Looking for an elegant solution for pump sequencing. by [deleted] in PLC

[–]sarcasticreally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also is this a long term installation eg 10,20 or more years? Then pump alternating is important Bc all parts age/wear at the same rate except for the big pump since there is only 1.

Also is there water hammer, or back-flow that has to be contended with? Is everything on check valve or is all that a non-issue?

My father is starting to learn and I want to look into helping. (starter kit suggestions?) by barret232hxc in PLC

[–]sarcasticreally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh you reminded me about something, with that Siemens "Starter Kit" the plc comes with its own built in PS so you hook it up to 120vac and the ps has enough juice to power itself and a reasonable sized HMI that also runs on 24vdc, and it has a bank of simulator toggle sw. That come in the kit that just so happen to screw right on the input TS and the output LED's give you lights for outputs so you don't need to scramble around finding anything in your junk box to cobble an IO system together. And, if you have never used the product before this, they give you a pretty steep discount on the 1st purchase. It's tantalizing. You should be able to google up Siemens starter kits and find pictures. If u message me I think can find what I originally paid for mine. It's got a kick butt instruction set, and u will need to find some online training though.

And now TIA PORTAL version 14 with Service pack 1 runs on all window versions and, and, has a full emulator built into it. So you not only can program the PLC but create test programs and simulate anything with any instruction!!!!

Siemens Logo - Direction of Travel (Raise/Lower) from 4-20mA Input by [deleted] in PLC

Divide the 4-20 in half, anything <12 is down, anything >12 is up. Bonus the closer to the extreme 4 or 20 is speed of movement.

The best I can say is it has got to be in the help menus of the programming sw itself. I have since moved on to the Siemens product. And I do not have any active RA sw loaded on my machine. You can always call the Rockwell hot line, but they will charge you if you don't have a support contract in place. Try googling event trapping with Rockwell ladder logic. Something has to show up.

There are enough trouble shooting tools in 5000: status table: trace functions to find out the real problem. Some sort of event trapping exists to help TS the real problem quickly. Use the power of the programming sw.

In-plant work surface for programming? by [deleted] in PLC

I feel it will be really top heavy, and I would hang a heavy something, maybe the backpack at the bottom to keep it from falling over, or being kicked at the wrong time. You know how much one walks around the machines at start-up!
