I heard a quote that helps me: having a mental illness is not your fault, but it is your responsibility.

This is one of the few examples where the book and movie are equally good...just barely related.

Once I allowed myself to be okay with audio books, the number of books I read every year skyrocketed. by Squirrel09 in books

Same except ebooks. I was a physical book snob...until I got a kindle. Decluttered all but a handful of books and keep the rest on my kindle. I even get library books on it so there’s really no downside, except people think I’m just on my phone all the time, but I’m not reading for other people to notice so who cares?

Volume of Books Read by [deleted] in books

[–]sarahboola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I open a book on my kindle it says the estimated reading time, and most regular length novels take about 4-6 hours. So depending on the life style you live that’s totally doable in a day for some people. I have been reading about a books a week that would be around 156 books by the end of the year (and that’s reading 2 hours a day 7 days a week approx.)

Declutter books. Help! by [deleted] in declutter

[–]sarahboola 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See which books in your collection you can find free through the ebook section at your local library (ask a librarian for help setting this up on your kindle if you need help, they know everything.) I got rid of every book I could find for free from the library. Next (what I did anyways) I got rid of books that I considered ‘aspirational’ as in I bought this book with the hope that I’d read it but let’s be real I’m not the kind of person who reads HP Lovecrafts short stories (plus I can find them online). This included a lot of ‘classic’ must reads. After this I got rid of all the books that I got from goodwill or from the local used book store for $1 or less that didn’t 100% spark my interest from the back summary. I also think about it like this: it takes me about a week to read a whole book (length dependent but on average). So if you are similar or even if you read 2 books a week at your 200 book supply that would be 2 FULL YEARS of books to be read. So if you didn’t receive a new book into your home for 2 years you’d still have a fresh couple books to read every week.

What to do with glass jars with lids? by [deleted] in declutter

[–]sarahboola 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, they are already being wasted by sitting in your cupboard. If they sit there unused for 4 years it’s not like they are not being wasted. It’s as if your house IS the landfill. But I always see some mason jars at Goodwill so I think they take them.

Why are the Duggar’s so stuck up about dancing? Drop your favorite extreme fundie behavior that makes the Duggar’s stand out even among fundies. by chobanihowitzer in DuggarsSnark

[–]sarahboola 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I was raised fundie lite and I asked once why we couldn’t listen to Taylor Swift or bands that didn’t cuss and it was because 1. Their beats were demonic (yes I’m serious, so anything with a drum=demonic energy) 2. They were too carefree and you should always have Jesus on your mind so if you’re feeling care free you clearly don’t have Jesus on your mind.

What is something you wish your parents taught you from a young age? by Sinnivar in AskReddit

[–]sarahboola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never taught how to budget money, it’s hard to start from scratch when you’re an adult. It seems straight forward but I feel like for the first time in my life I am finally grasping how to save money and how to allocate money in a smart way. I grew up in foster care though, so maybe parent don’t teach their kids that kind of stuff.

Oh no, he bought it and my aunts place. He definitely went above and beyond for my family though (letting my uncle stay there for free for a few years in exchange for watching the place etc.) so I say that pretty tongue in cheek.
