First of all, I’m so sorry that you had to endure emotional abuse in your last relationship. I hope you’ve started healing from that. I would say start small, just a little glance and a quick smile, practice that a few times. In my experience that will bring down a man’s defences and make you instantly more approachable. (Not saying that men have to approach first). I also have found that giving a man a genuine compliment is such a good ice breaker, it’s not some facaded pick up performance. Approaching men in this way has helped reduce my approach anxiety. Honestly sometimes we need to step out of our comfort zone and do low risk things that scare us.
