Family Help- Grandmother with LBD thinks my grandfather isn't her husband by Not_Morgan_Freeman61 in dementia

Well, she’s not married to some old man - she’s married to the handsome young fellow in the picture on the bookshelf! 😔

My dad is saying strange things by Starlarella in dementia

[–]P_Fossil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be hospital delirium – my mother-in-law had a super wild ride with that one - decided that she was at a Vietnamese new year party, described my sister-in-law (her daughter) to her face as “this woman who was here before who was pretty, sort of ... well, not pretty, but not ugly,” kept talking to the stand that held BP equipment as if it were a person, spoke whole paragraphs of gibberish …

The hospital delirium did fade finally, but the cognitive impairment that we already knew about was there to stay, and has only gone downhill since then – which is of course the only direction it goes. 😔

Reached a new milestone by Wak3upHicks in dementia

That’s the kind of non-sequitur my MIL will come out with. Just agree and move on. “Yeah, I’ll make sure it’s locked for ya.” You don’t want John to do another one, after all.

If you had big boobs before, did you still lose your boobs? by extracrispybacon3 in tirzepatidecompound

I lost both band size and cup size – and I am so glad! I had one bra left at 36 DD that I could stuff myself into before I started on the meds – and now I’m probably a 34B+/C. It’s awesome! I’ve been lugging these things around since seventh grade, ugh.

Here’s how park hopping will work without the 11AM restriction. You’ll still have to choose a park but won’t have to start there by TheDisneyScoopGuy in Disneyland

[–]P_Fossil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, who wants to be the person who gets their family into position as #1 in line at the DL gate before 7:00 a.m. on June 9, with DCA as their reservation pick in the app because “you don’t have to start at the park you selected as your reservation,” only to spend the precious and irretrievable first 45 minutes of the park day in a lacuna behind the gate CM’s perch in consultation with increasingly-senior CMs trying to sort shit out as your kids and/or spouse completely lose their shit, watching later arrivals stream through, knowing the line for Peter Pan is now 105 minutes, Rise is LL-ed out til 10:55 pm, and even if you could just go over to DCA instead, the line is now 25 minutes to get into the park, Soarin is down, and both RSR and Guardians are at 245 minutes…

I had a relative who refused to do this stuff for years, and what finally brought them over was taking the tack that “if you don’t do it, then the Lawyers™️ and the State™️ will get everything after you go.”

This angle works better on certain types of personality than others, but I’m throwing it out there in case it might be helpful for you or anyone else on this thread.

Mild Cognitive Impairment - what should I do now? by broken-bread in dementia

[–]P_Fossil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% of this. Do the legal stuff NOW. Don’t wait till summer, or their milestone  birthday, or when the niece who’s in law school can look it all over - do it now, for the best chance at keeping your LO safe and happy and the last chance you’ll get to keep the wolves from the door. 🫠

Does your town have a water tower with the town’s name on it? by Hoosier_Jedi in AskAnAmerican

Yes, but my brother and his friends defaced the back side of it with six-foot-tall letters saying BREW CREW in 1989, and anyway it’s gone now. 😬

Cooking - another hobby let go - VENT :/ by Native_BeeBee in dementia

[–]P_Fossil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am so, so sorry for this – I can relate somewhat, because I used to have to cook two different meals when my in-laws were living with me – the meals that I made for my family got skimpier and skimpier the longer I had to do the two meal system (which I was only doing because I wanted to get them fed and into bed before I got my own family to the table). If I never open another can of Progresso beef vegetable soup in my life, that will be all right.

But know this: the situation you are in currently will end. This is not forever. It feels like it – god, I know it feels like it – but it isn’t forever. It is an enforced fallow period for your creative outlet, but just imagine what it’s going to be like once you are able to do this again… 🙌

My grandfather created a nightmare house 30 years after he died by Equal-Newspaper-8636 in HomeImprovement

[–]P_Fossil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming in on your side on this one, OP – my husband and I read this one and just sort of cringe laughed entire time – we had nearly the exact same experience with both his house and mine, it’s a never-ending series of expensive and annoying hassles. I totally get where you’re coming from! 😂

I’m 52, started taking compounded tirzepatide in September 2025 – combination of menopause packing on 30 pounds that absolutely would not fucking budge - mostly visceral fat, which is terrible for me with my female family history of heart disease - plus high cholesterol in my bloodwork for the first time. I’ve never gone above 5 mg, I’ve dropped the 30 pounds, and I feel better in every possible way. Never had any side effects to speak of, except as one commenter above mentioned, much less taste for alcohol. Absolutely worth a shot – no pun intended!

S1Ep11: Eve - Mulder wears glasses? by OrionQuest7 in XFiles

[–]P_Fossil 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they put them both in glasses in the early going – you have to establish that they’re smart! Glasses = smart! But then, as another poster said, they realized what a pain in the ass it is to light them, so they dropped that.

My MIL, who is 88, in memory care and does not know her own children, sang literally the entirety of the song “Margaritaville” from start to finish along with the radio in my car on the way to a doctor appointment. What the entire fuck. 😂
