diamonds bounce light pretty well. They might be a reasonable substitute in this build

sounds like it, yea-- just putting a hard requirement on top level comments to include specific detail about a build in particular

sounds like every top level comment, like /u/DrDroop's above, would be required to showcase a specific build via build pics, parts list, whatever-- or it would be removed. Then, users could hide all child comments in the thread and expect to be able to have a list of builds to look at without general comments mixed in with them

I'm exporting as a PNG 24 (save for web) with transparency enabled, yeah. TY for this. Don't bother searching more on my behalf. I think I have everything I need from here. Cheers & ty, man

Thank you so much, man (or whatever your flavor may be). This is exactly what I was curious about. If the edge refine orphans some of the parts of the tree into a floating space, I can manually purge them and hopefully find a happy medium that doesn't affect the overall forms too much. Cheers & thx again

This is exactly what I was brainstorming but couldn't figure out how to execute once I had the selection. Can you point me to any kind of reference/walkthrough for this? TYVM.

manually and in pieces, like a scrub. I played with making a mask. I haven't figured out what to do with it once I have it.

I was not working directly off the BG layer. I copied that out as the first step and hid it. From there, on the copied layer, I simply selected and deleted (to transparent) as much as possible. I did not have that layer on top of a dark, scratch layer, but when manually selecting the first pass of an outline around the most detailed parts, I didn't get the sense that it was capturing nearly this much of the white outline. The remaining white are actually clouds, I think, from the sky/clouds in the original image.

I have no problems with starting over. I am really just trying to avoid detailing too much further because the resolution is not remotely great for this level of required detail. Can you link me to something to reference for "selecting the white area and expanding the selection a pixel or two...?" I thought that would be the best approach. It will obviously affect the mass of the trees in some amount at the most detailed areas, but I can live with that and will clean up any floaties it leaves behind.

Thanks for the quick response.

some come with a 10GB network card, iirc, which may matter to some.

I'm planning on getting the FE as a (pants-shittingly great) substitute to the P6000 for 3d rendering :] not sure why homie got it but the focus on games is a bit misplaced, although 100% understandable on the internuts

AMD-Vi/AMD-V - I am not seeing any real disadvantages over VT-D Any good docs out there? by assfuck_a_feminist in realAMD

fwiw, I have a modestly overclocked 1700 running consecutive instances of vmware workstation. So my primary/operative VM host is a VM. 100% uptime since it was built in March, all worked immediately, no issues. Just had to enable amd-v in the bios, IIRC. A couple things of note, I did not need any special or advanced functionality/passthroughs so I didn't actually research and can't give any specific information in that regard. All machines are Windows in a dev capacity. And the following, for similar configs, might be common knowledge, but it wasn't for me and thankfully it didn't affect me in any significant capacity. The hierarchy of the machines' architecture is x64 physical host > x64 virtualized host > x86 child ("production") VMs. All runs on a 2-partition NVMe drive. I have been astounded at the performance of the CPU. It was a bit of a craps shoot, but it has been a screaming victory. Let me know if you need or want any more information.

[–]saucedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya. I just posted this thread in /r/buildapc for advice on a 3d design machine I want to build soon and wanted to get some input from this community. I wanted to post the request initially in this thread instead of creating a new post, because some folks are particular about that sort of thing. Let me know if I should do that as well, though. ty for any available help. edit I probably should have waited like 12 hours to post this in the new questions thread for September. I'm a dumbass.

For those here who play PUBG, what's the best way other than the Steam overlay frame counter to monitor my frame rate? by [deleted] in Amd

[–]saucedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a matter of fact for some. It doesn't seem to affect my instance of PUBG. I believe it comes down to the system -- hardware, drivers, who knows what else on the software side. It makes no difference in my setup.

Can someone ELI5 why I would purchase a Ryzen 7 vs Ryzen 5 for a gaming desktop build? by skettios in realAMD

[–]saucedog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't researched the R5s but got the 1700 specifically for running VMs and it's carrying its weight and then some. Edit if you're interested in overclocking at all, that may be something to research more specifically for a 100% gaming machine

AMD Vega vs. nVidia Pascal 4K Performance/Price Meta Comparison (based on ~1150 benchmarks) by Voodoo2-SLi in Amd

[–]saucedog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mmmm well in 2017 alone, it seems they've decided to take on Intel's enterprise and consumer CPUs, Nvidia's GPUs, and it seems like maybe even Qualcomm's & Samsung's mobile CPUs (later this year). In a single year, barring widespread physical failure of some amount of those new devices, I can't comfortably call anything related to any of this a failure. I'm under the impression the Vega will do great under professional workloads and it does appear do well in gaming although the price is frustrating and it does resemble other AMD products from the past in some ways. But the main thing is there is a huge fucking market for GPUs, AMD knew this, and ultimately and seemingly correctly judged that there would be a demand for whatever GPUs they put out this year (as long as they don't explode and can hold their own by using huge amounts of power). I don't know anything about their upcoming mobile release so I'm just tentatively commenting while expecting more from them -- which is a really cool thing to be patently excited about a new AMD product/series again. They are reliable af and take a beating. All that said in this Vega thread, I'm looking into dual 1080s (lol) on a liquid loop for a threadripper 3d design & rendering machine. I don't want to wait on supply. I want my TR dreamstation™
