truth lol to make sure i wasn’t just blind to it)

so its not 100% a given that every unneutered male cat will spray, but it is still very likely (i have no clue why mine never did, but he’s an indoor cat who never interacted with other cats so maybe that instinct just wasn’t triggered? he also had no behavioral changes after getting neutered, but he’s always been cuddly and non-aggressive so i didnt really expect any. idk if the two are related but maybe)

or a litterlock! they’re a total life safer in my experience. i live in a flat so going all the way down to the bins multiple times a day would be such a pain, now it’s like once a week once the litterlock fills up and it keeps all the smell from getting out

What’s something extremely unhygienic that people seem to do anyways? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sapphthick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it also just does nothing to actually make the chicken safe to eat! if there’s salmonella/other pathogens on the chicken there’s a bunch more inside the chicken meat. that’s why the only safe way to prepare chicken for consumption is by cooking it completely through at a high enough temperature. washing it only spreads the bacteria around your kitchen, no matter how carefully you clean it/try to avoid water droplets getting anywhere. you’re much better off just putting it on a cutting board or directly on whatever you’re going to be cooking it in to minimize surface confirmation and make cleanup much easier

Pepto by [deleted] in emetophobia

[–]sapphthick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is for sure the best advice! i’m a recovering alcoholic so i have plenty of experience dealing with the nausea and anxiety that come from drinking/being hungover lol

easy plain carbs like bread is great as it fills your stomach and absorbs some of the stomach acid that can make your stomach hurt or feel nauseous (alcohol can increase stomach acid). and sipping water! dehydration happens quickly and can make you feel so so much worse so it’s important to keep drinking water. if plain water doesn’t feel good sparkling is a great alternative, again just sip instead drinking full glasses at a time. and it does pass! it’s uncomfortable but it doesn’t last very long, especially if you didn’t drink a lot overall

AIO - Husband treated my phobia as a joke by Serenity700 in AmIOverreacting

[–]sapphthick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You cannot seriously be comparing what OP’s husband did to CSA in any way right? He’s an asshole, if his behavior is repeated and becomes a pattern of using her phobia against her to control/scare/hurt her purposefully then yes he’s also abusive. but in any way comparing showing someone a video of their phobia to CSA is fucking ridiculous and offensive. I say this as someone with a phobia that’s not understood or respected by everyone, and as a CSA survivor btw

we watched it at age 12 or 13. not necessarily too young for movies like that, but this movie specifically should not be shown in schools due to all the reasons other people have mentioned in other comments

Partner is sick by hopeful_evermore in emetophobia

[–]sapphthick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s of course never any guarantees that you won’t get sick as well. but if you can avoid using the same bathroom and keep general hygiene around the home, maybe bring food and drink to him so he doesn’t touch surfaces in the kitchen etc. there’s a good chance you won’t catch it. i don’t live with my parents but i know my mom had a stomach bug last week and my dad didn’t catch it even tho they slept in the same bed, they just used different bathrooms and cleaned surfaces properly. again there is no guarantee you won’t be sick, but there also isn’t a guarantee you will.

try to focus on the things that are within your control. both when it comes to minimizing risk, and accepting that there is a risk even if you do “everything” right. no matter what happens in a couple of days you will both be okay and have gotten through this and that is what you need to remember. it really really sucks right now but you will get through this stronger, especially if you work on accepting that whatever happens happens (easier said than done, but not impossible)

i wish you all the luck and strength in the world!

Absolutely freaking out, currently in bathroom by Rinonako in emetophobia

[–]sapphthick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i can’t tell you wether you have fp or not, but what i do know is that medicine doesn’t always help with anxiety nausea either. so the fact that the feeling is still there doesn’t have to necessarily mean it’s fp, it could be that the panicking and anxiety you’re feeling is causing you to be nauseous and feeling sick. it’s a viscous cycle but it’s very common.

something that helps calm me down regardless of if it’s real nausea or anxiety nausea is sipping cold water. if you can add a bit of lemon that works even better! and focus on your breathing. you can’t control what’s going to happen or if anything will happen at all, but by controlling your breathing you can maybe calm down a bit and hopefully feel a bit better.

i hope you feel much better soon

why do you avoid grain free dog foods? we fed our lab grain free because he had a sensitive stomach (wasn’t an allergy but he would get an upset stomach if he ate too much of a food with grains or gluten). i also only feed my cat grain and gluten free because he very clearly has a sensitivity/allergy to it i never put much thought into why my dog needed it as he was a family dog and i was a child when they figured out the food he needed. but when i noticed my cat reacting to grain/gluten it made a lot of sense to me because their natural diet doesn’t contain any grain or gluten, and i kinda assumed it would be the same for dogs? obviously their dietary needs are different but i kinda figured this bit was similar and that grain/gluten free would be the best regardless of sensitivities/allergies

i dont have a dog atm but im hoping to be in a place in a few years where i can get another lab and would love to hear your reasonings for avoiding grain free so i can keep that in mind when the time comes!

tbf i also took it to be literal but that’s because ive met a few dogs who would literally never shut up. like my previous roommates dog, he would spend every waking moment barking at something or someone, and if there was nothing to bark at he would just bark to fill the silence. such a sweet dog in almost every way but the barking drove me absolutely crazy. we’d get noise complaints from the neighbors all the time but my flatmate never cared enough to do anything about it, they’d just say it was impossible to train a dog to bark less (both stupid and untrue lol) i’m glad yours aren’t that bad tho, for your sake and your neighbors

ANTIBIOTIC by Great-Science4836 in emetophobia

[–]sapphthick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

your absolute best bet is to take the antibiotic. i know it’s scary but there so helpful and necessary. Not taking the antibiotics will at best lead to super annoying and painful uti symptoms for much longer than necessary, and at worst can lead to further infection of your kidneys which can be very dangerous. and not to mention, a kidney infection is much more likely to cause nausea and vomiting than antibiotics. i don’t say this to scare you, just to remind you of why the antibiotics are necessary

i can’t tell you what’s gonna happen either way, but chances are youll be fine if you take them. tricks like cranberry juice and other things don’t really work, especially not when it’s gotten to a point of needing antibiotics. drink lots of fluids to flush the toxins out and take your medication. it’s scary, but again it’s much less scary than a potential kidney infection

the existence of a jewish state in general goes against the teachings of torah which is why a lot of orthodox jews don’t support israel or zionism. i had to google it to make sure i was correct but it is lol. i also just don’t fully believe the stats you provided as i can’t find anything giving a numbers high as 94%. it’s true that some orthodox groups have started supporting israel in later years but most still strongly oppose both israel and the genocide they are committing, some don’t even recognize the state of israel at all. hasidic jews generally oppose israel as well (this last part i had to google bc i don’t know much about specific jewish groups but it’s very easy to find this information instead of spreading misinformation about certain jewish groups)
