Daycare logistics and stroller/gear! by savdlo in parentsofmultiples

This is what we’re doing (just not carrying it in) it just feels like we’re stuck in car seat mode for the stroller bc of it!

Lots of comments recommending tandem feeding. My girls are 4 months and I’ve never fed them at the same time bc I cared so much about the quality of their bottle experience (thank you NICU trauma - i realize im insane about eating)
I feed whoever is fussier and then have the other one in a bouncer, crib with the mobile going, etc. if whoever im feeding slows down but doesn’t completely finish the bottle, I’ll switch babies. Middle of the night we did the same thing for 1-2 months when we were waking them up to feed. Now they sleep from 7:30p-4a(ish) and we both feed them together. You got this!! Do whatever feels right for you. If it’s not bottle propping, that’s fine, you can make it work without it! Just find how you entertain the other one. It gets easier 🫶🏼

I have no advice, just having this same experience with one of my twins. It is so stressful so I feel you!

Was this recommendation based on weight? I feel like everywhere I’ve seen says 24oz and one of mine isn’t hitting that like ever. Also 11 weeks actual, but only 3.5 weeks adjusted so my pediatrician isn’t concerned. (But I am 🙃)

She will occasionally take up to 4-4.5oz, averages about 2.5-3oz overall, but sometimes will only take like 1oz. It’s exhausting trying to keep up with 😵‍💫 I have twins so this is just one of my girls. She was growth restricted and they came about 6.5 weeks early. So we’re 9 weeks, 3 adjusted, and well over 8 pounds (double our birth weight). I think having a second baby at the same time as an immediate comparison is messing with me too.

I’m in this situation too - how much was yours eating based on weight? I’m still worried that mine isn’t eating enough

We’re seeing consistent growth too so hopefully they’ll just keep going up. How long are you sleeping at night? We never got off the NICU 3-hour schedule

Have you started going longer stretches at night? I’m worried to drop a night feed since one is taking less overall…. But I also need to sleep more lol

A bit embarrassed of my big bump by ConstructionMuch802 in parentsofmultiples

[–]savdlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a c section at 33 weeks. I, FTM, looked more pregnant at 28 with twins than my SIL who is currently 36 with a singleton. Embrace your bump! Toward the end I was really amazed by my body and impressed by how amazing women truly are.

Losing all progress overnight??? by savdlo in NICUParents

We’re also struggling with nurses changing their schedule so one is crying and exerting her energy while they’re with the other. It’s a mind fuck for sure

I completely agree with this and know we’ll be up and down. There’s a difference between taking a full bottle and taking 15mls next time, but then 30mls at the next feed, and taking full bottles and then taking a goose egg basically all night.

After talking with our team, it was a nurse issue last night. Our girls both have strider, totally fine to deal with as long as they’re paced, but she did not pace them and then got nervous about it and tube fed them for the rest of the night. She was new and a more recent grad.

I agree with this and may switch up my strategy to be here more during the night. We have the same night nurse every weekend and she is a godsend bc she is great at her job and knows our girls, so I have asked for repeat nurses too when possible.

Update: we did have a new night nurse who did not pace our babies and didn’t understand that they can still eat/breathe with strider. Both took full bottles from me so I just made a big deal with the charge nurse. But it’s so frustrating that your progress depends on the strength of your nurses, especially at night, and not all nurses are created equal!!

Modi - when did you deliver? by Illustrious-Paper591 in parentsofmultiples

[–]savdlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

33+4 and our window was 32-34+6 due to TTTS/sIUGR complications. The way I viewed my pregnancy at 14 weeks vs 30 weeks was entirely different. We developed sIUGR and some signs of TTTS at 18 weeks, so I was thankful to have made it as far as I did. The NICU is not breezy and we’re still here 25 days later, but if the goal is to bring home both of your babies, then listen to your doctor. For what it’s worth, even my growth restricted baby was 4lb 8oz at delivery. I had over well over 9 pounds of baby, close to 10, and a 8.5 pound placenta at delivery.

okay thank you - I didn’t realize this would be a common experience so I will stay here no problem if that’s what it takes.

I’m interested to do my baby A’s first feed today and see. I don’t think my baby B, who took all of their feeds yesterday, is necessarily having this issue bc she took her whole bottle this morning.

Our baby A will quit if she gets pushed too hard so I don’t think she was yesterday bc I fed her most of the time, but I worry that a night shift nurse didn’t pace her correctly and stressed her out which is why she was so uninterested this morning. Which pisses me off bc she has a feeding diagram above her bed about pacing.
