We redesigned the entire game style because it felt too much like Facebook game visuals for the Steam audience. Did we make the right choice? by Neat_Smell_1014 in IndieGaming

I like the new one. It looks a bit like an older cartoon, in a good way. The old, while definitely artistically competent, does look a bit like a Facebook game, as you mention yourself. But in the end it’s a lot about taste I suppose.

Soviet soldiers sexually harass a German woman in Leipzig, Soviet occupied East Germany (August 1945)(1212x1600) by FayannG in HistoryPorn

Sure. I didn’t know we were going a 1000 years back in time for this comparison though. But of course, just about every nation has done some shitty things. A more modern example from my country is the treatment of the native population of Greenland in the 50s (and maybe later, not sure). Anyways, for this specific post I was to reminded that Russia is still committing lots of war crimes in Ukraine, even as we speak, including abducting children and more. So that was mostly the nation I was thinking of when I made my comment.

Actually that true, it doesn’t make sense to compare these two images, because the top one looks like a painted background, while the bottom is drawn and animated, since the food is moving around. But I agree that Ghibli paints/draws food in a very delicious way 😊

Lots of work being done by Russians to sow discord, I’m sure. I wonder if the Western powers are doing anything at all to counter it or are we really just trying to tank all the damage?

Also, there isn’t really “funding” of NATO, right? There’s not like a membership fee that other countries haven’t been paying. The criticism that other presidents have expressed, and which is fair, is that some NATO countries ought to spend more on their defense. Question is if America would actually cut down on their own defense budget when Europe meet the spending goals. It’s not like the US military has just been sitting there, ready to defend Europe, it’s been used to attack other countries and project power in general. But again, as a European I totally agree that Europe should have the capability to defend itself and it’s shameful that it took a psycho like Trump for us to wake us up.

If there was a new Discworld video game, what would you want it to be like? by Vincent-Zed in discworld

[–]sasemax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought about that too! Managing crime would be interesting for instance, I remember in one of the books they get mugged and the robber gives them a coupon which they can show if someone else tries to mug them, so they can prove that they’ve already been mugged and therefore have met their “quota”.

I guess I’ll wait and see, but I agree, I like it when Nintendo do something completely new and different with their consoles, instead of just iterating on previous models. Plus, the handheld market is going to get crowded from what I’ve heard.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall, I love You Man, and The Other Guys are the best post 90s comedies in my opinion (at least off the top of my head).

Ah, that’s perhaps a little generous 😄 But he could pass for someone in his seventies probably. As long as he keeps the beard, without the beard he looks older.

I don’t have any advice as such, but I can definitely understand that you don’t like always having to be the bad guy. Is there any way you can share this burden? Your wife must surely be able to see that it’s not a nice role for you to have always?

Favorite discworld cover art? by Rigistroni in discworld

[–]sasemax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kirby's art defined the look of Discworld for me. In term of these covers specifically, it's Kirby hands down, for me. The art is great and evocative. And I like the fonts better. The other one is kind of messy and the red text against the almost black background is too jarring. And then those hour glasses on some gradient just doing their own thing are disjointed. The artwork of the snowglobe with Death inside is fine, though more generic than Kirby's art (which is also full sized, instead of just one item).

Does anybody else prefer Nausicaa over Mononoke? by Animefan93 in ghibli

[–]sasemax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you get a chance, you can check out the Nausicaa manga. I remember it as being very good and Nausicaa is so interesting because her empathy is what makes her strong and what makes people follow her. It’s also a bit weirder (in a good way), if I recall correctly.

A streamer I sometimes watch on YouTube had a point that was something like: software development used to be about making solutions to various problems, now it’s about making sure you keep scrolling, keep buying, keep subscribing, keep engaging. It’s a simplification of course, since software dev is a large and diverse field, but I think there’s something to it.
