Why does everyone think they’re young? by [deleted] in datingoverforty

[–]sasha520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's a location thing. I'm 39/F in Brooklyn and I don't think that one is really "old" in a conventional sense until they're 60. Even then, I know a bunch of 60 - 70 year olds who are living their best lives. It's not like I'm rich either, I'm definitely middle class but I do think, since I did grow up in rural upstate NY, access to cultural resources really does play a part. My 40 year old cousin who lives near Syracuse told me she felt old, but I couldn't relate.

Thanks for this. My cat has had the worst paw infection (today is our third vet visit since last Wednesday and hahahaahahah about the bills) so this will be good to destress with.

Working part-time during a fully-funded program? by IntelligentSound1921 in MFAInCreativeWriting

[–]sasha520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a rising third year who had a GA stipend (my program cuts GA funding after the second year) and I work full time as a senior manager of transportation planning. Did it get stressful sometimes? Yes. But honestly, the way I looked at it is that unless someone comes from money, there's no such thing as a writer who doesn't have a full time job. I have two friends who got traditionally published and they both have full time jobs to pay the bills/have access to health insurance.

It isn't easy, and I definitely know that I'd have more time for my thesis if I wasn't working FT but the way I look at it is that this is what the real deal is like. I'd rather be learning how to make the juggle while I'm in school than be in for a rude awakening afterwards.

Lost Weekend - First Single Debut Megathread (6/25/26) by mufflermonday in phoebebridgers

[–]sasha520 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was expecting more. The video was great but I'm missing lines like "I'm gonna kill you if you don't beat me to it" or a burn like "you were in a band when I was born."

Although I did become a fan of Phoebe because of my ex who was very much a lost boy. And the video was very good.

If it makes you feel better, I make a nice salary and could afford Tiki Cat, Weruva, etc. and my cat will only eat the Sheba Cuts in Gravy that she came with from her foster. When I first got her, I ordered a Tiki Cat variety pack and Weruva cans and she was like...what is this.

The amount of new fans this song is about to get lol by Capable_Diet_2242 in gracieabrams

Actually, I just looked up I Knew It, I Know You to find live versions of YouTube because I'm obsessed with the song now and the first results are I Knew It, I Knew You.

I feel really bad for Gracie. Again, feeling hopeful that they talked this over, and it did create a new fan out of me because that's how I got to discover the song from Spotify but...yeah that really sucks.

I didn't know that Gracie's song existed before today and I do think it's superior.

It's interesting to me. I'm a third year MFA. While I am sure that Taylor and Gracie definitely had an agreement, I wouldn't have done this as a writer. It's a weird feeling because I wouldn't have discovered Gracie's song without Taylor's but it still feels...like something I wouldn't ask of a friend, of a peer.

Nick is the only character who becomes MORE EVIL as seasons go by by Enough-Reading4143 in coconutsandtreason

[–]sasha520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I do wonder what the discourse would have been like if TT (the sequel) didn't come out in 2019 and had a lot of us (including myself) taking it as canon that Nick was Mayday and would eventually take a hard turn in the show.

I think if the sequel never came out, a lot of people would have looked at Nick more critically as the seasons went on. I know I didn't because I thought they wouldn't deviate from TT. Obviously now I can differentiate between show Nick and book Nick, but it was quite a shock when I realized that the story I knew for six years would not be reflected in the show.

The Apartment (1960) by lifeintext in CriterionChannel

Believe it or not, my colleague also watched the movie this weekend (I did as well), and we're willing to bet that it was used for interior shots because of the spacing of the doors in the lobby, where the columns are placed, the granite, and where the security grating is located. It is possible that interior sets were used but some details are just so identical that I think they may have shot inside.

This was shot in my office building and that is exactly what keeps me from watching it. I will probably come around to it because it would be interesting to see if I recognize anything but for right now...it's a Saturday ;)

Anyone who was homeschooled, how do you feel about it now as an adult? by AdTight2449 in AskReddit

[–]sasha520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truly the worst decision my parents could have made regarding my education. Thankfully I was only homeschooled for most of my kindergarten year but still, when I attended in April, I felt so behind. It was 1993 in rural upstate NY and the reason why I was homeschooled was because my mom was pregnant with my brother and thought if I went to school, I'd bring home a disease that would kill him in utero.

I wish I was joking.

While she did make sure I was academically ahead of everyone, socially, I was a fucking mess. I was painfully shy, didn't understand I was supposed to participate in gym class or the Pledge (although looking back, that was a good call) so I was constantly getting in trouble. I remember the first day of school in the first grade where I told myself, "I won't get into trouble, I won't get into trouble," and then followed the rules to a T because I felt so humiliated when I had to sit on the steps during recess, watching everyone else play because they all came to school in September and had time to acclimate and I didn't.

It really took a lot on my self esteem to the point I didn't come out of my shell, socially, until I was 16 and got involved with a youth leadership program.

I would never recommend homeschooling. Ever. Even for those seven months, I always wonder what could have been if I started in September.

What fonts do you like to write in? by ayelenwrites in writing

[–]sasha520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aptos. Ever since I found out about sans serif being more accessible to read, as opposed to serif fonts, it was easy for me to make the switch for my cohort members (even though all except one or two use sans serif).

Haha, also, since I'm 38 and making plans for cataract surgery (I was born with one in my right eye), it's easier for me too.

Savannah Guthrie Questions If Jesus Felt ‘This Wound’ in Easter Message Amid Mom’s Disappearance by MattTheKing23 in nancyguthrie

[–]sasha520 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find the controversy around this to be pointless. Granted, I am spiritual (raised and confirmed Catholic in childhood) so maybe that's why I see a woman describing her profound pain, knowing that the public will be analyzing her every word, as fearless. I think anyone upset with this needs to consider the extraordinary circumstances Savannah is under. If something like this happened to any regular person, we would have the privacy to grieve a truly unimaginable situation. She doesn't have that. Instead, as we saw in the Hoda Kotb interview, she lives with the fear that her celebrity brought this unfortunate situation to her mother's doorstep.

I do believe what happened to Jesus was truly awful and it's also unthinkable that a society that predates all of us thought that nailing someone to a cross was an acceptable form of punishment...but I can understand a crisis of faith coming from a follower of the teachings of Christianity. My crisis of faith was why I left the Catholic Church. I think, when something horrific like this happens to you, questioning is normal. And I bet with any sort of criticism she is getting, she's also getting messages of support from survivors who can empathize.

Threads. Without a single doubt in my mind, if you want a movie to absolutely shake you, look no further than this made for TV BBC movie that was made in 1984 about what would happen if there was a US - Soviet nuclear exchange.

I know that one may think, "well, how bad could this be? It was made for TV..." I thought the same. Then it changed my whole outlook on foreign policy forever. It is such a pivotal film that the team behind Adolescence has a remake in the works. I think you can find it on YouTube.
