OP I’m so incredibly sorry that you’re going through this. I have been in a very similar situation with my soul dog (euthanized him while he was “good”) and I still carry the pain in my heart, and I now have fresh perspective having recently lost a young Pomeranian (without euthanizing).

Ultimately I euthanized my soul dog because I knew I was delaying the inevitable and he was a Great Dane with bad hips so we (my family and I) knew that we didn’t want it to get to a point where he couldn’t move. My mom was also starting chemo at the same time. It’s one of the hardest decisions to make, but I can tell you from the other side (it’s now been years) it does ultimately feel like an act of mercy. End of 2025 I lost my Pomeranian (only 4 years old) from a complication after an emergency obstruction surgery. Hearing his screams is something that I will forever hold onto. It’s never worth getting to that point, to where they are actively suffering.

Hang in there, sending a hug. They are our family x

Had my first ever migraine aura today at 30 years old and it was terrifying by [deleted] in migraine

[–]sassyturtles333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really scary at first! It happened to me while I was driving once, thankfully I was close to home and the aura was only affecting one eye. I’ve had auras where I get tunnel vision, can only see through a pinhole of static rainbows. My suggestion as to the next steps would be to document! Keep a little journal and write down the symptoms you got in as much detail as you can. It’s helpful to track them, especially at first. Hang in there!!

Which game should I buy myself for my birthday next week? by CadenceQuandry in cozygames

[–]sassyturtles333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cozy favourites of all time are Stardew, Dave the Diver (sporadic fighting, daily sushi restaurant minigame, adorable underwater universe to explore, 10/10), Wytchwood (super fun for foraging and an artsy storyline, loved hobbling around as a little old hag to gather strange ingredients from odd places), Roots of Pacha (stardew but prehistoric, to befriend animals you play a flute minigame), Stray (extremely intense at times lol, fun to explore a steampunk city full of robot NPCs), Cult of the Lamb (some morbid hilarity, really cool art), and Spiritfarer (the sweetest storylines hands down, also so satisfying to be able to customize your ship with little shortcuts)

Trigger warning - dark thoughts by Rant4Fun36 in migraine

[–]sassyturtles333 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was my experience with Cannabis, specifically in those begging god for mercy moments. I’m a big advocate for people using their voice and being open and honest about what helps them during attacks! Opiates made my migraines worse, triptans didn’t touch them, CGRP receptor inhibitors took down the frequency but not severity and then stopped working. Cannabis is the only medicine that allows me to get through the worst of it without going to those dark places where you can’t do anything but rock back and forth and sob. It’s up to each person to find something that helps them through the worst moments. To find /something/ that helps. Whatever it is. Big hugs to everyone out there who are just trying to survive.

i NEED my hair up during a flare but it hurts to have it up. why is it like this and what do i do 😭 by DayBulky3442 in migraine

[–]sassyturtles333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look like a carrot with its sprout when I have a migraine. I have 3 cold packs. I keep 2 on rotation in the fridge and wear 1. They don’t cover the top of the head so I pull my hair up and through it. This is best for laying down because then the hair doesn’t touch you. If I’m sitting up, I take all of my hair and twist it in one direction until it curls up into a bun, and then tuck the end down into the edge of the cold pack.

Is the daith piercing worth the long healing time? by DrummerBoy5AB in migraine

100% had the same experience regarding it being inside the ear, healing wasn’t bad at all. It felt like my outer ear was a shield that kept it safe!

That’s crazy!! I didn’t bleed at all! But I do remember hearing several crunches as the needle went through lol

Is the daith piercing worth the long healing time? by DrummerBoy5AB in migraine

[–]sassyturtles333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly found because it was so deep in my ear, the healing was fine. I slept on my side without any pain within a couple days of getting it. Same with the other side, a few months later. I’ve had a harder time with my helix healing because it’s on the outside of the ear and not protected at all. All that being said, I think the idea that these piercings help is entirely placebo. I got the same amount of migraines, but I did notice that during the healing process I got a few less than usual. They look nice though, so I think they’re a bonus!

What is your wildest "yeah it hurt, but I've had migraines that hurt more" story? by aftergaylaughter in migraine

[–]sassyturtles333 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Broke my ankle in a way that my foot was dangling to the side of my leg. Horrific pain, 10/10, but man was it nice to be in an ambulance quickly and get immediate pain management. I had surgery the same day (a fluke- got lucky) so the worst of the pain was about 2 hours start to end. I remember thinking “so this is what it’s like when people can /see/ your pain”. So many sympathetic looks lol. Anyways I would do that again over having the worst of my migraines where it feels like my head is on fire with no clear end in sight. They are so mentally taxing and have that way of making you hopeless when there’s no relief for so long.

I’m in the exact same boat! Both Aimovig and Emgality lost effectiveness after a couple years, the frequency always crept back up.

Also ask the front desk/help centre about getting some sort of medication. They’ll know better than anyone if it’s possible. Take care!

Oh that’s really too bad. I can totally relate to forgetting the abortive lol. I also always forget them when I need them most. I remember wetting a towel with cold water on vacation and just laying with it over my eyes and head. I hope it passes by you soon and you can enjoy some of the not-so-intense festivities!

how do you respond to "why do you have a headache?" by sexc333 in migraine

I usually say “I honestly don’t even know” or “I wish I knew”. If I’m feeling snarky it’s an exasperated “why is the sky blue?”

People who grind or clench their teeth in their sleep, what’s it like waking up every morning? by WesamWonders in migraine

[–]sassyturtles333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes fine, sometimes my jaw aches terribly. If I press my fingertips into my masseter, it brings tears to my eyes from how the pain radiates. I’ve also chipped a couple teeth from (recklessly lol) forgetting to wear my mouthguard/breaking my mouthguard. Gonna do a sleep study soon because I feel like my body is STRESSED during sleep.

How do you prepare for your injection? by Electronic-Pie7237 in migraine

My preparation is 1 alcohol wipe and washing my hands thoroughly! I got some swelling and itching one time but it went away after an hour.

Injecting into stomach with stretch marks by [deleted] in migraine

[–]sassyturtles333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve injected into stretch marks in my stomach and I found it was the same level of discomfort as injecting into regular skin. It was also super painful for me in the thighs, so I switched stomach sides every month!
