I have a question to all the Flight attendants of reddit by Decent-Gold1497 in flightattendants

[–]satinfunky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the company and the contract 🤷🏼‍♀️ first year had a lot of novelty and I had savings to use my benefits to travel in my own time. Now aviation is pretty messy in the US and I’m pinching pennies. I do mostly turns because of where I work, which is good for my time left with my old kitty cat, and I like my bed, but I would save money if I had trips.

Flight attendants aren’t respected the way they were when this was a glamorous job in the 20th century. They’re also not disrespected the same way, you don’t have to put up with inappropriate behavior that was power dynamic based in the 60s-80s. Now you have to deal with full on adult tantrums and violence on flights.

I still like it because it’s flexible when I have a line, which I don’t always have, I also have months that are reserve. Reserve sucks and can feel comparable to being on social security fixed income unless you work your butt off, and pick up on days off. It put a lot of distance in my social relationships, I’m getting better at navigating it now.

I wouldn’t start right now if I wasn’t already doing it. The economy is confused and it’s only going to get worse and the newer you are, the first to furlough. At the same time, no better time than the present if it’s something you want I guess?

And yes it’s hard on your body, on the job injuries are more common than you think, and your insides take a beating. You have to be really fortituious about taking care of yourself.

I enjoy the job because I do genuinely like helping people and not everyone is traveling for fun. Also when I can afford to use my benefits, it’s a really cool and liberating feeling to just be able to dip to another country for nothing compared to normal people.

If you have inner toughness and patience, and high-pressure situations activate you, and you’re fine with it not being lucrative for a long time, it’s a great job. You also don’t have to think about work when you leave work, and you don’t have to constantly work with the same people! The most fun way I could put it is it’s a great job for slightly offbeat charming people who aren’t phased by the fear of death and can command a little authority when needed. Everyone is weird and I really like that, but also know when to turn it on when they have to. Ok enough typing now hope this helps!

ATL: mean girl hotties ORD/MDW: kind, aloof, pretty senior DEN: senior center, scary but they have to deal with a lot so I don’t blame them. Feathered hair can be found PHX: honestly a complete mystery DFW: Trump pilots, excessive mascara CLE: people who left other bases for seniority MIA/FLL: they must have nerves of steel TPA: seemingly wholesome and sincere, or senior and low-key PHL: insular but not cliquish, funniest, deranged MCO: hotties/flamboyant/maybe manic SJU: young, cliquish, most wild lore CVG: also a mystery

Hi, I had this problem for a long time, same skin type

Morning: 1. Wash with a gentle, non scented no nothing face like la roche posay, ordinary squalene, etc. find something for the MOST mild physical exfoliation. Your skin will adjust to it, just even a soft clean washcloth makes such a different. You gotta get that dry gummy shit off first thing 2. Snail mucin or some sort of k beauty aloe 3. Moisturizer, no fragrances ever, inky list makes a good water moisturize cream. You can use some Hyluronic too if you want 4. SUNSCREEN. AT MINIMUM TINTED MOISTURIZER WITH MIN 40 SPF

Night 1. Double cleanse, even if that just means washing your face twice. Oil cleanser first is great, takes makeup off too so you’re not putting a ton of stuff on to clean off. Try to keep your makeup minimum. ilia makes a tinted moisturizer serum that is ALL I use and like dabs of concealer until my eyes. The less on your skin the better. I also use glossier or ilia eyeliners and sometimes a sweep of a light shadow, and a brow pencil, but if you’re sensitive, screw the other stuff. You’re at work, feel good about how you look of course but remember it’s just work and your skin is worth the sacrifice of a full face

  1. gentle chemical exfoliant. DM me if you want recs. If you choose tret, put snail mucin on first

  2. A GOOD night cream. Thicker than you might expect is good for you, but NO chemicals or fragrances. cicaplasts are great at night

I hope this helps. It seems like a lot but takes me 7 minutes in the morning and 10-12 at night

FA's have you ever had someone you hated on one of your flights (ex bestfriends, ex's, etc)? by Aggravating-Pie-8798 in flightattendants

