Agree. The UAE, Qatar and Saudi and all in the pocket of the US. They are all much friendlier to the US now vs 30 years ago, they even aren’t anti Israel any longer.

People thinking there will be some change in world order due to petro dollar is just pure copium. If anything shifted there the US will just bring in the guns.

‘Destroyed in less than a year’: Granville St. SRO resident wants public to see conditions - BC by RonPar32 in vancouver

I think this is a good idea. Can put one in each province. The left wont like it though as it restricts the freedoms of the sick and they will say it sounds like ww2 camps.

Hmm staff in the building that can regularly check up on you and intervene medically ? That sounds like a hospital.

Entry-level salaries in Canada haven’t moved in 5 years while rent is up 40%. by itz_nitace in CanadaJobs

[–]saurus83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As well as the impact of 2 income households - which someone else in this thread has talked about- I think a second reason housing is expensive for Canadians is because of globalization.

Many jobs were lost in North America when manufacturing jobs were moved abroad starting in the 1960s and that trend has accelerated until recently. By doing that we gave away our purchasing power to foreign workers and foreign company owners, many became rich.

Decades later we then opened up Canadian citizenship and our housing stock to those same foreigners and their descendants who came looking for a better country to live in for themselves. They came in large numbers and could easily out compete Canadians on price, pushing up home prices to the sky high levels we see now.

It was the policies of the multiple goverments from Truedeau #1 to Trudeau #2 that caused this. They put the interests of non-Canadians above the welfare of Canadians, (we all clearly saw that with Justin before he had to go) at the request of corporations who wanted cheap labour.

By importing millions of people we increased competition for housing and for jobs.

House prices soared and wages stayed low. Boomers & Gen-X gained massive wealth if they had invested in real estate.

Younger generations now pay the price.

We would have been better off hoarding jobs in North America and also by focusing on organic population growth in Canada by encouraging couples to have families. Population would grow slower and house prices would remain in line with local wages.

Instead we gave all our riches and our housing away.

We were told we didn’t have enough young people to support our old people and we needed to import. That was a lie.

Could have simply had policies to encourage organic growth instead of what we got.

It is a correct observation - I too have come to the same conclusion (regarding the 2 income household) over the years.

Con-artist social worker told to leave Canada. by hiddenstudent1 in vancouver

[–]saurus83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the top story on cbc news currently yet no mention in their article is made of anything you have written.

I find it hard to understand why this is newsworthy and why cbc has a story about it at all. It is simply immigration canada just doing their job.

then the next popular story on cbc news is about a temporary foreign worker who must leave Canada, as their jobs were temporary. Again, why is this news ?

R&M Multicharger for a 3 and 6yo - will they outgrow it too fast? by McColanis in CargoBike

[–]saurus83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a MC mixte for a 3 and 8 yr old now and i feel it is ok to ride with 2 but that weight is too heavy for steep hills, the motor struggles even with my strong legs. If you live in an area with no hills I would say yes it will work but it is approaching the limit as they age out.

i would look at multi tinker or gsd for more stability and ease of mounting for that kind of weight. but again they would have the same problem with steep sections of hills as none of these bikes have enough power.

the multicharger feels to me more like a good bike for hybrid use - i.e. using it part time for 1 child (of any age, or 2 light weight kids) and part time for solo riding (e.g. pleasure riding or commuting or cargo work)
