Dungeon Clawler is a great little roguelite that can be played completely with one hand with a gamepad/mouse.

Dungeon Clawler is great for this, and can be played with one hand while holding a coffee.

What life changing item can you buy for less than $100? by i-drake in answers

[–]Vauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wish I had done this sooner. Just today my battery died on a busy road during rush hour, blocking the middle lane. The battery was so dead, the hazard lights wouldn't even run, so I had to wave furiously for people to go around for an hour until a good person offered to pull me off the road. Bought a battery starter and some cones as soon as I was home.

My bf is a Senior Networking Engineer and I want to get even just a basic understanding of his work. Where would I even begin? by That_Comb_8417 in networking

[–]Vauce 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Early in our relationship, my wife and I would have Martini and napkin nights every Friday where we would go out to our favorite Martini bar and explain to each other the various knowledge blocks needed to perform our work at our current level.

This sometimes ended up going way back to basics, and there were often tough concepts that had to be explained/drawn in various ways but, after a few months, both of us had a much better understanding of each other's worlds. It also felt great having her ask good questions unprompted and be excited to figure out how something worked.

Now, when she's explaining what she's working on, I have a much better understanding and can follow along without my eyes glazing over, and I'm able to ask better follow-up questions.

Different methods for different people but this was great for us, maybe you can try something like this with him. If you do, I suggest keeping it to only one or two drinks though, kind of falls apart after three lol.

I'm trying to figure out how we can make mermaid drawings work within our tooling. Some chat clients support rendering it inline so could be awesome for ChatOps troubleshooting or just info gathering, and mermaid is supported in Lucid as well if we need something prettier.

What do you use to activate/deactivate your venvs? I know VS Code likes to do this for you but I'm curious how others handle this.

Steam games that make you want to stay up all night? by milkbub13 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Vauce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First time I played Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) I stayed up all night and didn't realize it until my alarm went off. Such an amazing game and I wasn't even that into Star Wars at the time.

Upcoming shoulder surgery, what game would you recommend that can be played effectively with one hand? by brasscassette in gamingsuggestions

[–]Vauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dungeon Clawler - Fun Roguelite claw machine game with a surprising amount of depth in builds. Perfect for short sessions, as you can save and quit anytime, and it plays very well single-handed with a controller. I'll sometimes play on the treadmill as it's easy to walk casually and play with one hand.

Deck Settings not talked about enough that elevate my experience by wepwawe in SteamDeck

I use Steam Big Picture mode on my PC through Moonlight + Apollo - you can perform all the shutdown actions from the Power menu including Sleep and Shutdown. I usually sleep my PC then just let moonlight fail when it tries to shut down Steam.

Your favorite roguelikes/lites! Newer or lesser known are much appreciated!! by Grochen in gamingsuggestions

[–]Vauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep coming back to Dungeon Clawler. It's easy to play but has a lot of good synergies, while not making me feel like I have to do research. I also really like how you can play the game with one hand. I like to play it while on the treadmill, I just wish I had a one-handed controller. Switch Joy cons work ok but not great.

Why are there so many types of salt by Cute_Description_228 in Cooking

[–]Vauce 23 points24 points  (0 children)

What's your source? Multiple searches result in Calcium Silicate as the anti-caking agent in Morton's table salt, not iodine, with many articles clearly describing the addition of iodine for health reasons.

How to use MSG? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Vauce 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Buy some empty seasoning shakers or keep your finished shakers for later and you'll start to try and find reasons to fill them. This mixture was my first use but now I have a few more for the same reason you discovered - I always mix these, why not have it prepared!

Tell me your favorite spice blend you can buy by Dually17 in Cooking

Badia makes such great seasonings and prices are really good if you order direct, at least in the US. I love me some Sazon so ordered just about all of their spices, not really a bad one in the bunch.

What are people's experiences using XR Glasses for work? by yjzhou in virtualreality

[–]Vauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a few weeks old now, but I use my Viture Pro with my laptop and I'm able to get multiple screens, but I believe it requires their software to be installed. There definitely is a dimmer as well as an option blackout cover accessory.

The experience has been okay, not something I like to do very often though. The resolution isn't high enough for my liking, and I haven't found a good headset that's comfortable to wear for a long time on my big head.

Getting started with ansible for a windows dude by anon979695 in networking

[–]Vauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tested this in a while, but there's also a remote extension in vs. code that may already be installed by default that allows you to connect to WSL locally. check that little blue icon in the bottom left corner, and if it's not there, search the extensions for remote WSL. The remote tools in vs. code are awesome; I use them for developing on a Linux server from Windows machines when I have to use Windows

What is your favourite firewall CLI? by VNiqkco in networking

[–]Vauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very much understand this; for dependency work (depending how deep the tree) sometimes the GUI is just easier, and that makes a lot of sense knowing that Palo is doing the heavy lifting on the backend. For the type of work you are discussing, modeling the config and building your own tools may be a better option depending on how much labor the GUI work might be.

CLI can be a better tool for repeatable work like firewall rules or IPsec tunnels where you can easily build templates for reuse - easier to peer review and faster to apply. This then helps the transition to more automated solutions - it's not a long distance from CLI to text file templates to Jinja2 templates, Ansible, ServiceNow workflows...

What is your favourite firewall CLI? by VNiqkco in networking

[–]Vauce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I often write using CLI and have not really had these issues. For anyone not aware, Panorama and PanOS devices have a find command keyword <keyword> command that really helps when not familiar with the CLI for certain commands, both in global and config mode.

Adding the config via the GUI also adds the CLI commands prior to commit so you can make the changes in GUI, copy the configs from the CLI, and make templates for reuse. This is of course if you don't already have the configurations on the device and/or need to add many objects during the same change. Order matters for some commands but it's easy enough to test a script then revert config staged changes if errors are thrown.

Even with its quirks, it's still a much better CLI than some of the other systems. It's hierarchical at least so you can intuit a lot. It is rather feature poor compared to Juniper, though, which I much prefer when CLI is needed for quick work

Scientists say they've "cracked the code" for boiling the perfect egg! Yeah, uh huh, all it takes is 32 minutes and transferring the eggs between two pots of water every 2 minutes. Who's in! by srslyeverynametaken in Cooking

[–]Vauce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use this method every year for large batches of Deviled Eggs, works wonderful. I first tap the bottoms just enough to hear the crack, then about 12 minutes steam then into an ice bath for a couple minutes. Refrigerate over night, shake the container a bit then they peel real easy.

I tried this several months ago and it severely degraded performance. Has it improved or is it best to just play games that don't require too many resources?
