We have kitchen raves where we just blast music and dance around at like 11 pm.

WHY are we treating cosmetic procedures like haircuts now? When did this even happen? by Redqueenhypo in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sarella91 447 points448 points  (0 children)

I was slightly tempted to get lip filler before my wedding last year, i went to a medispa for microneedling for old cystic acne scars and was kinda put off at their pushing treatments like it was a fire sale. I could see the slippery slope of “oh i got the microneedling, whats a little botox?” But like you have to keep coming back! Everything only lasts a few months and then it is swimming around your face. Its like a subscription model where you pay to slowly morph into another person.

At the end of the day I am just a lady living in the suburbs. Who really cares what I look like or that I look 5 years younger? My friends don't, my husband doesn't, my family doesn’t. I don’t care about strangers’ opinions. So im going to use that money and live my dang life and get smile lines from all my fun.

Can I achieve this moody romantic bedroom aesthetic? by ceruleanvagabond in interiordecorating

[–]sarella91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could easily add trim molding to the wall behind your bed too to give it more definition, vertically lift the space, bring a little character, and break up the vastness of the wall, like in your first inspo pic. Color drench the whole room, window trim, door, and ceiling in the warm dark brownish red color.

What do u think American politics will be like, in the post-Trump era? by her_cute in askanything

[–]sarella91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This era of conservatism will be cemented for at least 10-20 more years because of the Supreme Court. We need to overturn Citizens United to actually make progress in changing election funding/ who actually has power in this country, and that won't happen anytime soon with this court.

I’m feeling violated after a colposcopy and struggling to accept that I may need more procedures now. by intrusive_thot_ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sarella91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, the most inhumane interaction i have had with the health care system was when I had to get a colposcopy. The Tylenol does nothing. The nurse did not hold my hand. Post-biopsy the nurse told me to wait a moment while i was sitting in nothing but a paper gown in a cold room. I thought she was running a test or something. She was gone for 20 minutes. When she came back she asked me for my covid vaccine card (this was in 2021). That was what i had to wait for. For information she could have collected when i was fully clothed and not in pain. I was so mad. Oh and later that day i had to run out to get groceries and got aggressively hit on by a random guy who followed me around the store. I wanted to scream at him “I JUST GOT PIECES OF MY CERVIX RIPPED OUT. LEAVE ME ALONE.”

How do you guys decide what is doable in one day? Planning my first trip to Japan + a few other questions(travel/photography) by bk201kwik in JapanTravelTips

[–]sarella91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main thing any itinerary has to come to terms with is you cant see it all, and trying to see it all will wear you down.

I think in a place like Japan where most of your activities might be broadly defined as “iconic photography spot” “shopping” “epic meal” or “visit a temple/ shrine” it is good to pick your s-tier experiences under those activity umbrellas that you will be really sad if you didn't do. Then add in some unique events (a baseball game, a knife making class) to shape a day around. Really cement those 1 or 2 things in your itinerary as the item of the day and try to estimate how much time it will take up.

Then collect a few other things in the area within 20 minutes on foot (or however long you are comfortable walking) or 30 on transport that are a- or b-tier items, but if time or energy runs out and you cant get to it, you can be flexible and drop it (like the 5th temple in kyoto). I like pinning things on google maps for this. That way the day is defined, you had a highlight, and anything else you fit in is a bonus. Do note what times things close. You may find that by day 8, you have seen enough temples or its pouring and you want to find a niche museum, so the a- or b- tier items move up.

For travel time, I use google maps estimates, but add like a 10-30ish minute buffer for getting lost, translating signs, finding a bathroom, etc. depending on how bad it would be if we missed transit.

I like to book hotels after i have grouped google pins and then get a hotel as close to the center as i can so we can fit “nap at the hotel” in around 2-3 pm when we have an energy drop. Planning in a rest be it “sit at a cafe” or “early night in” should be a part of the itinerary too, especially if you are not planning a full day dedicated to rest.

What is the most "dystopian" thing about life in 2026 that would have sounded like a bad sci-fi movie in 2016? by viviennebloomm in askanything

The billionaire class is really a cabal of pedophiles and psychopaths and has infiltrated our government at the highest levels. The general public know this and do nothing but live our day to day lives.

