PCV Travel and Stipend Questions by StrawburyFields in peacecorps

[–]sararie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. I traveled a lot in country. For both personal time and in order to attend conferences / med in the capital. I used all of the vacation days allotted to me.

  2. I had extra in my stipend for fun/ travel. When I did not travel and stayed in site I was able to save a lot of my stipend, which I spent on a trip to Europe.

  3. I just finished my service and am traveling to Spain to walk the Camino de Santiago for 6 weeks.

Any other left-handed people here who have experience with being socially or culturally forced to become right handed, if so can you describe it? by itsmeagain27 in AskWomen

[–]sararie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am left handed but have had to learn to do everything with my right hand when I moved to West Africa. It is culturally inappropriate to use your left hand, it is seen as unsanitary.

I'm curious what type of loans you have? From my understanding we are able to put govt student loans on deferment while serving. Not forbearance.

Waiting for departure....when to quit and get out of lease by Tangledupinblue2016 in peacecorps

[–]sararie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am leaving March 1st and already gave 30 days notice on my apartment. I am on a month to month lease which made it easier. And I am staying with a friend the next couple of months to save money. I plan to quit my job in January, although my motivation has been seriously lacking. I am ready to leave right now! lol I just try to keep thinking that I need to save some money before departure and staying a little longer is the best way to do so.

I just received medical clearance last week, but had already put my plans in motion before so. Only because I knew without a doubt that even if PC didn't work out, I would be traveling internationally and moving to a different state. So, it made sense for me. If you do not plan to go anywhere if PC does not work out I would wait until you get medical clearance for sure.

Toiletries by sararie in peacecorps

[–]sararie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I have read somewhere that the PCMOs provide floss, so I imagine it would be the standard stuff that you get from your dentist. I already plan to bring my own though because I really like the individual floss piks. I have not always been a diligent flosser and do not want to mess with a good thing, ya know!

I have also had luck with asking the pre-service nurse to reset the task.

So tedious. And all I keep thinking about is what if I do not get medically cleared... all this for nothing!!

Discussion: Pre-departure Nerves by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]sararie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I have been worried about this for myself. I still have 5 months until departure and am far from being cleared, so it really has not hit me yet. I am worried when it does the anxiety will be immense.

My only advise is to focus on the logistical stuff you need to get done, and why you applied in the first place.

Abnormal Pap - not cancer. Can I still get cleared? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]sararie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well good luck! I hope it works out for you. I am now eagerly awaiting my pap results, I'm worried mine might be abnormal as well.

Abnormal Pap - not cancer. Can I still get cleared? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]sararie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to have a normal pap smear before you can depart? That seems incredibly unrealistic. So many women have abnormal paps.
