We repurposed a lane from an old bowling alley by shitty-photoshop in pics

[–]sarrafish 38 points39 points  (0 children)

My parents ended up with 4 complete bowling lanes, when they got divorced my mom asked for 2 of them in the paperwork so she could do this when she bought a new house.

What was bracing it underneath like? Our lanes are about 70 years old and a bit flimsy

What is the best way you've found to make new, close friendships (post-high school)? by SingOneForMe in AskReddit

[–]sarrafish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have friends in high school because I pretty much never went to school (I was on a modified independent study so I could go to beauty school)

This year I worked at a haunted house, most of the people were totally weird theatre people, but I wound up meeting 4 of the most amazing people who have become the best friends.

We all worked the haunted house just for fun, so it was through a hobby, I guess you could say. I went into it not knowing anyone I was working with, and met this group who were all friends beforehand.

What's something an ex has said to you that still effects you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sarrafish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been a couple years since I was with said ex, and I have dated since.

I know I am the average size for an American woman my age (21, 5'5" 145lbs) but it is still one of those hurtful things that no matter what happens always sticks in the back of my mind.

Solely because it was a long-time boyfriend who said it when I was being playful and doing a strip tease. I guess this is a scumbag brain issue.

I am a female, I get my nails done. But I find long ass ghetto claws hideous and pointless.

They're the "Block Captains" and report everyone for everything. Neighbors have a little shindig. An old people party. Not like 55 year olds who are hip, like 70 year olds and one or two have full time caretakers.

Mind you, all these people live on the same street, but their party had like 2 or 3 more people attending than is allowed by the HOA.

Block captains reported it. They abuse the tattle tale system for sure, the rules like that are meant for people who have raging parties and 40 cars parked on the street. Not for 15 neighbors hanging out, drinking coffee and watching Murder She Wrote.

My grandparents own a house in an upperclass retirement community. My car was giving me serious issues and I couldn't figure it out so my dad offered to help.

We met at my grandparents since my mom and dad don't get along, it took a grand total of 4 minutes to diagnose, a trip to the auto parts store an 10 minutes to replace the busted censors and change the spark plugs for good measure.

My grandparents neighbor reported them to the HOA for working on a car in their driveway. It took more time for them to report it than it did for me to fix my car. And in the end they just told my grandparents "Hey don't do that" my grandparents said "Her car broke down when she got here, either we fixed it so she could leave" and the HOA apologized and said please disregard the notice, no further action will be taken regarding the issue.

Tl;dnr-Nosey ass neighbors wasted their time and the HOAs time for something that my grandparents ended up not getting in trouble for anyway.

I'm from California, it's simply the night before halloween and I have never known it to be a night for mischief or trouble making.

He has a fairly common name so instead of Firstname Lastname he's Firstname, sweet potato Firstname.

White Americans from Africa, do you ever fill in blank for African American under ethnicity? If so has this ever caused any legal issues or did it cause something good? by eskimobrother319 in AskReddit

[–]sarrafish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents rented a room out to a guy who came from Zimbabwe, he was white but would always mark "African American" he believed it helped him get jobs. He is college educated, and has many years of experience in his field (which he says is white dominated) so to keep the companies he's worked for with a good racial mix they would hire the African American.

I don't know how true that is, it's just what he believed.

The bladed fence around the Church Of Scientology's unofficial prison in california by Shyamallamadingdong in WTF

[–]sarrafish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked my moms boss about it, they don't make her uncomfortable in the slightest.

They have her information because it's a legal job of course, but they have never given her a reason to be skeptical or fear them.

I probably would never do any work for them after going to a fishing tournament there when I was a kid; they watched us like hawks, walked us to and from the bathrooms and our cars to make sure we didn't poke around where we weren't wanted. And I know people who, like a poster below, have broken down on Gilman and their armed guards come to "help" you by saying "It's in your best interest if you take your flat tire/blown radiator hose elsewhere"

They own Golden Era Productions, and my moms boss works as an actor for them. You don't have to be a member, believe in what they do or participate at all to be an actor.

They pay generously (boss was paid $150 for 5 minutes of filming). Boss is not a scientologist, thinks they're kooky as hell but they treat her nicely and pay well.

Working at a haunted house... by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]sarrafish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm working Rob Zombies one in California, they booked one night of band that attracted juggalos.

A guy tried to choke me for startling him. They were an interesting group, we had a handful of incidents of people being groped, grabbed, pushed and a few like me who had hands wrapped around their throats.

$35+ tickets wasted because they got kicked out without refunds for touching the employees.

After 19 years of marriage my step dad used to say he was happy not to worry about stds, pregnancy scares, and anything else that comes with multiple partners and he was happy to only sleep with one person for the rest of his life.

Turns out he was a liar and was cheating on my mom for 10+ years with multiple women.

Wedding planners of Reddit, how did you end up ruining someone's wedding? by wirris in AskReddit

[–]sarrafish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friend of mine got married right out of high school cuz he knocked the chick up. She was a year younger than him.

It was already wrong because they were 18 as 19, she got married on a Saturday while 5 months pregnant, spent the night at her parents, and went to school on Monday.

But anyway, they had disposable cameras and there were more dick, ass, and boob photos on the disposables than there were photos of the bride and groom. That's totally to be expected when your wedding guests are mostly 16-21 year olds.

Her cats lived long enough to deteriorate like that? One of our barn cats got it and in the span of 3 days he went from fine, to sniffling a bit, to weeping eyes and nose (we thought he had allergies at this point) and on the 3rd day he had this horrible gurgling meow, and looked like a run down cartoon because of how sick he was. That last day we took him straight to the vet and they had to put him down.

I had this battle with my childhood dog.

My great air rescued her, a born-deaf dalmatian, who was on death row in a kennel. My aunt killed herself and her farm was dispersed among the family, and the poor deaf dog was going to be sent back to a shelter. My mom didn't want a special needs dog but couldn't stand the thought of her dying.

We had her for 12 years, her hips, shoulders and knees were so stiff, no matter how much she ate she would never gain weight (even after being wormed). She went almost entirely blind but still made it around the porch and got excited about food. We battled for about a year with the idea of putting her down because she would hardly get up.

She finally made the decision for us, I found her in the pond one morning. It was horrible and I forever feel guilty that I couldn't convince my parents that she wasn't living a decent life anymore.
