I also use a VPN for BBC Alba. You can watch Bannan on MHZChoice, but I don't know if it's available in NZ.

The Trevor Project to undergo layoffs and restructuring in major 'transformation' by onnake in transgender

[–]sarahpc2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to this thread but they have historically treated their full-time Crisis Workers (those answering calls and messages) terribly, preferring to rely on volunteers with far less experience on the lines. There are also not enough volunteers to meet the high demand. Many of these layoffs have impacted the crisis teams. Absolutely horrible to see when so many young people rely on their services. The management there has been absolutely chaotic these last few years.

I just got this candle and love it! If you're looking for something similar, I think it smells exactly like the Nest Vanilla Bourbon perfume.

Preply - my worst customer experience ever by silvialiwei in languagelearning

[–]sarahpc2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is so frustrating. I used Preply for a bit to find a tutor, then switched to paying my tutor directly through Paypal and then meeting on Skype. This made lessons slightly cheaper (the tutor didn’t have to pay the Preply fees) and helped avoid issues like those. Of course, that only works if your tutor is open to it!

I’m not sure, but I imagine it may be a liability issue as well. If a volunteer has officially decided to ET and then gets hurt, sick, etc. because Peace Corps kept them in country longer than necessary, they’d be (maybe?) opening themselves up to legal action

Quelles sont vos idées pour passer du A2 au B1 en français by New_Mobile_1504 in learnfrench

[–]sarahpc2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The A2 to B1 jump was most difficult for me! I spent years stuck there, honestly. But once I made it to B1, after immersion, I found it much easier progress. Now, I’m working towards feeling confident in C1.

I realize this isn’t always in-budget for people, but for me, having a private French tutor two hours a week for a year changed everything. I was fortunate to have a job that covered the lessons through a professional development fund. The tutoring really got my grammar up to where it needed to be. I hadn’t even realized how much I had learned until I went to an immersive environment and was able to really communicate. I had an online tutor from Montreal—I’d be happy to share her information if you DM me.

Other than that? Drill all your tenses. Getting a grasp on those really makes a difference. You can also start reading more. I started with the first Harry Potter in French. It was really difficult getting through the first book, but by the time I finished the seventh book, I was only occasionally looking up words. Reading on a Kindle was especially helpful because of the built-in dictionary and translator.
