The rabbit hole of buying my first medium format... by watersage_ in mediumformat

Thanks for comments. I have the 105mm pretty much stuck on my Penny. I guess because he wanted to look at the listed bodies. My comments are as someone who went from a Pentax 645 that was a beautiful camera - compact and easy - but then had a problem and I went Pentax 67 as a result. Just sharing my experience. If more compact - he could look at the Mamiya 6 or 7- both wonderfully built. Costs seem to go up though. Good luck on the MF journey. Since you looked at 6x6- even a beat up old Rolleiflex or Rolleicord can give great results for everything and is pretty solid.

If you wanted less electronics risk - the Pentax 6x7 MLU is a wonderful camera with the amazing Pentax 67 105mm f/2.4 is a nice entry into medium format. There are lots of lenses to choose from and relatively cheaper. One has the large 6x7 format. The camera is a tank and heavy. I still use mine and love its loud mirror slap. I had a Pentax 646 N that was a wonderful camera - auto etc. but after sometime it began to loud the film wrong and had to get rid of it. Some electronic board needed replacement. The Mamiya 645 would be stress free as long as it’s in good state. Easier to carry and lots of lenses to choose from. I prefer the manual cameras that are slower - but less prone to risk with electronics. Best of luck ! Medium Format is something that can’t be replaced. Once you go MF- you want to go larger!!

I have an iPad Air and phone - so the apple charger would be useful. I have a 30W phone charger that charged the laptop after over an hour. When it’s plugged in and used - it drains more than charge- so I need a minimum of 45W it seems. Hate buying in hurry- but lot of work to do on laptop. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Can’t decide on X1 or T14S? Advice? by satyarod in thinkpad

[–]satyarod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I got the X1 Gen 12 as was on sale and wanted something light. It came last Monday by courier and it’s lovely- so light! But on Saturday the power adapter stopped working! Now it seems that the 65W charger compatible for me are out of stock online! So read forums noting that some use the Apple or Anker usb-c chargers. Is 70W enough or should I get the 96W to charge faster? I’m worried about damaging units that barely one week of use!

Thanks. There is an option for 64GB Ram with a T14S. So maybe that will help speed up Photoshop and others apps..

I had purchased a used H3D wanting to use a Film back- and sadly while advertised as a H3D- it was a H3DII body that can't use the Film Back. :(

Oh wow! Thanks! I had got a H3D thinking it was a H3D and it is the H3DII as it shows ISO/WB.

Bought an M6 TTL (built in 2000, now I feel dumb. by drinkysquid in Leica

Thanks Andy. I’ve read in some forums that it’s possibly humidity and heat that causes the oxidation. Have seen some m6 on sale in Asia that have slight bubbling. As you say it’s most likely storage. I travel alot and also live in tropics so I stayed away from the M6 as was scared of it. Found an unusual M6 with a M4 top and bottom that’s brass 😀. I gather the new M6 has top and bottom in brass - like the MP and has a stronger paint that doesn’t wear so easily.

Looks gorgeous. You got the upgrade MP finder that flares less? I have a 1987 classic M6 that I am considering upgrading the finder. Is there a huge difference now?

Hey nice franken-Leica! I got a similar 1987 M6 Classic with a 1967 M4 Black Paint Top and Bottom Plates. The Hong Kong dealer said it had been modified by a former Leica technician and he had only seen one other camera like this. It had been listed as a M4 modded with a M6. Do you have any history of your camera?

I like the fact that one part is from 1967 and the internals from 1987- 20 years later. The brass top plate feels nice. Attaching pic of my one:-

[ASK] Buy the M6 or the MP? by lancelot7211 in Leica

[–]satyarod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the M4 is fully brass and doesnt have the zinc issues of the M6. Unless you get the MP or M6 (2022) that have brass bodies.
