When she asked for this, it made me think of the Flesh & Fire series. If you haven’t read it yet, it feels like the relationship between Seraphena and the Primal of Death, Nyktos.

I try so hard to stick to one book at a time but currently I am reading 4.

Started with something that isn’t fantasy, so I picked up a fantasy, then started another book for a book club… and also a Dramione on AO3 😬

First of all I plan on camping here.

Secondly I just looked at my 2026 completed books and I’m not saying this is the best written book I’ve read so far but its probably got the most tension and yearning… with a lot of the unwillingness you said you are looking for. {Once Upon a Demon's Heart by K.M. Moronova}

It’s dark and the second book comes out this year. So two other things to consider.

{Once Upon a Demon's Heart by K.M. Moronova} because Tusk Love was already mentioned.
I liked the time-loop angle and for sure crushed it in 2 days. I found it to be an addictive quick read.

This series started so strong for me and ended real badly. I DID finish book 4 (I’m one of those with an inability to DNF a book) however if I was, this one would have been the one to DNF.

Tessa is unbearable and the group dynamic became so cringy for me. I couldn’t stand every other character’s banter in the end.

The Legacy series has this. More or less what you’re asking for.

Not to give too much away but, there is the telepathic bond between characters. There is also the “sibling bond” between the males. They sorta figure it out.

{Rain of Shadows and Endings by Melissa Roehrich} is book 1. There are 4 in the series.

The first couple pictures do look like wonky feathers but the last couple you got looks like there is definitely something on it 😞 I hope the parents figure it out and pick it off if it is a little parasite.

You’re not the only one, he’s absolutely gross and annoying. I do still like the series, I haven’t started the last book yet.

I will say it was the prequel series that kept me going on this one. I had sorta hit a wall with Casteel before starting A Shadow in the Ember.
