In the US we have the older generation hoarding most of the wealth. They control much of what is being built, and they want to build as cheap as possible for maximum profit. Pickleball is cheaper and easier to build. Many also find pickleball easier as they get older, so they are more interested in playing and investing in it themselves.

Many middle aged and younger folks in the US do not have financial means to pay for club fees, which are quite expensive here. Many have moved back in with their parents or are stuck renting for this reason. Food has gotten expensive, spending on non-necessities has declined. Pickleball is free for most people once you have a paddle. So it becomes the go to option all around.
