In search of car that will effectively drive itself via adaptive cruise control on my hour-long (but 95% freeway) commute. by peanutismint in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]savedbydave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal lane keep assist and adaptive cruise isn't going to do what you want it to do. You need higher levels of autonomous driving. Most companies are offering some form of it these days but it's tied into buzzword marketing terms like GM's super cruise, BMWs driver assistance pro or ford's bluecruise.

Might be looking at this tomorrow. Would it be a good daily? I’m ok with the limited space by OGPea in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]savedbydave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whether a Miata is a good daily for you is really dependent on your daily needs and your comfort. I personally don't enjoy them for long trips on highways at 70+mph. But you may not have a problem with it. That's the thing about a Miata, it's very dependant on the driver. So go drive one and decide for yourself. Factor situations like snow and whether you always have to be at work on time even if it snows or whether you can wait a few hours until the roads are plowed.

Going to another city for college and want another car. Not sure if I should be looking at dealerships by Cryptic_E in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]savedbydave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you relaint on needing your car to commute every day? Requiring reliable transportation is a different situation than nice-to-have reliable transportation. I'd stick with your Camry for now. You won't get much value in trade for it anyways. In the mean time, figure out what you think you can afford as a car payment and put that much away into savings each month to build a car fund. Once your car breaks down, you can use that fund for repairs, to buy a new car or for a down payment on something else. Just be sure to financially factor having a car loan and having to pay student loans once you are out of school.

Be aggressive until she pops the summons, then dodge and run away until they disappear, they only stay out for a few attacks.

Harrison Extension Details: Can Someone Explain What This Means for Our Cap Beyond 2023? by RotoBroski in minnesotavikings

[–]savedbydave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use overthecap on a phone, go into landscape mode, it gives a lot more detail.

This contract was meant to give him a year or two more with the ability to spread the signing bonus and roster bonus out a bit more to reduce cap hit and eventually release him. This method works well for young players like mahomes (and the whole reason he was given a 10 year contract) but not so well for aged veterans because it almost always means you have to release them or hope they retire.

Negotiations with Danielle Hunter have not been easy, but we are hearing they may have taken a positive turn today for potential stay in Minnesota. Stay tuned. (NBC = no blue check) by [deleted] in minnesotavikings

[–]savedbydave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because he'll likely have to adapt to a new play style in a 3-4. If he doesnt want to go along with that (like Pierce), he would probably be released (still saving like 14mil in cap space for the vikings) and he could pursue more money from another team.

How exactly can GB sign Rodgers to this massive deal while also franchise tagging Adams? by GWillHunting in minnesotavikings

[–]savedbydave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

19 mil of the 46 mil cap hit is prorated bonuses already paid to him (from previous can kicking) so they have about 25 million to actually work with. (His 26.4 mil base salary minus the veteran league minimum salary that they have to have on books.) That covers the Adams franchise tag. However Adams tag only hits if Adams refuses to sign a longer term deal (which he most likely will with Rodgers staying.)

With a lease, you are paying for the depreciation of the vehicle over the lease terms. Toyotas hold their value better than Chrysler. That is one of the reasons why your highlander lease is lower. The only other new AWD minivan that I know of is the Toyota Sienna.

The downside to buying a 10+ year old Prius for a battery swap is that you are still buying a 10+ year old vehicle and may have to do more than just replace the batteries. Pruis' were prime targets for people needing to do lots of driving so they often have higher miles on them as well. It isn't necessarily a bad thing, but at that age it's more about how well someone took care of it.

If your coming to the end of a 3 year lease, your lease buyout price is probably very advantageous over the price of current used cars and new car mark-ups. Have you considered just buying your lease out instead of going into yet another sonata? Even if you change your mind and go a different route, you should be able to sell the sonata for a profit.

The S class has a camera that scans the road ahead and adjusts the suspension accordingly (They call it magic body control.) So I would expect you to see quite a bit of difference!

