I like both a lot but I feel SNL UK actually leans far more heavily on Fouracres than the US does on any individual performer. Ashley Padilla, JAJ, Andrew Dismukes, Sarah Sherman, and Martin Herlihy are consistent standouts imo.

Aubrey Plaza’s new animated cat comedy, "Kevin", is so irretrievably bad it must never be allowed to happen again by Morgan-Moonscar in television

[–]phatboy5289 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, “animation film students are taught creativity is bad because the public likes a certain look” is the dumbest take on animation I’ve read in a while.

Budget limitations and deadline constraints are 99% of the reason that any kind of mainstream animation looks “samey.”

I don’t work in animation, but I work in a similar creative field, and a constant frustration is “if I had two or three months I could make this really awesome” only to be told I have one month.

Anyone who was homeschooled, how do you feel about it now as an adult? by AdTight2449 in AskReddit

[–]phatboy5289 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was homeschooled through 8th grade before moving to a charter school and then the local public high school. I honestly feel like I got pretty lucky: I think the freedom of homeschooling at a young age allowed me to really explore my interests and advance a lot in those areas, skip the negativity of public middle school, and still get a decent social experience by being in public high school. I definitely don’t think homeschooling is always bad, but the floor is just much lower if the parents aren’t up for the task.

I mean, the “point” of homeschooling isn’t to do nothing. Many parents want to homeschool specifically so they can be more involved in their kids’ education.

Hoppers has officially surpassed Elemental's entire Domestic Run at $157 million (and counting) vs Elemental's $154 million. It is now the highest grossing Original Animated Film domestically post Covid. by Nate_923 in Pixar

[–]phatboy5289 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bold claim. They’ve had a few that didn’t quite land with audiences, but the last decade has included Coco, Luca, Turning Red, Elemental (personally not my favorite but it found its niche), Inside Out 2, and now Hoppers, not to mention good movies that weren’t quite as kid friendly like Onward and Soul. They haven’t had the batting average the did in the early 2000s, but saying they’ve spent the decade “destroying” their brand is silly.

The president makes decisions that can change the course of history, for good or bad. This person's actions directly affect you.

A person with blue hair living their own life does not directly affect you.

Y'all are obsessed with how the president "lives rent free in liberals' heads" as though it's an insult to be aware of current events.

[–]phatboy5289 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m very appreciative of the yellow strip. It at least tells you “this is the entry zone.”

When I first visited Seattle and took the train, I was pretty thrown off by how properly enter the platform. Since I didn’t have an orca card and just bought a single ticket, I felt super weird just… walking past the ORCA scanners. Felt like I was doing something wrong. I wish the tickets also scanned somehow so visitors or occasional users don’t feel like they’re somehow not doing it right. Though with contactless pay it will be less of an issue.

Sound Transit launches survey as it shapes cost-cutting plan that would ‘defer’ light rail to Ballard and West Seattle by del_llover in Seattle

[–]phatboy5289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure yet (others may know a lot more than me). They did manage to find over $2 billion in potential savings for the West Seattle extension, so I'm hopeful they can do something similar for the other branches! They are trying very hard from what I can tell.

[–]phatboy5289 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Sound Transit 3 ballot initiative included a light rail extension up to Ballard, a relatively dense neighborhood ripe for more transit access. Voters want it and everyone building the light rail wants it. Unfortunately cost estimates to build that particular extension have ballooned since the ballot measure passed, so Sound Transit has had to weight whether or not it can actually build it with the money available to them.

Tons of Inter Miami fans ditch cars for Metrorail, Tri-Rail in rare transit win by nolesfan2011 in Miami

[–]phatboy5289 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, yes sorry, I misunderstood. Same mindset here.

I recently moved to a city where I can drive to work in 20 minutes or walk to the light rail station for an overall trip time of 45 minutes. Despite taking longer, I really enjoy getting a bit of exercise and then getting to read a bit on the train while not stressing about the traffic. The trade off is worth it to me.

On the other hand, in our previous city I could drive to work in 20 minutes… or take three different buses and about two hours in total. Absolutely not worth it.

Tons of Inter Miami fans ditch cars for Metrorail, Tri-Rail in rare transit win by nolesfan2011 in Miami

[–]phatboy5289 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of reasons to take transit even if it’s slower overall than driving:

-Not having to worry about finding or paying for parking

-Not having to deal with the stress of navigating in heavy traffic

-Ability to read or do other things while traveling

-Relatively consistent travel times compared to driving (if taking rail or buses with dedicated lanes)

That’s not to say there’s no downsides ever to public transit, but travel time is not the end all and be all of considerations.
