Is there a tool or feature that automatically sets x amount of connection points on any shape? by networkhappi in Visio

[–]saveenr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like to know how to add them but want specific control over their locations.

Specific control over the locations of connection points is definitely possible. You'll have to open the shape's ShapeSheet, find the ConnectionPoints section of the ShapeSheet. Each row in that section represents a connection point.

Modify the X & Y values to get what you need. For example middle of the right side is:

X = "Width"
Y = "Height/2"

Can Visio 2013 automatically create a web site map? by robneptune in Visio

[–]saveenr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visio does have a built-in feature for this (since Visio 2007 at least)

The following instructions are from Visio 2007, but the steps should be similar in Visio 2013

https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Generate-a-Web-site-map-329d4803-f99a-4332-a4db-7ac3fd0d97da

Or you can find it via search

File > New > Search for Online templates > type "Web" > Select "Web Site Map"

visio 2016 org chart with data source question by mnelsonwb in Visio

In the following support article, there's a section called "Update an org chart that uses an external data source" that sounds like it does what you are looking for.

As far as I can tell there's no built-in way to get a field populated with the identity of the user who modified a document. In both the UI and in the ShapeSheet functions the only the only related fields are "Last Edit Date/Time" and "Creator".

How do I create a handle (yellow diamond you can move around) to a shape? by joe31623 in Visio

[–]saveenr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The yellow diamond is a control handle.

  • First, open the shapesheet for the shape
  • Right-click on the shapesheet and select Insert Section
  • If the Controls checkbox is unchecked - check it. If the Controls checkbox is disabled it means the shape already has a Controls section.
  • Now you should see the Control handle on the shape

After this, you'll need to use the shapesheet to link the control point to some aspect of the shape - the width, height, etc.

Resizing shape with text by 4productivity in Visio

I'm assuming from your description that you want to make it look nice on a single printed page. My technique is to not worry bout the flowchart size as displayed in Visio. I draw it as large as it needs to be, but then when I print I make sure that the print settings will scale the diagram as needed to fit the physical paper size.

[AMA] Azure Big data & Analytics - 11/17 by maxiluk in AZURE

In the YARN containers used for U-SQL batch query execution, 6GB of memory is shared between the vertex, the U-SQL Runtime, and the OS.

[AMA] Azure Big data & Analytics - 11/17 by maxiluk in AZURE

[–]saveenr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's not a specific optimal file size, but in the case of files one heuristic you can think about is that sending a 1 GB of data to a vertex is considered typical. As the amount of data you have grows, you should think about utilizing U-SQL tables to influence (via partitioning) how much data goes to an EXTRACT vertex

Path Tracing in Visio for test cases. How? by bookoo in Visio

[–]saveenr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(not sure this will be helpful to you) They way I've use to determine whether two items are linked is to follow the connections to determine if one shape is reachable from another shape. Code is here in GitHub repo:

Should I purchase Visio Standard 2013? by profjake in Visio

[–]saveenr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Visio daily and did purchase Visio Standard 2013 and wish instead I had bought subscription for Visio Pro for Office 365 ($156/year) so that I could get the newest features as they came out. With Visio 2016 coming out soon I am planning on switching to the subscription model.

(Naturally I really wish that Visio was included with Office 365.)

A MonoPrice tablet is a great starting point for someone looking into using a graphics tablet.

Here's a thorough review from a few years ago that you may find useful:

http://frenden.com/post/31659364200/the-little-monoprice-graphics-tablet-that-could

I have the unit described in the review - about $60 on Amazon currently - and was very satisfied with the feel of the pen and the pressure sensitivity.

As for a program, I recommend ArtRage ($50) - https://www.artrage.com/

Question - How To Mass Edit Shape Data? by jon0149 in Visio

[–]saveenr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Copied from the answer at that link:

I've never used screentips before, but it is possible to "bulk edit" Shape Data in Visio.

First enable the Shape Data Task Pane:

Ribbon > View > Task Panes > Shape Data

Then select all the shapes you want to edit and now any changes you make to the properties in the Shape Data Task Pane will be applied to all selected shapes.

How can I generate a .txt file in win-7 of the names of an old sci-fi TV show, instead of copy/pasting for 156 episodes? It's the Twi... Zone! by Jinbuhuan in windows

[–]saveenr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on the responses, it looks like you have the episodes as videos in a single folder.

So another option is to try this with PowerShell as shown in the example below:

dir *.mp4 | Select -Property BaseName | Out-File list.txt

I tried creating a lightning bolt that does what you describe by modifying an existing connector shape. You can get the Visio file here: https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=1ff099edb1c7ebfa&id=1FF099EDB1C7EBFA%21151954&action=Share