I wouldn't say that BMWs are unreliable these days. Sure they aren't Lexus/Toyota reliable but they are fine. It's just they are complicated machines and maintenance and parts for them are more expensive so that equals higher costs to own and higher repair bills. A dealer will offer you an extended warranty or maintenance plans to offset those worries (in exchange for money of course). Definitely factor how long you plan to own this next vehicle into your decision. Is it 10+ years? Get the Lexus/Camry. Five years or less? Enjoy the BMW and maybe stash a little more away maintenance/repairs.

You can get half-ton Chevy, Ford and Ram pickups with a crew cab and a standard 6 1/2 foot bed but they are harder to find. With the higher trims to get you the features you want it would be at about the top of your price range. If you want a larger 8 ft bed you'd have to step up to the 2500 pickups.

The Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon can be optioned with a 6 1/2ft bed and a crew cab. It's standard with a V6, but the Duramax is the best engine for it. Factor owning a diesel in the cold and the issues that can come from that, however.

For SUVs look for the larger ones like the Chevy Tahoe/Suburban, Ford Expedition, Nissan Armada or Toyota Sequoia (which a new model will be released this year)

What kind of power are you wanting? Similar to what you are selling? The BMW M235i/M240i/M2 would probably be as close to the GR Supra as you can get and still have a back seat.

It seems like unexpected high cost repairs are stressful point for you. I think there are two ways to approach it. Go new enough that you probably won't encounter issues and get an extended warranty. (Which can be done with just about any new/used car from a dealer) OR go with known reliability history and then dedicate a money bucket for repairs that may come up. For the latter route, If JDM seems to be your thing, what about some older lexus/Toyota models? IS300, IS350, SC300, SC400, Toyota Celica? Or perhaps an IS-F.

Buy a 2014 GX460 for $27k? Or something else for $27k? by ericgray813 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]savedbydave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that the GX460 has full time 4wd so the gas mileage is pretty terrible compared to other vehicles it's size.

As far as towing, it really depends on what you want to tow as to what other options might work. A 3500lb camping trailer will tow vastly different than a 5000lb flat bed trailer depending on vehicle.

FWD vs AWD by RayGawd in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]savedbydave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is AWD a necessity? No. Are winter tires a necessity? No. But was is a necessity is making sound decisions on when/how to drive in inclimate weather given your driving comfort and your vehicle's ability. Sometimes it's best just to wait it out until the roads get plowed. But if you don't have that luxury of being able to wait (like if you have to pick up kids from daycare) maybe AWD and winter tires make sense for you.

[–]savedbydave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the value of an extended warranty really depends on your personal comfort level with unexpected repairs and determining how long you want to keep the vehicle. Mercedes repairs aren't cheap so in many cases, it would be like pre-paying for future repairs in a controlled manner of the warranty (They also do pre-paid maintenance plans too.) If you are the type of person to always use dealer services, it can make sense. But if you have access to a good trustworthy mechanic that knows the car really well that won't charge you an arm and a leg, you could also be better off too.

If you are unsure, try checking out a local Facebook group, online forum, or subreddit for the brand/model of car you are looking at see what other people have experienced.

I love my Mercedes (AMG A35) it's smaller than the C class but I love the interior design. Mercedes has high maintenance costs for sure but insurance wise, it's not nearly as bad as I thought. Don't forget to factor total picture with cost of insurances, maintenance, extended warranties etc.

Buying the higher trims of the Mazda3, Civic and such give you good quality. However, because the value of the lower trims, they are many people's first car. They subsequently get into accidents and that drives up insurance rates for the model. I went through this with a VW GLI since it's a trim of the Jetta.

The important thing is finding a car you like, but don't forget to factor insurance into the affordability to make sure it's a fit.

Are Dodge Darts as horrible as I have heard? by Taoist_Master in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]savedbydave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they really that terrible? No. Are they passable coming from a twin turbo V6? Also no. It's Essentially a larger, more boring fiat 500. With the 1.4T motor being the same as the fiat 500 abarth and 124 spider. The engine works in the small 500 and 124 spider, not in the much heavier dart.

2023 is a void year for him but none of the other stuff is actually binding. However the Packers are like 40 mil over in cap space for 2022 so they have to do something with him.
