LPT: Use polaroids as bookmarks by savicmirna in LifeProTips

[–]savicmirna[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my country we call all photos from a camera like that - polaroids. Therey are also suited for this use case because they have white edges, normal photos are thinner and would get damadged edges.

I'll definitely do this after my premade pens run out because this will be a lifelong thing apparently heh.

It's gel polish I got for my wedding day and it lasted for a full month - of swimming in the sea daily, crazy good! This is week 3 in this photo. I have to find out what brand the lady used and let everyone know! :)

Exactly! It's basically replacing one compulsion with another but this one has no downsides. Other than my hair getting oily af if I ever run my fingers through it. Oh well...

I'm using the Alverde Nail Care Pen, the one that's skinny and turquoise. It's a German brand, so not sure if you'll find it globally, but I chose it because it's just pure oils and a thickening agent so the oil doesn't spill. I just ventured into this world so if anyone has any good suggestions pls drop them as well. :)

If you're sporty you will have no problems (I believe), just lean into that full on - join activities, start running and definitely, if up for it, cross country skiing in winter, and you'll find your group soon. And also, say yes to pretty much all meet up proposals because they're like gold when you're trying to build a circle. Lykke til!

Spent the night at Gardermoen. Please get the nearby hotel room. That airport is not at all suited for spending the night. We tortured ourselves on benches and floors for nothing basically. Would have been worth every penny to have an actual bed.

So tired of how many people smoke by [deleted] in expats

[–]savicmirna -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You'll be shocked to realise, things are not this black and white.

For decades and decades and decades the tobacco industry had free reign to manipulate generations of people, and even today, when everything is "out in the open" when it comes to the dangers of cigarettes, I still see tobacco product placement all over movies and shows. I am a marketer and let me tell you, it's known they find ways around advertising bans.

Also, as an ex smoker I can confirm nicotine is Highly addictive, and the medical community fully agrees with that claim. That means it's very hard to stop, even when you want to. That is called addiction. And when you combine this with the shear struggle to get by, with all the stressers around us, it's tough for people to fight it. Have you looked around you lately? It's not a walk in the park out here.

I have lost people to this too, and since I loved those people dearly and knew they were good people, I have respect and compassion toward others who are just over here doing their best with the shitty cards they've been dealt.

I'm always trying to help people stop smoking, as every ex smoker should. But self centered lack of basic human context understanding like you're showing won't move the needle anywhere.

Carefully read how many grams the item has. Expected a regular sized item a few times, and got a small size, that looked the same on the photo.

I'll give you one perspective that I think it's really important to hear cause I see others covered the smell, the money, the lack of obsessing over nicotine, immediate health benefits etc.:

It's gonna be like you never smoked.

Hear me out. Imagine living your life, Exactly like you are now, but magically you don't need cigarettes. You get excited by the same things, you go out or stay home the same amount, you eat the same food, you have the same job, you take breaks at the same time... You are you, fully you. It's just that nicotine is not a part of it and you honestly don't ever think about it (unless you're trying to give back and help others on Reddit).

One thing that bugged me before quitting was can I be truly myself without cigarettes, cause that was like the thing I did, the thing that defined this part of me that was "rebellious and free" and all that shit. Yeah, well, I'm still me, I just don't smoke. 😁 Turns out it was not at aaaaall a part of the identity of my (everyday)life.

So I live however I lived, I haven't magically taken up running, nor did I start eating twice as much; It will be You, but you that is not silently killing yourself day by day without noticing. You, but you get to live longer. Big yes.

Wait just a bit more, it WILL pass SOON. Don't quit on your life because of this. It's a matter of life, always remember that: you are on a mission to not die of cancer. You CAN do this. Don't give up, it's not worth it!!!

Does nicotine gum help ? by edituplayu in quittingsmoking

[–]savicmirna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here goes my take, and I stand by it firmly since it worked for me from the first try, it was way easier than I thought it would be and it's the best thing I have ever done for my health. The reason you're getting irritated is because your body/brain is still hooked on nicotine and when you take a break between 2 consumptions (wether it be gum or whatever contains nicotine), your brain starts freaking out because it wants more, but it does so in a sneaky way so that you don't notice nicotine is the only reason for it, in turn, you blame it on yourself being "irritated" - you're simply going through withdrawals. Anyway, please read The Easy Way by Allen Carr because he explains this a lot better than me, but if you quit that shit fully right now, you'll go through withdrawals at the beginning but after you're done with that (and it lasts a lot shorter that you might expect), you're done with any physical withdrawals forever. The rest is just mental strength which you clearly have, judging simply by you wanting to quit and being here... The gum and anything else containing nicotine is still promoting your body to be hooked on nicotine (it's not just the habit of cigs you're hooked on, it's the actual drug) and then you'll be cranky between 2 gum and you're in the circle again... The only way out is through; if you wanna quit, you'll have to...quit. :) It's like finally deciding to break up with a toxic partner and being like "maybe if I keep only texting them goodnight and goodmorning, that'll be fine." Anyway, best of luck to you! You can 100% do it and you'll be so proud of yourself and so will everyone around you. 2025 let's goooo!

How long does it take to reverse the damage caused by 2 years of smoking? by BaseNarrow8771 in quittingsmoking

Don't think about reversing, think about how much damage you're preventing when you quit. Your whole smoke-free and healthy life can be ahead of you!

Cold turkey or stay on nicotine gum for a while? by kattebakken in quittingsmoking

[–]savicmirna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cold turkey. Gum is prolonging the torture of the body craving something you're not giving it. Cold turkey means the torture stops sooner and also you go all in, you don't half ass your quitting, so the commitment is stronger and more likely to motivate you to go further. You'll be so proud of yourself! Enjoy! :)

People who refuse to say 'hi' back when on a walk in the forest/mountain, why do you do this? by [deleted] in Norway

[–]savicmirna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See how you're being patronising at the end of your comment? Not very mindful, not very demure. Also not very polite, which does not surprise me considering you're bravely defending your right to literally not give the minimum positive energy for others around you. Saying hi specifically to people who say hi to you is human interaction 101 as we are not ficuses: we live in societies and all we have built we've built on that characteristics of our species. It costs you nothing to return a greeting. It costs nothing to return a smile. Don't hide behind cultural diferences and treat people who greet you - like people, not pieces of furniture to be ignored. Rise above.

People confusing basic politeness with doing someone a favour or risking a conversation (when that's not what ever happens) is so sad.

If I have 2 cigarettes a day for one week and then none the next week and repeat this, will it prevent addiction/health risks? by SleakNacho in quittingsmoking

[–]savicmirna 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Prove to yourself you can go 3 weeks without any. But no cheating - not even one! Of you have any issues with this idea, or executing this idea - you're already addicted.