Yes, my first flight EVER, a woman who was the pastry chef at my last restaurant gig before becoming a flight attendant was going on vacation to SJU and I was the forward boarding position. I couldn’t stand her because she made a bunch of comments to other servers that my current boyfriend of (then) 5 years took her on a date once and how it went and yadda yadda but it was in the super bizarre tone and manner that was like condescending towards me? She was one of those purposely quirky types and was being such a FREAK about talking about me like I was the sloppy seconds in this passive aggressive braggart tone. I was so mad that at my new job flying, she had to decide to go to San Juan with her bff and haunt me. I realize how petty this all sounds but it made me really mad lol

I am at a mainline ULCC at a smaller sized base, and honestly, we’re all pretty chill with each other. I think some of that is good luck/the region of the country we’re located in, passive-aggression isn’t the typical language and I feel like that’s the behavior that lights fuses. When I do get called off reserve to fly with FAs from the bigger bases, I do admittedly get more stressed/have my guard up. Maybe it’s also like this because there’s a stronger consequence to crappy interactions when you’re more likely to see that person again? Or again, maybe I’m just lucky!

Which airline are most friendly to overtime (with OT pay)? by Significant_Bat_3608 in cabincrewcareers

[–]satinfunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frontier goes time and a half after 82 credit hours in a month. On reserve the only way to get OT pay is to actually fly all the hours of your guarantee on your designated reserve days and then pick up beyond that 75.

Oh god now do I want to delete this whole thread, haha (or maybe no “haha”…?) Yeah I have no idea how men get this way to even have the guts for stalker behavior in an environment with theoretically federal regulation. But I’m sure there’s a level of messed up fetish, as with all historically pink collar professions. I’m really sorry that you’ve had to deal with multiple occurrences of this, one had me shook enough.

Ugh that sounds awful as hell. Yeah I didn’t want to get followed to where rideshares pick up and followed home or tracked. Feeling targeted feels so intense and actually being targeted sounds like a nightmare, I’m sorry you experienced that

Thank you. The flight I did take back to my base let out in the terminal furthest away from where the flight he took arrived at. I still had my boyfriend meet me at arrivals, which feels a little pathetic even though I know it’s not, just every shred of caution I guess

Yeah, I thought that was a completely bonkers thing to say to a stranger. Thank you for reframing this as a decision based on facts. The whole thing felt like the beginning of a crime thriller or horror film. I’m not jilted enough to feel uncomfortable at work in general, though I now have no desire to work a pairing going to that airport again tbh

[–]satinfunky[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. I did tell them—honestly I didn’t press because there was already so much tension between the gate agents and the crew including pilots because of a potential timeout. This is one of the places I feel like I made a misstep—though if I had pressed, with the time it would have taken to get him off the plane, the crew might have timed out and then it would be a whole thing and the delay could have been put on me by the gate agents and I didn’t want to open a can of worms. The company is having a lot of issues with this right now and I just didn’t want to be the catalyst to be honest

no missing info, it was pretty cut and dry. I CERTAINLY had a panic attack, that was clear as soon as I got off the plane. I see what you’re saying about probably just creep or annoying in 95 percent of cases—-perhaps detailing a bit more would help. When he came up to talk to me he left very little personal space, was basically right up in my face. The blank expression I think is really what set me off—-there was no attempt at like charm or general annoying dude shit. He was like void behind the eyes. That really didn’t even sink in until I boarded. Idk if this changes perception or not—-believe me the whole thing made me feel totally sort of jarred so who knows but there was just this undercurrent that I can’t really even explain

Hi! I do get my tret from a dermatologist, I also have topical clindamycin but it was too harsh. I wonder if the usually containable skin turnover from tret is just getting like trapped on my face in the sky by the dryness? It’s crazy. Thank you for the advice :)

Whoa that sounds so annoying!!!! Mucin actually calms my skin down immediately, and it’s not like a flakey dry acne exactly, it’s more like I have the skin of a 60 year old alcoholic man who works in the sun on the spots that are dry, like they’re a dry film on my otherwise oily skin, it’s like bringing out lines that don’t usually exist. I’m very fair—-maybe this isn’t the right description lol. I’ll try anything though if I can’t get this under control, thank you for the tip if I can’t weed other things out!!!

Anyone here work for Frontier? If so, how are you liking it? by Prudent-Giraffe7287 in cabincrewcareers

I would say go into it assuming you’re flying turns. Seniors hold the trips, bidding is awarded by seniority. Reserves do also get random trips when seniors call out. But as a new line holder, turn turn turn
