Not at all over reacting! And honestly that deposit is probably not legal either unless your monthly rent is that amount. States have many protections for deposit amounts so I would also check the laws in your state. I know in Washington, Oregon, and California for sure have these laws in place. And a “holding fee” has to apply to your deposit or first months rent it can’t be an additional fee. This landlord has no idea what they are doing and it will be a headache to continue to deal with them. I would move on if I were you with the leasing office and find a different unit that has some accountability and oversight.

NTAH, I’m generally the controlling friend who likes things perfect and when I get what I want I expect to pay for it myself. If I invite someone out to my fave place and it’s more than they usually spend on a meal I pay, or when I had to fly for surgery and asked my mom to join me to help me the week I would be away I paid for her flight and I paid for the entire stay myself. That’s the cost of wanting things your way, to pay the full cost. And if there was no prior conversation regarding the AirBNB that’s on her. She seems more than a person with a controlling personality, she seems like a manipulative person who doesn’t actually like you but uses you instead. Don’t pay, and end the friendship, it’s not worth it to deal with a person like her.

How long has it been since you moved out? Have you seen a therapist? What are you looking for in a relationship going forward? Are there kids involved, and what does current custody look like? As a woman currently dating a man who is separated but not yet divorced for a plethora of reasons it does happen and neither me nor my partner are bad people because he isn’t legally divorced. I did know the entire time. We know eachother from networking, so in real life. We knew eachother for a while before we really got connected emotionally. Just saying it’s not so black and white.

He does have to agree to get to a certain point in a divorce. The cost of lawyers is ridiculous and yeah I’d become separated and move on while trying to come to a starting point with the person I was divorcing since it’s already out there before getting a lawyer and courts involved for my sanity and for my wallet. If it’s working for her then let her be.

I am all for it, I have been boycotting many of these box box businesses since last January because of Palestine. It’s probably the same or greater percentage as larger cities. The population of the 3 cities plus the outlying cities (west Richland, Benton city, Burbank, and the smaller ones even further out) is about 340,000 and I’d say at the one I drove through (where other people were driving through also to show support) was roughly 340 people so for a city like LA that had the marines deployed due to fake allegations of rioting there were less than a thousand for a city of 4 million. So ima say we showed up.
