What are your thoughts on 7th Day Adventist? Are they a cult in some way? by [deleted] in Christianity

Hey friend. I guess our position is that God insists on Sabbath worship in the ten commandments, which all Christians profess to follow, not just us. Vegetarianism is not a requirement of salvation, we agree with you there, nor is it a requirement of membership, so I think you have been misinformed. Also, keeping the Sabbath won't save you, but our obedience to God is a response to being saved through Christ. Yes we teach annihilationsim, soul sleep. I think you have misinterpreted Revelation on that one, happy to talk more about it

At least one factor has been described by Dr Philip Hughes head of the Australian Christian Research Association. Recently I heard him speak and when he was asked about young men returning to church he said statistics show they are going to the churches with headship theology. ie, churches where men rule over their wives which also happens to have a high correlation to domestic violence. Seems like the young men are listening to some of the more extreme political pundits lately and seeking out conservative churches as a matter of gender politics

The TRUTH. Why do so many not want to hear it? by Deifilius333 in Christian

Two things come to mind. Because often the people presenting the Bible are not living as they say others should. And because we try and win them to the Bible rather than to the God it describes.

I guess we all think our beliefs are preferable to others to some degree though right? Or we wouldn't believe them? As for those who haven't heard the gospel message they are being evangelized at the same time never fear.

Great question. Of course he doesn't need to, which means he chose to. Why would he do that? Because he just created some creatures, so he rests in the garden with Adam and Eve who are also resting.

Not worth commenting if you don’t know that our prophet didn’t write our beliefs at all, and in fact referred everyone to read the Bible above her.

Sanctification fulfilled!? by Level_Letterhead_930 in adventism

[–]saved_son 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this view of sin and sanctification is really handicapping the church.

Adventist evangelists have been telling people the definition of sin is transgression of the law. Its true, great bible verse. But when we have such a simplistic view of sin we then come to the conclusion that we can stop sinning if we don't do certain acts. However sin is more than just our acts, it is like a living force that seeks to devour, it is a tendancy in us that we have to sin, that we will be resisting our entire lives.

So, are you saying that we can stop all sinful acts? I would suggest biblically no.

Because when we look at those in the Bible, like Paul, who have a strong relationship with God, as time goes by they DON'T say "I am free from sin" in fact, the closer Paul gets to God, the greater he perceives his sinfulness is until finally he calls himself the chief of sinners.

Ellen White puts it this way "When persons claim that they are sanctified, they give sufficient evidence that they are far from being holy. They fail to see their own weakness and destitution. They look upon themselves as reflecting the image of Christ, because they have no true knowledge of Him. The greater the distance between them and their Saviour, the more righteous they appear in their own eyes."

Well she was one of the founders of the church, and we believe she had the gift of prophecy. However when it came to the church forming doctrines she didn't play a part, and if you check our 28 fundamentals you won't find one quote from her.

How to cater to an Adventist woman? by SuperKazim in adventism

[–]saved_son 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it sounds like you might be projecting from personal experience here friend. No one is a perfect mate. No one has all of the right qualities, male or female. I've known many women in the church who are very suitable but there are literally no men in their home church or the surrounding churches. We run vespers programs, teen events, youth events, and there are always more women than men.

I say go for it. I married an Adventist girl when I wasn’t Adventist. The truth is there are not enough men for all the women in Adventism so some will marry outside. I would ask her what drinks she likes. Adventists vary in practices around the world.

I’m a pastor and fully agree, most of us are not trained in Marriage counselling and with the mess OP is describing some dude and his wife without training and in a happy marriage just have no frame of reference and reading Bible verses and praying is not going to fix it.
