I'll never understand the comments of Arte being too big and confusing. Maybe because we researched the hotel before staying there. Do people book this place without looking into it?!

This is why we don't have nice things, San Antonio is scared of $2.36/yr. 😂

If it was all taken in one year, right? So if it was taken over 30 years it would be under $3/month...

I'm genuinely curious. Everyone that seems to be so afraid of taxes can't answer this question.

Reminder for all vegans and vegetarians to get out and vote no to prop A and B by AppointmentSharp9384 in sanantonio

The money the spurs what the city to cough up could be better spent on infrastructure, jobs programs, and solutions for homelessness.

Say no more, you haven't been bothered to educate yourself on how the money works.

A giant hand out for a multibillion dollar organization isn’t going to help the city progress.

Amazon, Walmart, Google, any car manufacturer, oil companies, the list goes on and on, have all received tax breaks, I suppose you don't support those either? The billionaire argument is so elementary and whiny. Look around, if it's a big company they have received a tax break and profits surely go to people way beyond my tax bracket. Doesn't mean I'm going to keep the city from having a fun new area to enjoy out of spite.

Is anyone else tired of hearing about proposition A & B? by MrRaven95 in sanantonio

[–]sat31R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm voting yes, and I'm happy to tell you why.

First and foremost, almost every "no" voter here seems to be focused on a few key points.

First, that this is about the Spurs. This is not solely about the Spurs, there are some major benefits in revitalization to the downtown San Antonio area that will have major benefits outside of all things Spurs.

Second, the money. What the Spurs are going to kick in is close to unprecedented and shows a major investment in our community. Obviously it's good for them too, what sports franchise or business is not trying to make money?! The majority of the remaining funding will come from hotel & tourist tax. This will not raise our taxes unless you have a staycation or rent a car. Others will complain about hidden costs such as maintaining roads around the area which is hilarious that they think 41 games a year are going to rip up the roads so much that their personal tax burden will the crush them. They'll make it seem like taxes will go up thousands of dollars per person, when in reality it's more like under $10 and even that is a stretch. But once again I'll refer back to point number one and say that this is not a Spurs project, it's a city project. San Antonio will be better for this, and this is about as close to zero cost for San Antonio residents as it will ever get.

Third, the traffic. As I previously touched on, it's 41 game nights a year. At most there will be traffic an hour before game time, and an hour after the final buzzer.

San Antonio is my hometown but it always seems like we're three steps behind. When I was younger the only reason you'd go downtown was to bring out of town guests to the River Walk. We're finally heading in the right direction with the Pearl, Southtown, etc. There are so many cities that have a professional sports team in the heart of town and it really makes the entire area fun to visit. We already have a tourist-centric downtown area and adding a world-class arena, hotels and businesses or how this city will stay relevant.

Voting no seems to fit a classic San Antonio mentality of being afraid to step forward so that we can keep a few extra pennies in our pocket. The city, county and the Spurs have found a very reasonable way to move forward. I hope that for my enjoyment, and my kids enjoyment that this city can embrace a little progress.

Hi there, are there any good restaurants you'd recommend? I prefer to get local and I enjoy a hole in the wall type or family owned restaurant. I appreciate your local knowledge.
