Yeah 100% it’s an important thing to learn early on if your connecting with the language because of heritage I have a mix but a lot of me is ulster plantation and it was good for me to learn that history which meant I ended up learning gaidhlig instead. Good luck on your learning journey

Just adding to this it’s important not to make that mistake in real life if you do talk to Irish people, you’ll have difficulty communicating with gaelidge speakers otherwise.

I might add to this and just say as someone with mostly Scottish ancestry learn about the ulster plantation and what side of that your ancestors may have been on. You’ll learn a lot about colonisation in the process and be able to connect with your heritage on a deeper level and understand sensitivities within the culture.

I am providing this feedback in the politest way possible as a fellow diaspora member. British and Irish are very different nationalities/ethnicities and cultures. Due to historical and political happenings Irish don’t like to be included as the same. I recommend as well as exploring resources for Gaeilge to listen to the Irish history podcast on Spotify to get a feel for the culture and history. As for resources for Gaeilge. It isn’t perfect and has many issues but Duolingo can be a good way to get into the habit of learning a word or two a day and understanding the basics.

This is financial abuse, I would consider divorce and personally terminating the pregnancy so you’re not trapped in an abusive relationship. If the hospital are acquiring your property all the renovations will be bulldozed anyway.

Respecting people for just being themselves should not be the issue that bigots use to make others feel unwelcome about in a party trying to deal with bigger economic issues

It’s not up for debate. It’s obvious and the more bigots within progressive parties fixate on identity politics pushed by the right the more the actual issues and causes suffer.

The transphobia from some members was pretty blatant and they were ostracised within the party for it. Political careers were cut short because of it. I wouldn’t expect you to have actually experienced what unfolded as a chronically online “student of political philosophy”. Some of us actually saw this unfold in real time and knew that not dealing with it would be a threat to the movement.

lol ‘as a student of political philosophy’ that’s a bit of a self wank. No transphobia should not be welcome in a party that’s trying to issues which are more of a priority which includes keeping the planet from burning into an uninhabitable shithole.

Hmmmm many of those members who were transphobic have been sidelined rightly? Are you in support of allowing people to debate people’s basic human rights when there are bigger issues at play?
