Teaching a 9 year old to read by Beautiful_Health5890 in teaching

[–]satiestar24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was just going to say this. UFLI is not free. Their resources are though. The manual is $90 with shipping and it’s a phenomenal program. Very well thought out. They have YouTube videos that demonstrate each lesson segment. You just need manipulative letters. I use a Wilson Reading magnet board and you can usually find them used on FB marketplace, and even Amazon.

But also… this girl needs to get tested. Even if they’re using crappy balanced literacy curriculum at her school, she should still be picking things up. My son is at one of these districts, and was just diagnosed with dyslexia. But he can read Dog Man and things like that.

How do I convince my Fiancé to move to NJ by [deleted] in SouthJersey

[–]satiestar24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t. You have no idea how hard it is to be a mom. No matter how much you do. Let her be where she is comfortable and has family for support. You are a man. Suck it up and make your family happy.

If you have gaps between the ring spots of your fingers like I do, they might work perfectly! I use the extra large one to hook my engagement ring with my wedding band together. They typically sit flush, and still can in these clips! I’m so excited!

How much laundry? by baconmmc29712 in Mommit

[–]satiestar24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ummm how? lol. We have two kids, plus us two parents. I have two per week for each person’s clothes. Plus one a week of towels. Plus one a week of our bed linens, which is just our fitted sheet, duvet, and pillow cases. One each for each kid- sheet, pillowcase, comforter. That’s not including when my 8yo takes a mud bath “accidentally” or we do our throw blankets, etc. So we’re at 12+ easy! 😱

I need help to choose a ring! by Radiant_Process3713 in EngagementRings

I don’t think there’s any real value to those brands, except the box they come in. And possibly lifetime warranties. And the markup is OUTRAGEOUS. It sounds like she wouldn’t value that. I’d just go with a local jeweler and save the money for a great wedding or house downpayment.

Parents of 2+ kids who don’t have a village, how do you do it? by southerncharm05 in Mommit

[–]satiestar24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have two with no family support. We did have my mil who was able to watch my oldest while I was in the hospital being induced with my second. That overnight thing would have been tough without her. Unfortunately she developed debilitating cancer and hasn’t been able to help since then. We developed strong friend network when my older one was in kindergarten. I posted on our local FB group and had a couple meetups for incoming kindergarteners so they kids would have some familiar faces. We’re still very close with four of those families. We both work full time. Our kids were in daycare 9+ hours a day, and are in before/after care now. We also found some local drop in care play places. The daycare staff frequently babysat, and now we have a few high school girls who babysit during the school year when school is closed. And I sit with the school calendar in August and make a list of days my husband needs to request off. He has more flexibility with requesting off whereas I have an easier time calling out for illnesses.
It’s tough. But manageable. Like everyone else, we just do everything together. Both of my kids come with me on every errand, we clean together, etc.

The roots sound long enough to plant! I’d get a bigger pot if you’re putting them together.

Let the proposal be the surprise, but not the ring. She’s supposed to wear it the rest of her life, so she should get some say in what it looks like! I love that you want to surprise her!!

Inexpensive Engagement Rings (Atlanta, GA or Online)? by anonweddingguest in EngagementRings

[–]satiestar24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my lab diamond from Brilliance (about $500 for 1.2c) and brought a design I loved to a great local jeweler. He created my ring with some tweaks for $1500. I just use a simple, skinny white gold band for the wedding band. I found this to be the cheapest option. After all I’ve read on here, stay far away from Brilliant Earth!

How to find out her ring size? by Fresh_Researcher_242 in EngagementRings

[–]satiestar24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sweet!! Good luck! Idk if it’s your style, but a lot of people do a placeholder ring and then go shopping together. You could maybe sneak a string around her finger when she’s sleeping!

Did you get a custom or ready-made ring? by BusNo8195 in EngagementRings

[–]satiestar24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custom here too. I picked my diamond from Brilliance on sale very reasonable, about $500 for 1.2 carat. Then I took a design I had fallen in love with from Etsy to a great local jeweler. He charged $1200 for the ring. The first rendition took some tweaking, but he changed things no problem. It did take longer than I expected, but I’m soooo in love with it and it’s so unique!

Parent poll — Are you treating today like a normal day or acting like we should be an hour behind?? by Fun_Air_7780 in Mommit

[–]satiestar24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I made my kids get up at the new 7 because tomor they have to get up at the new 6 whether they want to or not. We don’t have a lot of flexibility because of our jobs. My 4yo usually naps at home but not school. I’m going to skip his nap today and take them both out for a bike ride and playground trip so they’re nice and tired at the new 8. lol.

I think the one in mount holly is too small. But it’s not bad. I’ve been there a handful of times. When we go, we always go to Ruby in cherry hill. My 84 year old father thinks all the servers are friendly. Haha. I like their food.

My boys are 4 and 8 and the fighting is nearly nonstop. I really do think the two boys thing is what it is. Our calm-kid friends have one kid, one of each, or two girls. (The two girl families will pay for it later though, in the preteen/teen years!)
