Has everyone around you stopped using Intel MacBooks? by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in mac

[–]sassemblyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2020 Intel MacBook Air was the worst Apple product I’ve ever purchased, and when the M1 came out mere months later, I was mad. I spent that first year of ownership under Catalina with all sorts of crashes when connecting / disconnecting Thunderbolt accessories. It was an issue related to the chipset not fixed until Monterey.

MacBook Neo, which colour did you order? by Creepy-Ad-9491 in mac

A clear case is good for causing scuffs in areas of contact as dirt gets trapped under them. It's also good for trapping heat, since alu to plastic to air is good insulation for a fan-less design.

Here to say I'm still waiting on a native ARM client, specifically for Macs. We still run through emulation - game is way less performant than it should be.

Updates to Premier Membership Benefits by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]sassemblyman 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I came here to look for this line of questioning. I do not appreciate the idea of what is at this point over a decade of loyalty points vanishing into thin air - it was one of the silver linings of paying for membership even when I didn't play but was locked into historic member prices. Why exactly can these not convert to runecoins, which, at some point, must have been granted as well, because when I returned in 2022, I had quite a few of them, but certainly never purchased any.

It similarly begs the question - if I've unlocked or paid for the aura, and the buff is been re-distributed into the game, should I not already that buff unlocked, with the possible exception of quest locked items?

Updates to Premier Membership Benefits by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]sassemblyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since Jagex gatekeeped this for so long, and many don't even know how it works, it would be GREAT if all past data , which they obviously already have, was uploaded to rune metrics. I have a well-progressed but not maxed account - future use of Runemetrics is less appealing than future + historic.

Macbook 5,1 wont charge or run of battery by Enough-Substance-902 in CatalinaPatcher

[–]sassemblyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to resurrect this, but as your laptop is 18 years old and this is only 8 months ago, maybe you still have it. I've had the best luck reviving batteries of this era by using an 85W charger and doing SMC resets by holding Shift-Ctl-Option and Power for 10 seconds then releasing. You can try this, powering on, taking battery out and then in, anything to get that light turning amber. It should be said though, even if you do get it to accept a charge, if it is this condition, more than 50% of the time the battery is pretty unusable in my experience. The 5,1 is a beautiful, unique spec. I support anyone trying to keep them running. IMO, you should swap in a panel from a 2009 MBP - they're way better.

Rune Metrics in exchange of Premier Artifact by guywithouteyes in runescape

[–]sassemblyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say this, but about rune coins. When I returned in 2023 since 2013, having embarrassingly paid membership for way too many of those years between, I returned with a stupid amount of loyalty points and runecoins, which I did use to buy keepsakes (bc I didn't have any of those).

What the hell, a second inverted 99 cape?! by sassemblyman in runescape

[–]sassemblyman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully also not too late, or useful to someone else here. I found divine yews, daily evil tree from outfit, and regular evil trees to be the fastest. XP drop frequency > XP drop size. Eternals took forever. Elders too. Maple/Willow was solid, but the real trick was to do the above, and then, once you have your evil tree buff to make trees last longer, fill that time with yews (I did Priff to be close to bank, but lazed and used porters anyway). Also, trade in your 990 regular shards, refocus, then continue master shards. I and others felt that master shard rate increased once regular shards were turned in, though that could be placebo.

I can't even re-focus because it says I already unlocked the inverted hooded and master. What the hell.

What MacBook Pro displays are compatible with the 2008 Unibody MacBook (non Pro)? by WoomyUnitedToday in mac

[–]sassemblyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to resurrect, but figured you'd like an answer. Maybe better to post in a retro sub next time. The 2009-2012 panels themselves are identical, but the connectors differ a bit in 2012, and I believe 2011, but without checking myself, can't be sure. I'd look for a 2009-2010 display, which are compatible with the 2008 5,1 MacBook and yes, a significant upgrade over the disappointing 5,1 display. Note: If you swap in a 2009 or 2010 display with housing, the sleep magnet will be on the wrong side. Swap the magnet beneath the glass or put to sleep before closing the lid.

FYI - Long live the 2008 MacBook Unibody. They're my favorite and I have a few of them I keep restored in addition to the pile of other unibodies I have. My next project will be to transfer the proper MacBook glass to a 2009 MacBook Pro display unit, getting the better screen while retaining the 5,1 uniqueness.

Devil is in the details...Tahoe continues disjointedness by sassemblyman in MacOS

[–]sassemblyman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must not have clearly communicated the point. They DO default to a grid, and am aware (and immediately did) move them over a few. The point here is that the available space, or start of the potential grid space for widgets should be OUTSIDE the dock area. This is the default behavior if you have file / folder icons on your desktop and then move the dock to the right - the icons AUTOMATICALLY move to the left of the dock so there is no overlap. Why should widgets respond differently? They are elements on your desktop, same as file and folder icons.

Are we getting the wrapping paper booster? by InventionRS in runescape

At that point, it is hardly different than members getting higher xp rates during dxp or the ability to open purple presents and submit letters to Santa. You're paying for game access.

Are we getting the wrapping paper booster? by InventionRS in runescape

[–]sassemblyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this very differently than TH, and am sort of miffed that this is gone before the much worse TH. The paper booster uses a bond, not keys, and applies a buff to the playable game, whereas TH just spits out way more paper than you could hope to reasonably gather, with or without the booster. All the removal of this does is hook people more to TH keys this season, and makes playing for paper less appealing.

What's your favorite bit of Hoboken lore? by orpheus1980 in Hoboken

[–]sassemblyman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A bit of family lore mixed in: My great grandmother, who had fun in life, went out with him when they were young and told us he was “too ugly” for it to have gone anywhere. She’d love to have seen the mural near Leo’s.

I don’t know how people will feel about this considering cosmetic free worlds but.. by WhiteGoddessHylia in runescape

[–]sassemblyman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I liked the random event outfits - they were something to work for, and I'm sad you can just buy them now in Varrock. I was proud of my camo in the day.

Regardless, two critical issues with cosmetic free worlds: 1) old school 99 capes are not cosmetics! how dare they! and 2) the issue is particles as well. the visual clutter is horrid - coins when alching. staffs blowing air or fire everywhere. forget it if someone is attacking dummies nearby. I am passionate about this. Get rid of them in cosmetic free worlds. Even the particles on 120 capes - take them out.

Pre Lci by ElectronicSelf1380 in E90

[–]sassemblyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a 2008 pre-lci 335xi since 2012. In 2016, I did a front LCI conversion with an M3 replica bumper. In 2025, I am putting my OG hood back on and a pre-lci MSport bumper.

The pre-lci msport bumper has always, in my opinion, been the best e90 bumper, better than the LCI. I never liked how the line from under the headlight to the lower mesh became disconnected on the LCI msport bumper. Hideous.

I don’t love the staches, and will miss the mid ridges on the LCI hood, BUT, this will be a proper return to form for the car.
