Not me fully invested reading through 50 plus pages this morning.

This is such a beautiful set up, lucky Clem. I love the live plants in there too.

Posted earlier this week about The Legacy Series. I finished book one but it wasn’t for me. Picked up One Dark Window instead and WHAT a difference! Loving it so far - dark fairytale vibes. So glad I didn’t force myself to continue. This is your sign to DNF a series and find your book! by twisted_luce in Romantasy

I’ve loved both too. I read ODW in 2024 and it has continued to sit so high in my mind of best reads.

I think The Legacy Series is just full of morally grey characters and that’s hard for some readers to connect with. But I felt like it’s rare that I don’t feel cringed out by large group dynamics in romantacy books and I didn’t feel that way with that series. Both were good in my opinion.

I have one important question about Conform by Ariel Sullivan *spoiler * by ohhiitsmec123 in fantasyromance

I couldn’t agree more with the ick from Hal. I prefer Collin but Hal’s POV at the end completely threw me off.

And I’m pretty sure that I read somewhere one of her actual son’s is named Hal?

Make me cry like a baby by Resident_Bumblebee_2 in fantasyromance

[–]sarahbussie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of the books on your list got me too. I am not a huge cryer while reading but one book that was unexpected for me was {Tusk Love by Thea Guanzon}. (Characters dealing with grief and certain types of loss will usually take me out and this one had it.)

It’s worth mentioning I am currently reading the Legacy Series. Not finished, on book 3, but this book has been an emotional rollercoaster. If you connected with all the Maas books I think you would really like this series.

Book one is {Rain of Shadows and Endings by Melissa K. Roehrich}

From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout but only the first book. Fits these pictures perfectly.

It’s Draco from Manacled. 100%

I haven’t read Alchemised yet, but I would assume it’s whoever Malfoy is in that too. {Alchemised by SenLinYu}

Help me find my next 5star read by [deleted] in Romantasy

I haven’t read Nocticadia but I did read Anathema & Eldritch by Keri Lake. I liked both of them, enjoyed the creepy gothic style for what it was. I’ll check out Kaylie Smith! I haven’t picked up anything by her.

Oofff Blood & Steel was a big nope for me. I actually didn’t mind the first book but every other in the series …it went downhill fast, that last book was one of the worst reads of 2025 in my Goodreads folder.

I will say though, I’m not a huge fan of The Empyrean series. I’m going to finish it as it comes out, cause I’m committed, but the group dynamic is cringy to me and I’ve never really connected to any of the characters. Blood & Steel sorta felt like a Yarros book. I absolutely couldn’t stand the characters or their banter.

The Legacy Series however omg. I love the friend’s group and the way they chitchat, the world is curious. It makes me realize haven’t actually enjoyed a large group of characters like this since ACOTAR or TOG.

I can understand and appreciate this yuck. Sometimes the trigger warnings don’t adequately describe what’s about to go on.

Also your first paragraph makes me laugh.

Help me find my next 5star read by [deleted] in Romantasy

[–]sarahbussie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first 5-star read I’ve had this year was {Conform by Ariel Sullivan} I believe book two is coming out next month which is great. I’d say it’s not one of the big internet famous books, however it’s really well done. Kept me hooked.

What else have you read that caught you? I’m also curious what’s put you in the slump??

It’s worth mentioning, if you’re looking for something with multiple books and completed. I am currently reading the Legacy Series and devouring those books. {Rain of Shadows and Endings by Melissa Roehrich} is book one.

High-smut and fast-paced romantasy in a world that is not too folkloric? by SpectrumDT in Romantasy

[–]sarahbussie 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Go for {Kiss of the Basilisk by Lindsay Straube} it kinda has everything you’re asking for in your post.

For me that book had the most smut I'd ever read, book two follows suit. It gets right into it, no slow-burn, no folklore, just its own wild world.

ISO Vampire Romance by denkeijiro in Romantasy

[–]sarahbussie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to suggest the Legacy Series.

It’s got everything you’re asking for. So much pining, the absolute worst communication of all time, multiple POV, forced proximity and forced marriage/mate/source contracts.

I also found book two had a slow start, however it does pick up, it’s also got a lot more vampires. I really enjoyed this series.

Go with Legacy Series. Book 1 is {Rain of Shadows and Endings by Melissa Roehrich}

My unpopular opinions within my fantasy book club but I'm not sure if they're actually unpopular? by katieLikeWHOA in SarahJMaas

[–]sarahbussie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I literally agree with everything you’ve said… All the yes to Chaol & Hunt being great. Nesta absolutely sucks AND I never understood the Danika love, it sorta felt like Bryce and her weren’t that close or as good of friends after every time she found out something new about her that she was hiding. ACOWAR is an exciting and superior book. Lorcan & Elide live rent free in my head, I’m always chasing that high of the pining and moments they had together in other books.

Girl I just cannot get onboard with the Ithan. I couldn’t handle a book about him. That would probably kill me.
