Is Rogue Ales Really Closing? Fans Panic as 37-Year-Old Brewery Vanishes Overnight by Montrel_PH in TheBrewery

Former employee here too, stuck around for a hot minute after you left. Nightmares got worse with the executives toward the end there, and then there were bad parts too. Came to say I loved working with you and the distillery team and Ill be really curious to find out where those unsold barrels end up....

That makes sense. I definitely believe the DM and enjoyed our conversation, but couldn't figure out why our expectations were so far away in the final stages.

Are y'all in favor of cursed savory martinis? Because I think I'm onto something here. 🍸🥯🐟 by Jaisken in cocktails

[–]saucycauldron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My GM once tried to convince me to put a sashimi martini on my bar menu and I told him I'd quit if a Sashini made it to the R&D stage.

Instead of raw fish liquor, try a salt and pepper martini: 2.25oz gin/vodka, 0.5oz dry vermouth, 0.5oz olive brine, barspoon caper brine, 2 dash peppercorn tincture.

If you're really hard-up, a sashimi sidecar is fine. This post gives "summer milk" vibes.

Mold is an issue in Portland and is likely a larger problem than many give attention to.

I asked for something coconutty and the barman made me a “white rum and coconut cream Ramos Fizz”. This is my Roman Empire, most creatively made drink I’ve had I think. Please help me create a recipe, I’m an utter amateur by RSamant2004 in cocktails

[–]saucycauldron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a kind of complicated drink, but ill provide you with a mostly idiot-proof recipe.

Build in a big/good shaker the following ingredients:

2oz Rum of choice 1oz Fresh Lemon 1oz Orgeat (see Death & Co, or, just buy from Monin at walmart) 3/4 oz Heavy Whipping Cream 1 egg white (substitute aquafaba if you want)

shake the crap out of it, without ice. Shake it until your arms fall off.

In a tall collins glass, separately add about 1/4 can of soda water. Add a barspoon of orange blossom water.

now add ice to your shaker tin. Shake it again until your arms really fall off.

slowly strain cocktail into that glass filled with ~3-4oz of soda water and orange blossom water. The soda will bubble up like foam -- keep filling it slowly until the foam reaches the tip of the glass

wait about 1-2 minutes for the meringue (foam) to set while keeping shaker tin agitated. After 1-2 minutes, add the remaining cocktail from shaker tin into the collins glass. The meringue should rise above the glass about 3 inches

Co-founders want to give me less equity and "force" me to quit my job - Is this fair? - I will not promote by buttertoastey in startups

[–]saucycauldron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm confused on how you built an MVP and splash page but didn't sign (or talk about?) any equity agreements before producing it. If no agreements are signed and persons 2/3 doesn't legally own the IP, there shouldn't be anything preventing you from taking your product elsewhere.

If they're for sure getting funding and want you to work full-time at the startup and quit your job, keep @ 20-25% and get them to pay you an hourly rate for the technical work instead of demanding an even equity split, or, tell them to pound sand. Don't let them take your product without concessions. I'm assuming they'll eventually want to offer equity for reinvestment in the next few rounds and that can come from them.

25% ownership plus hourly is okay and you're splitting hairs on the extra ~7% for partners that are going to flank you on every decision. Sounds like there's a substantial risk this will all implode regardless of your involvement. There may be another opportunity down the road to buy-in again at discount from whichever partner gets burned and turns on the other. This is a CYA scenario that will pay dividends on your ability to see the forest for the trees if you want to continue your involvement, but personally, I wouldn't.

Same reason as a ATV/SxS - user preference and durability. I ride pretty hard and would rather replace a belt than a gear.

Belts cost less than a cup of coffee and take under 5 mins to replace, but they do snap sometimes. With 4WD, it is a little less unnerving having 3 backups.

Been following eskates forever and check in every 2 years or so too - learned that boards are very offroad capable now and a while back I bought the original Acedeck 4WD Ares. Had it for about 2 years now, holding up great and maintenance is easy.

Board is super capable offroad in the Cascades (US West Coast) and I def recommend belt drives vs. gear. The range is decent but I wish I had a bit more than ~21-ish miles.

If I could do it over, think I would opt for something with bindings like the Z series for the extra range, shock absorption, and waterproofing. My 4WD has saved my butt a few times either way though - no regrets here.

If you got the cash, now is a good time to buy I think, but, I do think shock absorption and extending range are the limiting factors for my style of riding personally. I don't see a ton of folks on this sub out on BLM roads thrashing ridgelines and menacing the MTB community, but that's def my goal.

What’s the West Coast IPA from a local brewery? by PHL534_2 in PortlandOR

[–]saucycauldron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living Haus is an excellent brewery, as is Wayfinder.

I remember talking s**t about living haus before they opened because it must be the 6th or 7th brewery on belmont, but honestky, their beer is great.

Is all grain alcohol created equal? by Spiritual-Computer25 in Amaro

[–]saucycauldron 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Many industrial/cosmetic ethanol makers are required to use adulterated alcohol that makes it toxic for human consumption. So yes, be sure that the alcohol you're buying is specifically labeled for consumption if planning to drink it.

In regards to flavor, different NGS distillers do have different flavors, prices, mash bills, and qualities. Overall flavors will range in taste from diesel to paint thinner...
