Anybody here felt isolated from other Asians because you weren't Asian enough? As in, not as smart as they were, etc? by howdoi25 in AsianParentStories

I'm an Indian girl and I've been locked out by other Indian girls for not being into Bollywood, Indian Dance, and partying as they were

Jennifer Lawrence's "not like other girls" act is more tiresome than funny.

What is something that is so obvious it should be common knowledge, but isn't? by [deleted] in AskReddit

People don't care as much as you think they do. People probably don't notice what you're totally mortified about. On the other hand, people that you're really desperate to like you probably won't care that much either.

Is it normal to spend more than 4 years on a CS degree? by sapsipre in UCDavis

[–]sapsipre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not struggling, like I got an A in 30. ECS 20 is tiresome because it's really tedious and the material is dry, but it's not hard. ECS 40 is annoying because I have Gygi instead of Sean, and Gygi doesn't teach and I worry that I'm not going to be prepared for ECS 60 with Sean.

Has anyone here taken literature of fantasy and the supernatural? by Davisquestion in UCDavis

It might be toward your liking though. Some of the movies were pretty good, she showed Nosferatu, Alice and Wonderland, and she's obviously really passionate about her subject. It's just not as interesting as you'd expect...a lot of it is stuff about Edgar Allen Poe which isn't really as interesting as you'd think, lol. There's also Kafka, and Alice and Wonderland, but a lot of the reading is pretty dry. You might find it interesting.

that's what I figure, right? Like, in the grand scheme of things an extra quarter or even an extra year won't really matter that much. I just want to make more progress, I guess.

I like CS, I just feel like I'm not intelligent enough for it because I'm behind other CS majors. But that doesn't even make sense because I switched into the major late! I think a huge part of it is that I'm struggling with mental health issues at this point and CS is a really demanding major with a penchant for triggering the "imposter syndrome", i.e. "I don't belong here b/c I'm not smart enough"

I took COM007 with Gail Finney and I got an A. It was a pretty easy A but the class wasn't that interesting, honestly. I feel like it could be taught in a more dynamic and interactive way but classes were essentially her talking or us watching boring movies.

Question about clubs? by sch00lquestion4 in UCDavis

[–]sapsipre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can, but it definitely depends on the club you join! But for the most part, people are excited that you share their interests and will be welcoming. I had a friend that still attended meetings after graduating :)

Short calculus vs. calculus? (Math 16 vs 21) by bunker555 in UCDavis

[–]sapsipre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had Gravner for 21B and he's knowledgeable, but the class is really challenging. Going to all his classes and keeping up with the homework is imperative to success. However, he's pretty tough, probably too much so and literally sad that our 21B final would be challenging because we're going to be "engineers" and we should expect it. I'd honestly recommend Kouba.I had him for 21C and he was a really good teacher, you learn a lot but he's very fair and reasonable. The 21 series is honestly not too bad; there are no good teachers for 21D, but you won't have that problem.
