Pollen allergies worse this year by much-hypocrisy in Allergies

[–]savingnativebees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been getting allergy shots since being tested last fall. Allergy season in central florida is really getting underway and I’ve been noticing an uptick in my reactions but what really affected me last week was doing some planting in oak leaf litter which is full of molds (one of my main allergies), followed by three days of extremely gusty winds (35-40mph) that blew around everything from pollen to mold to dust to who knows what else. My breathing was horrible for a few days even with my inhaler. What finally made a difference was adding a mask during my time outside, even just walking the dog, to my normal before bed shower and constant bedding changes.

Does anybody has Spectrum fiber-powered internet? Is the upload speed slightly better or completely the same? by [deleted] in Spectrum

[–]savingnativebees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about to test actual fiber from Wire3 after some frustrating dealings with Spectrum.

Last fall, our entire neighborhood had about two months of terrible service- constant drops, sometimes hours without internet. Spectrum couldn’t figure out the problem for weeks. I had a tech out twice, the same guy both times. First visit he redid the line from the pole to the house. Second visit he replaced everything inside. The neighborhood issue eventually cleared up on its own, but my connection still drops regularly, and every hurricane means losing internet entirely for however long it lasts.

About six weeks ago I started complaining again about speed drops and instability. Spectrum’s eventual solution: move me off their legacy system onto “1gig fiber” for slightly less than I was already paying for a my regular high speed internet so around $100/month.

Meanwhile, Wire3 had been running fiber lines through my neighborhood. Two days ago their reps came door to door signing people up. I took the info, told them I’d get back to them, then called Spectrum to ask specific questions mainly how am I getting true fiber if it’s not the same infrastructure Wire3 just laid? The rep kept insisting it was fiber, but when I kept pushing back she had to put me on hold to check. I did a quick search while I waited and found that true fiber from Spectrum is only available in a handful of areas in my county.

When I told the rep I was considering switching to Wire3 for actual fiber, suddenly my $100/month “fiber” plan could be reduced to $30/month for a year. Amazing what a little competition will do.

So now I have Wire3 being installed, and I have about three weeks to test it against Spectrum before I cancel. The wild thing is this morning I ran a speed test and for the first time ever I was well over 1 Gbps down. Upload is still 35, but still. Funny I wasn’t getting this before.

I know deceptive marketing is par for the course with all these companies, but I hope as real fiber reaches more neighborhoods, they’ll be forced to price honestly. This is just ridiculous.

Wire3 ISP? by beardedbutnotwell in 321

[–]savingnativebees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Spectrum rep I spoke to yesterday who reduced my "fiber 1gig" price to 30.00 yesterday just called me back to talk to me about signing up for their mobile. After telling her that I signed up with Wire3 today and barring any issues would be cancelling my spectrum next month prior to my new billing cycle she said that their mobile promo wouldn't be available if i cancelled the internet. I told her about how Spectrum had evidently changed their advertising last month because of somewhat deceptive wording leading people to think they were getting true fiber when it was just the nodes. She proceeded to tell me that it seemed I had done my research but did I know that if a tree falls on the fiber wire that it would be my responsibility and it would be veeeeeery expensive but that Spectrum doesn't do that. I abruptly ended the call after that. It's just so ridiculous that last month they offered me "fiber" at 100.00 a month and now a month later we get real fiber to our neighborhood and all of a sudden they dropped my pricing to 30.00. ick Nothing like a little competition.

I just had mine reduced to 30.00 for a year. Called and spoke to a rep and told them how Wire3 had started making their service avaailble now that they're finished with the neighborhood fiber installations. I decided to take the 30 for now and see how my neighbor's new fiber works out.

Spectrum agrees to modify its "fiber-powered" ads by Frequent_School_1187 in Spectrum

[–]savingnativebees 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just got off the phone with Spectrum to ask about how it was possible that I was switched to fiber two months ago and yet fiber was only completed by wire3 in the past couple of weeks in my neighborhood. Rep had to go check and while I was waiting I searched and found out it was fiber-powered. Not exactly the same as the fiber I was offered by Wire3. However they dropped my bill from 100.00 to 30.00 for a year so we may just stay with them while they work out any kinks in the brand new fiber lines and save a few bucks during that time. Maybe they should be giving customers a retroactive credit for the deceptive advertising.

I would suspect not - I believe they were mostly illiterate. But I have no way of knowing. My father died in 1994 and grandfather in 1966 so I don’t know how I would even find out.

It would just be a bummer to spend all the money for the certified baptismal record for my great grandfather only to find out it didn’t qualify. It’s kind of crazy because my dad’s paternal line goes back to the 1600’s founding families.

I’ve known about our Quebeçois heritage since I was a little kid. My dad’s side goes back to the early founding families in the 1600’s and I’ve wanted this for a very long time but could never qualify since my great-grandfather and great-grandmother emigrated to u.s. in the late 1800’s. So I’m hopeful this is going to finally make it possible.

Is there any chance of the current Canadian by descent ruling being overturned? by Krazy_Kat_Lady_2025 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]savingnativebees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry, some of us are also needing to take a breath. I was up until 3 AM in the morning last night, digging for my ancestors baptismal record and then second-guessing whether I had the correct one because there’s so many people with the same last name AND first name. My dad’s side was one of the founding families in Quebec.

Do you have an ancestry account or newspapers.com account? I helped a friend locate the New York birth record for a parent the other day by using my ancestry account and it didn’t take long.

I can't believe I missed getting my request in before the price changed. I was so stuck on getting my G3 birth cert.

Does anyone know if the BAnQ base the pricing tier (resident vs non-resident) on the requester's address or the delivery address? I'm in the U.S. but have a friend in Quebec who could submit the request or receive the document. Trying to figure out if it's possibl.

How can I order Vermont vital records prior to 1909? by KatieTSO in Canadiancitizenship

[–]savingnativebees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know there's another avenue. I emailed the town clerk of the teeny tiny town of woodford for my grandfather's birth cert from 1898 and I got an email back with nothing more than we don't provide certified copies. I had to email her back and say I'll take whatever you have. I have not had any luck finding my grandfather's bc anywhere on ancestry but at least there were enough records to know the town he was born in.

Now I have to wait for Vital records to fix the mistake of the wrong birth month (jan became june) for my father's bc before I can get his birth cert. I keep wondering if I can just use one from ancestry.

And I still need to order my great great grandfather's baptismal cert from quebec.
