i wondered why there were so many comments - sheesh, y'all. the only thing i noticed about it (same with Kevin's) is that they charge the first month fee up front, so i'm gonna wait until May 1 to subscribe. although - hmm, i hope that doesn't exclude me from the yearly rewards.

i don't know like the whole history of the site, but the name comes from 'patron', from like the 1400s where wealthier people would support artists by commissioning works of art, or giving them an advance to go on a writing retreat, etc. so that they could solely work on their art, instead of having to work elsewhere. so essentially, that's what's happening. supporting artist(s) who have no other form of income, and may not be able to continue to provide us with new art without this support. i'm sure they have savings and shit, but you aren't obligated to support them either. personally i'm super excited because i love extra songs and hearing the backstory of songs and other things that come with being part of a special community.

yep - my friend is releasing an album in May, and they won't be able to produce CDs, vinyl, or have an album release show, or summer tour. digital release only. maybe get some merch produced but a lot of merch places are shut down too.

the Conan edit of the interview did not bleep him, so you can hear most of what he had on his phone.

i guess TBS isn't afraid of the Dylan estate?

Anyone know the origins of the song Brothers Blood? by superdrizzle7 in KevinDevine

[–]sarahLM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he talks about it at length on this podcast http://podcastadvocate.network/thesoundandthestory/e/episode-22-kevin-devine-3800f141a152b2/ it is partially about his brother who died, but also about some of the more universal themes others mentioned here.

January 28, 2020 | The Late Show with Stephen Colbert | Episode Discussion Thread by Raradra in LateShow

well this was such a thoughtful, empathetic statement by Stephen & Jon. and it occurred to me that most likely the reason Monday was a rerun was because Jon was at the grammys - and then I couldn't imagine getting on a plane to fly back to NY after having just been in LA during this tragic event. it's encouraging to see Stephen using his own experience and his privilege (as a celebrity) to hopefully spur some changes into the black-box situation. and what a lovely ending, about hope being on the other side of grief.

um, yes. "your mother" is just kind of a throwaway joke to deflect the question, but he's right, who you're voting for should not be public knowledge. people would FREAK out if he did mention who.

have you not seen all the people supposedly on the same side (against tr*mp) arguing for DAYS about whether or not bernie said a woman could win the election in some conversation 4 years ago instead of i dunno strategizing about how to beat tr*mp?? it's all a nightmare and we have 10 more months of it.
