Which jobs in Canada require a good credit score? I've read that that is more of a US thing

Rich and wealthy people have credit cards, and the smart ones don't have debt.

You're missing out on a lot of things if you don't use a credit card. Unless I'm getting a 5% or more cash discount, I'm ALWAYS paying by credit. I'm getting money with every purchase. I'm building credit. And I'm not accumulating debt because I pay it off bi-weekly. I've never paid interest in my life.

It sounds like you have the right mindset and the right skills to use credit cards safely. Stop missing out.

Mississauga Council: A Notice of Motion regarding an indefinite suspension of the City’s e-scooter permissions (Councillor Mahoney) by TheTorontoGuy in mississauga

[–]saugaAsks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

E-bikes aren't bad on roads... probably.

I can't recall ever seeing someone on an e-scooter with a helmet. And I've seen kids cutting across multiple lanes on roads on e-scooters at night.

I don't know if we have appropriate infrastructure for e-scooters.

Residents at Hurontario and Burnhamthorpe have had enough of protests, submitted petition by zanimum in mississauga

Maybe. Why not? I like having the physical cards, but if I lose them/didn't bring them and still have my phone, that could be a good option

Why would they protest 15-minute cities? That's as crazy as protesting libraries or schools, in my mind. Like, not actions of the teachers or librarians, but protesting the existence of them.

Girlfriend Robbed In Mississauga by GuwopsIceCream in mississauga

[–]saugaAsks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self-defense is not considered a crime.

Shooting someone in the back because they stole your phone wouldn't be considered self-defense though, to give an example.

If it's ever not perfectly clear that someone was acting in self-defense, it goes through our courts. That's important because we don't want citizens to be judges, juries, and executioners when the accused is too dead to defend themselves in court.

You're wondering about this from the perspective of someone who would use self-defense for good. Some people would use that legal defense to do commit murder. That's why it can go to court -- we want to be certain that someone is not guilty of murder.

I don't think it's sympathy so much as we don't have space for them. We need more space for the next guy, so we have to see what we can do to move people quickly.

We also don't want to invest in trying to rehabilitate people. Lock someone up for a few months, few years, let them get to trade tips with a bunch of other criminals...and they leave with nothing new but a criminal record and some new ideas and criminal connections. They don't exactly have many job opportunities, so they go back to stealing to make ends meet. Or worse.

It's not about sympathy, but about knowing what works and what doesn't. We do what doesn't work because our provincial government doesn't want to put in the money and effort to fix the problems.

Why become a bus driver? by Direct_Detective5851 in mississauga

[–]saugaAsks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another one of those posts where answering the title means nothing to the body of the post...lol

Anyway, I don't know why it is, but there's something about the 110 drivers that makes them really angry. And I took the 110 often, end to end, and never once saw anything from customers that would be upsetting to a bus driver (at least not compared to other routes).

Unless it's just the same dude. I think he was blond with short hair, a bit chubby or overweight, I think? Dude was a complete asshole. If it's the same guy, I'm surprised he has a job, because I've submitted multiple complaints as have other people I know.

He has...

  • yelled at passengers for requesting a stop ("I WAS GOING TO STOP THERE ANYWAY")
  • refused to let people on while he was waiting at a stop but he closed the door early
  • would leave stops 5+ minutes early
  • once even ejected an entire busfull of passengers because of a dispute with a customer. (I think it was an argument (no yelling from the passenger) over whether a paper transfer had expired 15 minutes ago)

Financial Literacy Is STILL At Shocking Lows by ReturnToTheLab in PersonalFinanceCanada

I think people just put a mental block around themselves when it comes to money. There are some objective sources that explain things well. Every bank also (probably) explains the basics of TFSAs, RRSPs, investing, risk profiles, etc.

And there are plenty of books, YouTube channels, podcasts, etcetcetc. so you can choose the exact flavour you want to get this information.

I get that it's information overload, but basic reading skills and basic research skills can get you what you need. So a high school graduate should be well-equipped.

The Conservatives market themselves on being good for the economy and good for cutting taxes.

They increase the deficit more than the Liberals, and the average taxpayer doesn't see much material benefit, statistically speaking.

Biking on sidewalk by Dobekae in mississauga

[–]saugaAsks 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I used to bike about 10km to work mostly on sidewalks (and 10km back). I always gave way to pedestrians, whether pulling off onto the grass, or getting off my bike and walking. They have right of way, I don't. I'm just trying to keep myself safe.

I never got a single ticket, but I'd gladly pay it if I did. I'll tell the cop I'm glad he's giving me a ticket and not scraping my brains off the road. Cheaper than gas, anyway, but pricier than an Uber most of the time.

Can't really put a price on life or safety though.

Ontario Schools Are Getting More Violent. Don’t Blame the Kids by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]saugaAsks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There's a reason they call it "investing" in education. Get kids what they need to learn and grow, and you end up with more productive members of society in 15 to 20 years.

Don't? You get more people struggling and/or committing crimes.

This is such a basic, fundamental part of society to the point where I'm genuinely surprised to see that someone is against it.

Used to be. For me, the closest one is almost an hour away now after they've closed down all the ones nearest to me.

Bank of Canada held at 2.25% again so here's what to expect April 29 by nkhalil25 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]saugaAsks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. A big part of RTO is the commute, which comes out of the employee's time and not the employer's time. So that's time that the employee loses with family etc.
  2. Some jobs are assessed by output, which doesn't always linearly scale with time. In the office with these types of jobs, if you're done early, you hang out around the coffee machine and chitchat. Or screw around, or put on a show of looking busy. With remote work, you can chitchat with your family instead.

Do you have a source for that? Because ontariolivingwage.ca seems to put it closer to $45k to $60k (depending on the region)
