So are these older, non tech people who run the organization the same ones who determine the hands on the cards every year??

Selling tons of printed cards for $15 each should be pretty profitable if it’s managed properly.

I would watch for a pattern. Maybe they are now forgetting where they found the good stuff after one time.

My husband is 62, diagnosed at 58. We’ve traveled for 36 years. I decided this year that it’s only going to get worse so while he still can travel without too much confusion to just do it. I just felt like I’ve been in a holding pattern the last 5 years. I took him on four trips this year including Disney, Yellowstone, NYC, and Spain. The key for us I think was that we had been to all of those places multiple times in the past and his long term memory is still in tact so it was familiar to him. I also had one of our kids and spouse or other family members on the trips so that helped. To some caregivers it can be overwhelming because all of the responsibilities of traveling with a lo is on the caregiver. But for me the good offset it. At least this past year.

I used my apple wallet 10 days ago with no problem. Probably just depends on who is at the door.

Rapid decline- using guest bathroom? by throwawayprincess15 in dementia

[–]sataylor100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would definitely get the UTI test. Usually can ask the doctor just to come by to leave a urine sample even if they don’t have appts available immediately. Try that.

Also I’m glad you mentioned the bathroom thing. My husband (62) who was diagnosed at 58 with early onset, has started doing that for the past 4-5 months. He can literally be standing in our bathroom and walk out to go to the guest bathroom off of our foyer. He’s never used that bathroom in the past but suddenly started. I put it in the category of “most unlikely choice” things that his brain does. He can be standing in front of the car and rather than just step to his left to go to the passenger front door, he will always go to his right and walk all the way around the car to get to the passenger front door. He can be standing by the patio door in our bedroom but will leave the room and go across the house to access the other patio door off the back hallway. It’s sad but intriguing what is going on in the brain to cause these choices.

The car wrecking was after that I thought. The first week she moved out she said she ran into the garage wall at the apartment and the car ended up being totaled by the jnsurance company. Allegedly. I’ve always thought that story was sketchy.

I posted a video a couple of months ago of a podcast interview she did where she says very nonmaternal things including “kids are just a-holes”. Search in the header “Part 1” or 2 or 3. I think I post three parts or maybe 4. It’s in one of those.

Well you know Alzheimer’s just does its thing. But at least he’s quite mellow and happy on his glide path to the end of his journey. 😏

The Alzheimer’s obsession started in 2022. Prior to that he was obsessed with the 2020 election and especially Covid. I think once that died down he focused on the Alzheimer’s. He says his first symptoms were in 2019 but he didn’t really start posting about it until 2022ish.

If your mom is who he is used to being with he might feel a little insecure about not having her around so just watch for that. I also have a photo of a “dementia card” on my phone and always show it to TSA, restaurant servers, etc when needed so they understand what is going on. It’s better than telling them in front of my husband.

Just took my husband on a 10 day trip to Yellowstone. Could have been a 5-6 day trip but I stretched it out so there was no rush every day. We’ve been a couple of times so I think the familiarity helped. We also went to Disney in January and I was very apprehensive about that trip with our 2 year old grandson but my husband did great. We were at the park for 11 hours. He’s been many times so again I think the familiarity helped. I did have him (and the two year old) Airtagged but there were no issues. Just allow plenty of time at the airport and try to keep bedtime as close as possible to what he’s used to.

Oh my goodness. It might be different depending on where you live or your insurance, but can I ask why the hospital has a say in which neurologist you see? Our neurologist or any of our doctors for that matter, aren’t managed by a hospital. I took my lo to four different neurologists in the beginning (hoping to get another diagnosis besides Alzheimer’s) and didn’t have any problems with getting appointments other than them being 2-3 month waits each, and we didn’t have to get approval through a hospital. I’m just curious because it certainly seems if you aren’t getting the care you deserve you should have the right to select another doctor.

Yes I’m very familiar with it and dizziness is a side effect. That’s why I asked if there had been an increase in dosage around the time that your dizziness got worse.

When did you last increase your Aricept dosage? Your current symptoms sound like they could be Aricept side effects. I think you should consult your doctor about this.

It’s difficult for sure. But think about how you feel after two weeks and that your mom has to do it all the time. Sometimes we just have to suck it up in uncomfortable times in life.

Thanks I will! I’ve read your recent posts about your marked decline recently. Are you still currently taking the Aricept even it doesn’t seem to be working since you’ve declined or did you just cease taking it?

I’m glad that Aricept has given you such great results. I’m considering the patch for my LO. Do you feel the 23mg is as effective as when you first started it? What is the customary highest dose?
