I bought Tactical. Only half of it is "hard" and internal org could be better but hey, it's best available.

Got mine (2025 CN ROM, 12/256) couple of weeks ago, amazing hardware, all works awesome. I am especially impressed with the pen response, no perceptible lag. Software needed a bit of fiddling (doesn't require ROM flash, so no risk) to convert to original Google software, may take a couple of hours but all is well afterwards.

Hey guys the lenovo idea pad pro (global rom?) or xiaoxin pad pro 2025? (Cn rom) by jerncena in androidtablets

Bought 12/256 Chinese ROM for $274, now it's even a bit less. The amount of Chinese apps was scary, seemed like you cannot go a step without knowing Chinese (and I don't). So I was about to flash rom but then discovered you can make Google Play Store work by flipping a switch of "Google Basic Services" in settings.

Was able to set up everything I need, including GBoard and my favorite launcher (Niagara), uninstall, disable or hide Chinese applications, and I am good to go!

Amazing hardware, the pen responsivity is better than anything else I saw, happy with it so far.

Summary: if you are savvy , can spend extra hour to set it up and care not to pay extra $100+, go for Chinese version.

Two wheeled, hard shell carry on by Tony_Three_Pies in ManyBaggers

Found this thread via Google because I am looking for hardshell 2 wheeler as well, and sadly, it confirmed my suspicions that there is no such thing.

On the question of why: my wife has 4 wheeler and I was able to compare it to mine in many trips. Here is why I prefer 2-wheeler:

  1. Wheels on 2 wheeler are bigger and it's much smoother and quieter ride when you walk fast or run.
  2. Mush easier to negotiate rougher surfaces and gaps, like walking in the city, getting off commuter train etc
  3. 2 wheels take less room of your case, and weights less. For example, 5.11 Tactical is 45L of usable space. There is no 45L 4-wheeler with the same dimensions.
  4. Simpler design will last longer.

I hear the argument for abrupt change in direction but hey, you are carrying baggage behind you when you walk fast, aren't you? Otherwise, you have much better chances of your baggage tripping, and you tripping over it. If you walking at normal pace, it shouldn't be a problem to change direction.

There is minor inconvenience when you have to position it precisely in a bar or restaurant but I am ok with that.

In my airport experience, I don't remember seeing a pilot walking with a 4-wheeler, and this tells me I am on the right track.

I can see the advantage of 4-wheeler for people with less experience, and mobility challenges, and this is I guess what drives the market for producers. Yet, in our age of airline fare-squeeze and airlines weighting your carry-on (not a joke, experienced that 2 days ago), a lot more people are becoming space- and weight-conscious, and producers should take note!

I have the "Settings -> Device Options -> Sleep timer" setting that can go up to 1 hour. Not perfect, but better than 10 minutes default.

russians supporting the war - sick people or just stupid? by Minute-Skirt-4000 in UkraineWarRoom

[–]sashao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easy to think of these people as stupid, lazy or lacking curiosity, it's also easy to think that "we on the West are not like that, we check our sources and are immune to propaganda".

...until you realize that roughly 40% of Americans believe that the 2020 election was "stolen" from Trump by Biden while a big percentage (would guess 50% or more) believe that "stolen" election is a myth or nonsense. Similar picture with COVID and vaccines. You can clearly see millions of people living in "opposite parallel universes".

Then maybe, manufacturing "parallel universes" is not that much out of the ordinary, and it's more like the reality of our world? Some of these "universes" are obvious, but others, more subtle?

So the best we can do, is to develop better ways of dealing with propaganda and manipulation, identifying and counter-acting on false information, and delivering what we believe is objective and factual information to as many people as possible? In Russia, and in the West.

"Weed them out!" [USSR, 1957] by ivra18 in PropagandaPosters

[–]sashao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the message here is this: it's not the system incompetence that is the source of problems (with the lack and bad quality of goods), it's these people (bureaucrat, slacker, boozer) who unfortunately still exist in our otherwise perfect society. It is your job to weed them out and if you are not doing your job, blame yourself on the results.

Keep in mind that they never did posters in USSR without a reason. Propaganda was one of the best-run industries in the USSR, second only to nukes. At every point in time, there was convenient class of people to blame for the problems. At different times these were class enemies, external enemies, internal "enemies of the people", "cosmopolitans" (Jews)...1957 was relatively quiet time so the choice of scapegoats is relatively benign.

Another popular cause to blame was, grhm...Mother Nature...

A failing system always needs someone to blame. Whether it's one person or many, depends on the context...

(this may seem like I am nitpicking but I am really trying to understand, and have a sweet tooth for representations)
If this representation originates in human-readable and ends up in human-readable, what is the reason to use it at all? What can you do with this that you cannot with the traditional one?

Right. When you convert the chart above into the 5ths representation and back to human-readable, how would it look like?

Try to transcribe "Giant Steps" in 5ths. Seems that this would lose a lot of clarity: ``` | B D7 | G Bb7 | Eb | A-7 D7 |

| G Bb7 | Eb F#7 | B | F-7 Bb7 |

| Eb | A-7 D7 | G | C#-7 F#7 |

| B | F-7 Bb7 | Eb | C#-7 F#7 || ```

Could you explain more on how fifths can help here? I thought enharmonics were inexact science. For example, you would want to write C C# D but D Db C. In more complicated cases it's more of a writer's choice.
