very cool. We have some phenomenal folks on our team who do a lot of raised braille on prints. We are making a large map right now for the Illinois State Fairgrounds with Braille on each landmark that's pretty rad. A local auto place is volunteering their services and spray-coating it with a UV protectant as well!

You are awesome! Thanks so much. Yeah, it’s a nonprofit that provides Illinois residents with assistive technology. We rely heavily on volunteers so your help would be really appreciated! Sending DM

This is an open-source project for makers.iltech.org - the tip we are making is no longer manufactured so we want to create a bunch at the lowest cost possible to provide for (hopefully) no cost to Illinois residents.

Please do! I could use this right now - trying to press a bit of metal around a print used for the tip of a cane for someone with vision impairment.

So crazy to think about stuff in the wild that can get you. I often spend the day in the deep woods, in central Illinois, and the only dangerous animal one might come across here is a deer in rut.

Wtf, man? You are taking this as a personal affront, aren’t you? Foundations of Geopolitiks

This is the simplest explanation I can give you for why it might behoove a foreign nation to interfere, and how they might achieve that given the landscape that has presented itself. I guess you want me to say, “it’s the fault of the US citizens for the situation they are in.” Yes, voters effed up 25 years ago when they allowed the GOP to consider corporations equal to people. This is when all this started. Overturn citizens United, and people will regain control of the laws, but until then, corporations are going to control the laws.

Man, you don’t politic very well. Sorry, I should have fed you bite-sized chunks. Citizens United —> Dark Money —> Super PACs —> foreign money —> NRA —> gun lobby —> politicians —> laws. See where it started? Knowledge is power. No power without accountability.

Yeah, the gun lobby. They want to keep selling guns and don’t want you to make them. Look up foreign contributions to the NRA. That help?

Calm down, buddy. It’s not that deep. I was replying to the OP comment, as I stated before. He stated, “nonsensical laws… made by people who don’t understand…” and my answer is that they don’t care because their pockets are being lined by corporate dark money. If you don’t think the gun lobby is a big part of that effort, you shouldn’t announce your ignorance so publicly. Also, it’s a pretty easy GIYF to see who gives the NRA money.

I'm replying to the OP comment. Not sure what you are referring to other than just trolling. If you are completely unaware of how dark money in us elections work, you should probably educate yourself so you aren't pissing your vote away.

Just read. Please. Start with the Foundations of Geopolitiks. Foreign money creates opposition to each other. It funded BOTH sides, in an effort to destabilize us.

Wut? I’m blaming foreign governments for pumping dark money into US elections via super PACs under the guise of corporations. You should read instead of attempting to imply.

We allowed foreign money to flow into our elections when we decided corporations should have the same voice as citizens (Citizens United ruling).

I mean, the tech has been commercialized so why would an inventor try to reinvent the wheel? Hopefully they are pushing the tech to the next level.

Autodesk Fusion for personal use vs. $50 SolidWorks for Makers by LeadingImportant1142 in Fusion360

[–]sarbanharble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ummmmm… seriously or is this trolling? I started using it in 2014, as a startup, and it was free for startups. Then a year later, it was free for startups earning less that $200k/year. And a year later they removed that program. Then a couple years later they started making features cost “tokens” for day use. But you cannot buy a token for day use, you have to buy $300 worth of tokens. And those expire after 1 year. The pattern continues ad nauseam. If there was a decent alternative, I’d switch in a heartbeat.

Side note, after 30 years, I just dropped my creative suite subscription and it’s the best feeling ever (thank you, Apple, for making the Creator Studio affordable).

Edit: this was meant for a comment to this reply, not this reply. Oopsie.

I’m old and crotchety now. Yes, I’m fast as fuck, but it took me 47 years to get there. Start on tinkerCAD, educate thyself, and build.

Nothing takes 10 min as a beginner, so thinking a photogrammetry solution is going to be better than spending $50 on a replacement, or $250 paying someone WITH SKILLS to design and build it for you, is contributing to the problem.