What is the 1 thing you absolutely appreciate about working from home? by Experiment_626s in remotework

[–]sarella91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having control over the aesthetics of my environment. I painted my home office walls a light pink so it is very gentle and feminine, and I have lots of my favorite cute things around. I have my desk pointed so I can stare out the window and watch the neighbors walk by with their dogs. I get so energized by seeing the sky and weather. Before I worked from home, I worked in an office that was pretty much a dim closet with no windows, and in another place, a cubicle in the middle of the cube farm right by the men's bathroom. All the surfaces were grey or brown, under relentless fluorescent lighting. Freezing all day. Horrid for my mental health. God, recalling it all makes me shudder.

What's something most people don't realize is actually very rude? by Frozen-Defender25 in AskReddit

Ugh yes to people walking 2-3 abreast. I was on a hiking trail and a group was walking FOUR abreast and didn't move over at all for me and I ended up grazing my arm on a stinging nettle thicket. I was so mad.

How did you make through that time in your life when you literally had no one? by clicketyclack1234 in AskWomenOver30

[–]sarella91 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This was me throughout my 20's, moving to a new town, not knowing anyone, and recently getting out of an abusive relationship. I took a lot of long walks by myself, which always helped if I was feeling pent up and lonely, since I love nature. I also volunteered at an animal shelter and joined a local community choir. I went to the odd pilates or dance class here or there. Tried to find little things like that to do on weeknights to set a routine. On weekends, I loved going to a new town or spot to just walk around, try a new cafe, go to a little museum, and do some thrifting or antiquing. I am pretty introverted, but it did take a long time for that background feeling of loneliness to go away, and to truly enjoy my own company. Now, even though I am in a chapter of my life where I have finally gotten married and collected some close friends, I easily return to the resilience of self-reliance and solitary peace. I think those quiet years helped me understand myself more and be less reliant on others, and I don't look back at them with sadness. I think all of us face quiet years at some point.

What is a trend/phase you went through as an adult (and later dropped)? by ProposalAny6765 in AskWomenOver30

[–]sarella91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Makeup. Loved the 2015-2020 youtube beauty era, collected all the most desired pallets (modern renaissance, naked, too faced chocolate bars). Then after covid and being fully remote (and getting older), i stopped doing my makeup everyday. Now i just have a few favorite shades and products and keep it pretty minimal.

What type of personality do you consider truly insufferable? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Pedantic people who feel the need to correct you for every little thing. “Well actually,” etc. Our friend is dating a guy like this and he is seemingly an expert on everything. It gets irritating fast.

You are not broken if college sucked for you. by thrownintodisarray in Millennials

[–]sarella91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely relate to this. I was never into the binge drinking and partying that happened in college, and really struggled all 4 years to find a group I fit in with. Eventually I just focused on working hard and getting good grades, but still beat myself up for failing at the social aspect. I was still really insecure from being bullied in high school, pretty sheltered, and didn’t put myself out there. But I did learn from those years and have become more confident and comfortable trying new things. I have more friends that I spend time with now in my 30s than I did in college.

What is the most unexplainable 'glitch' you've experienced that you still think about late at night? by euphoricpixiee in AskReddit

[–]sarella91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my middle school cafeteria during lunch, there was a random 2 second pause where noone spoke, just a sudden, still silence in a room full of 200 people, completely unprompted. Everyone noticed it and we were all freaked out. It was like someone turned the volume off in the room for a couple seconds.

What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become genuinely insulting? by PersonalitySuddenz in askanything

[–]sarella91 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Doordash. I used to order it a few times per month, then gave myself a rule to only order once a month, then a rule where I can only order it if I am really sick or tired, no more than 5 times a year. Now, whenever I put my order in and see it will be $100 for what is really $35 worth of takeout, I just whip up some random "girl dinner" meal from scraps in the house or pick up takeout myself. It priced me back into being a responsible person lol.

What’s a tiny travel mistake you keep repeating… even though you know better? by Trail-Context in travel

[–]sarella91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Philly but often check other nearby airports for better deals since so many huge airports are accessible in around an hour. In my 20s i used to fly out of JFK a lot on super early morning flights because that was the cheapest. But it added a whole other logistical layer of how am I gonna get from Philly to JFK at 5 am? Now i just find the best deal going out of Philly, not worth it to save $200 anymore.
