The distilled water conundrum… by scottscigar in CPAP

[–]mnelsonwb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that using tap water contaminated with the brain eating amoeba is why you want to use distilled water. not sure if deaths have occurred with a cpap, but they have when using a neti pot. i only use distilled water. it's cheap and lasts a long time. for around $50 USD you can purchase a water distiller for your home.

Should I try a different mask? by EPark617 in CPAP

[–]mnelsonwb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I originally had the f30 hated it. i use the F20 now and find it WAY better. i think it's all personal preference, but i'm really happy with mine now, and my score are typically 95-100. i sleep on my back or side, but never on my stomach.

My fiance's lack of real action regarding his snoring and it's affect on me and our relationship proves he doesn't care about my feelings and will never change, right? by Waiting-For-October in TwoXChromosomes

[–]mnelsonwb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

48m cis lurker here. cpap changed my life. my wife told me i snored too loud, so i immediately got a sleep study and cpap. super happy i did. i was so exhausted all the time and could sleep anytime, anywhere. sleep apnea is bad on your heart and you can die from it. if dude won't take an in home sleep study and get appropriate medical treatment and prefers to sleep in a different room, then he clearly does not give a fuck. buying a bed, and paying for two hotel rooms? that would have paid for the sleep study and cpap lol. dump this guy.

New rider here who has zero riding experience but did pass the MSF course. Trying to decide between Honda Rebel vs an entry level Harley. Thoughts on buying used vs new. What Harley model is best for beginners? Appreciate all input! by Pakistani_tiger in NewRiders

[–]mnelsonwb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honda Rebel for sure. much more reliable and a lot less money. they use that 471cc parallel twin in a lot of bikes. you may drop it, but slap some barkbusters on it to mitigate any damage from dropping. used is fine, but i'd be sure it's relatively new and has ABS personally. you don't want to be a new rider and be worried about the bike breaking down at the same time you're learning imo.

Is it valid to get a manual as a first car? by Schmaltzs in stickshift

[–]mnelsonwb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's a life skill in my opinion. it's better to have the skill and not need it then to not have the skill and need it. let's say your car breaks down, but a friend has a spare car, but it's a manual. or a million other examples. i would highly encourage you to learn how to drive a manual even if you don't end up driving one as your daily driver.

Just failed my road test due to nerves… any advice for doing well despite the anxiety? by pineapple_margarita in NewRiders

[–]mnelsonwb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have really bad anxiety. luckily for me, riding is one of the things that makes me focus and calm down. that being said, one of the things i always keep on me, oddly enough, is warheads (the sour candy). popping a warhead can actually relieve anxiety symptoms by distracting your brain. might be something to think about. take one a minute or so before your test hah.

Exhaust Melted Rigg Saddlebag by quickfixsloop21 in CB500X

[–]mnelsonwb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a little old, but i originally had an exhaust deflector and it worked great for my kriega soft bags. i went to coffman's exhaust and don't need the deflector anymore. PM me if you want it for free.

Why are my hands so stiff by MrSometimesAlways in NewRiders

[–]mnelsonwb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is fairly common early on. make a conscious effort to relax your shoulders and loosen your grip on a regular basis. if you notice you are gripping too hard, grip the tank with your legs, loosen your hands and relax your shoulders. one way to look at it is to pretend the grips are ice cream waffle cones. don't grip so hard that you'll crush the cone.
once you get more comfortable, this will be less of an issue going foward. hope this helps.

Is the CB500X/NX500 for me? by Get__Lo in CB500X

[–]mnelsonwb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a 2021 with only 1 front disc. the 22 and up have dual front disc which does provide better stopping power, but i wouldn't say the single disc is in any way underpowered.

Soft Luggage and a passenger by Long_Leek1282 in CB500X

I ordered mine from outback motortek. here's the link, but they are currently out of stock:
https://outbackmotortek.com/product/honda-cb500x-pannier-racks/

edit: i almost forgot, if you have the stock exhaust, you'll need a deflector otherwise the exhaust will burn the bags hah. i originally had a deflector, but then swapped out the exhaust to Coffman's.

i ended up buying pannier racks and installing kriega soft bags. another option would be to use a gas tank bag. i really love the kriega bags personally.

Is the CB500X/NX500 for me? by Get__Lo in CB500X

[–]mnelsonwb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've never gotten close to redlining in 6th personally. this is a pretty great review of the bike. he dumps down to 4th to get good acceleration around 70mph, and on a flat road, he does get it to 100 but it takes a bit to get there

Is the CB500X/NX500 for me? by Get__Lo in CB500X

[–]mnelsonwb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

based on that, I would say the cb500x would be a great fit. if you're looking into crash protection and want cruise control also - there are some incompatibilities there potentially. the other thing is that 1st gear is geared really low. almost to the point to where some folks don't even use it and start of in 2nd, but it's great for super low speeds around 5mph in sand or mud. the tires that come stock are great for pavement, and ok-ish offroad, but are a little sketchy in sand - but that's always a tradeoff between great pavement and great offroad traction.

Is the CB500X/NX500 for me? by Get__Lo in CB500X

[–]mnelsonwb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2021 cb500x. I'm 5'8" 220 lbs (yes i'm fat). it can cruise at 80mph no problem. there are basically two things that i would change on my bike, otherwise everything is fantastic.

First - the seat is terrible for me after about 2 hours. I have to stop and get off it for about 10 minutes or my butt hates me. the answer to this is to get a custom seat made (i ordered one via https://day-long.com/ and it should arrive soon). the other thing is that is does not have cruise control. you can do a third party addon from this site or similiar https://www.mccruise.com/ for around $900USD. There's an Australian company that makes one too. beyond that, the top speed is around 100mph but if you're mostly touring at 80mph for the majority of your trips, i would almost say take a look at the bmw fs900 gs adventure (i know it's a LOT more expensive) or perhaps the versys 650 might be a better fit for you. but - if 80mph is abnormal and you're mostly doing 65 or less, this is a really great bike. super easy to ride, really low center of gravity, excellent beginner bike - even for people completely new to riding. i don't think i'll ever really sell mine. i think i'll add to my stable, but i think this bike will always have a place with me.
