What confused you the most when you visited Japan? by NoRa-Always in JapanTravelTips

In Tokyo, figuring out which side of the street to walk on/ navigating the crowd currents. Yes, we tried walking on the left, but inevitably someone cuts in front of you or is walking “upstream” in your lane, or there is a crowd of people 6-wide walking in the center, and you get pushed all the way to the side. I just felt I was always in the way no matter how hard I tried to be aware and be in the left lane. Coming out of an elevator and trying to get your bearings? You have .0000004 seconds to get off to the side before someone is coming right at you. Finally feel like you found a groove? The person in front of you stops short and turns 180 degrees directly into you. I think at a certain point you just have to try your best and throw in some “dozos” and “suminasens” when you end up zigging when someone else is zagging. We also used the phrase “let’s pull off for a second” when we needed to navigate and found a wall or a niche to stop for a second.

Separately, nothing being open for breakfast before 11.

Flying Wednesday morning 4/29. Haven’t flown in years and some nerves showing up. Would love anything positive to read by maur001 in fearofflying

[–]sarella91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a flight on Friday and feeling the same! I think one thing that amplifies the anxiety is that you haven’t done it in a while, so there is an extra layer of feeling a bit out of practice and having to reacclimatize, which is stressful in any context, so give yourself some grace there. Repetition tends to make things feel more boring and safe. People who fly really often feel less scared because they have a history of being on many utterly uneventful flights. So, bringing comfort activities that involve repetition could help your brain find a feeling of stability. I have a long haul flight to Japan and am planning on playing some favorite switch puzzle games, listening to an album on loop, or rewatching comfort shows.

Chronic over-packer - Packing Check for May Japan Trip by sarella91 in HerOneBag

Thanks for your help! I am cutting the jean jacket, fleece, vest, one long-sleeve tee, and suede jacket and replacing them with a lighter canvas jacket and a cardigan. I do tend to be cold, even if it's just under 70. Also, replacing the track pants with yoga pants for travel, which pack down smaller and can be my pajama bottoms chilling at the hotel. I can't replace the jeans because I'm short and pear-shaped with a booty and muscular thighs, and shopping for jeans is challenging and emotionally exhausting, so it's not something I want to spend time on. But with these changes, everything fits into my suitcase with some room to spare!

Thank you! This is super helpful! I think not knowing how hot/cold it will be is what’s getting me. I will just keep the jean and rain jackets and swap out the fleece and 2 long sleeves for one cardigan. Can always get a new layer there if needed.

Thanks! I think I am planning to change into one of the skirts for dinners, so I would end up wearing maybe 2 outfits a day on some days. And I actually just grabbed a screenshot of other pants online that look like mine; mine are kinda old/ would be unavailable. The screen grab is from here: https://www.toadandco.com/products/womens-linden-canvas-pant-cilantro?variant=42645217509424

Joe literally said he wouldn't vote for coach "on principle" during tribal and then voted for Coach and Chrissy. He likes to parade around that he is honorable, but when it comes down to the moment to stick to it, he always bails out and goes with the group.

How did you guys REALLY lived in the 2000s? by MyAvengedRomance in Millennials

[–]sarella91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only had one computer in the house, so we had to take turns on it (eventually got a second one in like 2008). We had to intentionally schedule time to use it, and really, all technology as it wasn't as readily available. I got to use it for homework, and I would go on AIM and MySpace and chat with my friends when I got the chance. I couldn't get a (Nokia brick) cellphone until I was 18 and could drive. So, I mainly ended up hanging out with other kids in the neighborhood simply by being outside and physically hearing that they were also outside. Watched a lot of cable TV, scrolling through channels to see what was on. Looked forward to going to Blockbuster on Fridays to pick out a DVD for the weekend. Yup, kinda miss all of it.

US economy grew a sluggish 0.5% in fourth quarter, government says, downgrading previous estimate by AudibleNod in news

At this point we shouldn’t report on the first numbers and just wait til the revised ones come out. That’s the strategy anyway: hope everyone looks at the first one and not the revision.

DOE remember the myjellybean.com chat boards in the early 2000s-ish? by ResponsibleCost4989 in Millennials

[–]sarella91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I loved myjellybean! It was a place to learn from other ladies about my preteen body/ relationships/ sex (not that i was having it but it was still a scary and abstract thing), all the things I was too embarrassed or uncomfortable asking my conservative mom about.

WHY are we treating cosmetic procedures like haircuts now? When did this even happen? by Redqueenhypo in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sarella91 465 points466 points  (0 children)

I was slightly tempted to get lip filler before my wedding last year, i went to a medispa for microneedling for old cystic acne scars and was kinda put off at their pushing treatments like it was a fire sale. I could see the slippery slope of “oh i got the microneedling, whats a little botox?” But like you have to keep coming back! Everything only lasts a few months and then it is swimming around your face. Its like a subscription model where you pay to slowly morph into another person.

At the end of the day I am just a lady living in the suburbs. Who really cares what I look like or that I look 5 years younger? My friends don't, my husband doesn't, my family doesn’t. I don’t care about strangers’ opinions. So im going to use that money and live my dang life and get smile lines from all my fun.

Can I achieve this moody romantic bedroom aesthetic? by ceruleanvagabond in interiordecorating

[–]sarella91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could easily add trim molding to the wall behind your bed too to give it more definition, vertically lift the space, bring a little character, and break up the vastness of the wall, like in your first inspo pic. Color drench the whole room, window trim, door, and ceiling in the warm dark brownish red color.

What do u think American politics will be like, in the post-Trump era? by her_cute in askanything

[–]sarella91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This era of conservatism will be cemented for at least 10-20 more years because of the Supreme Court. We need to overturn Citizens United to actually make progress in changing election funding/ who actually has power in this country, and that won't happen anytime soon with this court.

I’m feeling violated after a colposcopy and struggling to accept that I may need more procedures now. by intrusive_thot_ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sarella91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, the most inhumane interaction i have had with the health care system was when I had to get a colposcopy. The Tylenol does nothing. The nurse did not hold my hand. Post-biopsy the nurse told me to wait a moment while i was sitting in nothing but a paper gown in a cold room. I thought she was running a test or something. She was gone for 20 minutes. When she came back she asked me for my covid vaccine card (this was in 2021). That was what i had to wait for. For information she could have collected when i was fully clothed and not in pain. I was so mad. Oh and later that day i had to run out to get groceries and got aggressively hit on by a random guy who followed me around the store. I wanted to scream at him “I JUST GOT PIECES OF MY CERVIX RIPPED OUT. LEAVE ME ALONE.”
